timing gears on 202

my 202 has a a alloy timing gear apposed to a fibre, problem is it is noisy whirrs,
Is this normal ?Wondreing whether to change it to fibre for quietness.
have heard fibre whaks teeth off?
comments please?may be an additive may shut it up ?

There must be something wrong as alloy gears normally are litte louder but certainly not annoying.
Are you sure it doesn't have straight cut gears?
Also, I believe you can't use aftermarket alloy cam gears and the original Holden crank gear together as the angle of the teeth is different.
And, if my memory is correct, Holden alloy replacement cam gears (as fitted to starfire) are the same cut as the fibre gear.

Fibre would be a step backwards unless it is a stock weekender.

It had the gear replaced when i bought the motor 2nd hand, sik of the noise you may have a good point havent looked interesting in your comment re the fibre a no no obviously, many thanks.

there were 2 different cam gears for the holden sixes,i think it was the vk black motor which had much more pointy crank and cam gear teeth,if this gear is fitted to an earlier model motor it is very noisy,if you compare the early gear to the later one the difference is obvious,i have only seen this once,cheers Rodney
