Here's the new quarter skin tacked on.
And now it's fully welded and rust converted.
The shell is nearly totally rust free now. About time : )
I've also started another couple of projects. One of them is a single cab kombi ute that's getting the fully smooth treatment and a 253 V8 up its bum, and the other one is the purple one tonner that's been in the background of some of these pics. I'll post a thread on the tonner as the owner doesn't live near me and it's a good way for him to see the progress and for you guys to poke fun at me hahaha.
Here's the sexy kombi before I started on it.
Let the paint removal begin. What a pain. The paint just melts in the sanding disc, so takes a while to get off.
I'm making brand new rear quarters for both sides, mainly because of rust and to get rid of the vents and big door on the left hand side. I'll be using the original wheel arches though.
So much fun.
OK, that's enough kombi pics.

As for the 240 unimig, I love it. It's a great budget welder. I've made everything from thin sheetmetal panels to complete hot rod chassis with it. For just under $1300 it's hard to beat.

The shell itself is now totally rust free, and all the holes around the roof from the vinyl top are now gone, as are the rust holes around the front and rear screens. I also removed the speaker grill from the top of the dash.
The right hand door is all rust repaired and etch primed too. It was similar condition to the other door on the inside, but I didn't need to replace the whole outer skin, just the lower corners on the existing skin.
Monday I pulled the chassis off the car so I could get stuck into the flat firewall. It's nearly ready to get welded on. I like the look of it. Nice and smooth.
I've also started derusting the kombi ute so it seems I'm never going to get away from rust any time soon : )
Well there's a quick catch up. I'll hopefully get the firewall all welded up today, then I can repair the radiator support panel and get all the panels hung and gapped.

Bomber, the corolla is owned by a family friend and I just gave it a few touch ups and a good wax so it's not so hard for her to wash. Why do you ask? Are you looking for something awesome like that : ) hehehe

Na just curious......Sadly i can never own a FWD car unless its a MK 1 Golf GTI or an old school Mini....Its just impossible for me to come to grips with owning anything other than those two with the wrong wheels doing the driving.
Cheers.

The firewall is finished, all the rust is gone (woohoo) the chassis is fully welded and I've started on the bodywork.
Once the other side was welded I coated the lot in rust converter, just for something different : )
Radiator support had one of the mounts totally rusted off.
Here it is all primed up.
Flying camaro!!!! Sits a bit high : )
Getting some of the filler work done.

Hi shadowmaster. I do try to get the metal as good as I can before I reach for the filler, but this thing has had so much welding done it needs a little bit. If there is a few bits in one area that need filling then yes I'll smear over the whole area rather than doing bits and pieces. I do have an air longboard but I tend to do everything pretty much by hand. Especially with this car as there is virtually not a flat area on it, so I use a few different shaped long rubber blocks to sand the curves.
The longer the block the better : )
Thanks Mick. I certainly hope it's all gone now. If it isn't then it's very very good at hiding : )
