Well I've had to have a bit of time off so I thought I'd just chuck a few last pics in here to round out the thread.
The owner supplied some Hotchkis bonnet pins that he wanted fitted. I'm not a fan of bonnet pins but these ones seem to be very high quality.
Next job was to build steel caps for the doors. This is how it was originally.
Here's one of the new door tops sitting in place.
I've made it curl down at the front to meet up with the dash a bit better, although I will have to notch it out a bit so it doesn't hit the dash when the door closes.
I've also been told to fill in the step area where the pinch weld goes.
The door panels are now welded on. The door card can just go up inside this new door top.
Here's the scalloped section I made for the front to clear the dash.
Once the doors were done I was able to reprime the whole car for the last time.
I still love the profile of this bonnet.
The underside got a good clean as well and a few coats of underbody deadener.
I didn't bring the underbody goo onto the flat part of the firewall, but it does cover the lower part. I really like the new firewall.
And here it is waiting to get picked up.
The owner picked it up and took it away, but not before giving it a good wrap with plastic as this was early January when we were getting heaps of rain.
So that's it : )

When you weld on your repair panels, do you have them metalled, rust converted and etched like the outside before they go on and how do you seal the back side of the welded areas to stop the rust from coming back through. Do you sikaflex straight onto bare metal then etch over the top or the other way around? Once the cars are finished do you pump them full of some sort of rust preventative to make your repairs last for another lifetime?
$50 an hour is bloody cheap, when i worked at a local computer shop we were charging $140 an hour plus call out plus km's etc etc and were in a small town . When i do jobs on the side i charge $50 an hour to sit on my ass . The only tools i need is the internet *shrug*. Its funny how these things work.
My bead roller is half way to california now only 2 days left, then onto a boat! So fancy, die's cost a small fortune tho . Did your machine come with a bundle of die's?

i was also wondering what do you cut the sections of panel out with? just a grinder or do you use a reciprocating saw or something similar?
i was also interested in how i would be able to fold up some window frame corners and similar repair pieces without using a shrinker/stretcher? i am going to make a panbrake which should be fine for bending straight lips, and it will get me out of trouble. but what i am asking is there another way i can bend the pieces of plate to match the corners radius once they have a lip folded on them? i don't really want to get a shrinker/stretcher just to make 2 or 3 repair pieces.
thanks and sorry for all the questions, i just want to learn from someone who really knows what they are doing.
cheers

If you're only doing a couple of pieces though, it might just be easier to make the sections from multiple pieces and weld them together before welding it into the car? Just a thought. If there's anything you think I might be able to help you with just ask. I don't know a lot though, as I'm a dirtbag : )
Well I thought I'd add a bit of an update on this car, as the owner has been getting some lovely bits and pieces for it.
Nice big 330mm brakes, tubular arms and coil over shocks.
Semi bolt in 4 link.
The wheels are Rushforth Rated X. I like them a lot on this!
Then there's the really fun bit. Alloy donovan small block, brodix heads, D1SC blower, Cola crank, H beams etc backed by a tremec 5 speed. Lovely : )
It's also got a 9 inch and rack and pinion steering converison.
It's going to be an amazing car!

Thanks for answering my questions, there arn't many people left with the knowledge and knowhow you have. Cheers mate, sorry for all the questions.
Thanks dirtbag, you have been very helpful mate. I'll just take my time getting those pieces right, I have no deadline and just want it all to come up perfect the first time. Saying that I think that means I will have many more questions through the buildup haha.
