Good to see some progress Joshie.

Any luck with the door/quarter alignment?

Hopefully it'll be an easy fix.

Mate the car looks awesome.

It looks absolutely fantastic after a rub down with 40 grade sandpaper.

Cant wait to see the sheen on the duco after a lick of paint, a couple of good clearcoats, and a buff to let her randiance shine.

hahaah i was thinking of going for the primer and bog look all over

just had a play with the door before, my uncles coming over on the weekend to paint the inner stuff,

yeah all the bog dust on the floor, is from the previous job sanded it all back and chased it for ages and ages and ages nearly half a day of sanding,

now instead of the 5kgs it had in the rear quarter it now has frOck all from what we uncovered it looks to have been side swiped somewere along the line and had a really bad repair lots of what seemed like black plastic in there?

so much dodgy had been done on this over the last 35 years of its life... never buy an old farm car sheesh worst mistake ever

anyway back to the door i pulled the front up which made the door come into line alot more better the line isnt perfect because the quarter isn't perfectly straight but it is alot more better alignment,

i can't wait to get this thing back to one colour and forget about all the body work i have done on this

When you finish, and it's gone well, I've got a bolt-in 6-point polished aluminium roll cage with all brackets and bolts if you want to save the time.

Flexible Drive Agencies in Welshpool make/modify accelerator and speedo cables on site. Handbrake cables are sent east.

lol i had a cable go on me yrs ago in my old LX coming home from Golbourn one night. Time for a Magyver, pulled the speaker wires from one of the rear speakers untill i got to the front door, busted the wire and hooked it up to the carby and fed it under the bonnet and in through the drivers door window and then had a hand throttle all the way home to Shellharbour.

Maybe just try that Josh, just keep a rool of the stuff in the glove box :spoton:

I run one on the racecar too... They claim the issue wwith using them relates to the possibility they could catch and jam up, but my brakea on my bike have never jammed up due to the cable catching and some of them have been rusty and trashed.

Some people might disagree, but works for me :)

I often see these "you must buy new and buy the best and most expensive or you will die in a horrible accident" comments on another forum but not very often here, its a bit sad to hear it coming from real hobbiests/enthusiasts. This is a simple job that can be done right and safely with parts from the junk pile, or wrong and dangerously with hundreds of dollars of new parts.

There's nothing wrong with suitable bike brake cables, they have to withstand a lot more force when used for brakes and they are nice and flexible and smooth - I used a tandem bike cable for my hidden bonnet release because nothing else is long enough, and it is well and truly up to the task. However the cable itself is only half the story, you need the appropriate sheath and ends (routed correctly) too, along with suitable return spring(s) at the correct angles and positions. None of it is rocket science but care is required.

I made all my own alloy brackets and use cable ends that we run on linkages in go karts, nothing dodgy.

As for the clown comment.... Well i spent about $20 and its been in use for 8 years... Some might say noy having the brains to save yourself money makes you the clown?
