Would someone be kind enough to give me dimensions of an A9X style bonnet scoop? I want to make a steel one but I'm too tight to buy a fibreglass one to copy. Plus, I won't need the fibreglass one when I'm done. Thanx chaps :)

It's about yay long, and isn't as wide as it is long.

Does that help? hahaha

Sorry mate, my brothers one is still at the painters. I say just go off your eye. Torana ones aren't high enough anyway, so if it's the same basic profile it will look fine. I'd make it a couple of inches higher, so you can fit a tunnel ram under it : )

"not as wide as it is long", huh? Yeah, well I spoze I could do that........ Ive had this LX bonnet under my house for a few years and for some reason I thought it didn't have a hole cut into it for the air cleaner. So my plan was to cut the bonnet and pump it up so it looks like a moulded scoop. But because it has the hole in it, that idea is out the window. I still have the outline on that bonnet though from where a scoop used to be. So I could guess the size, but it's a lot of work if I'm wrong.

Maybe cutting the bulge from my UC bonnet and pumping it up would look cool. It would have tapered sides so it would be a smooth look. But i'll still need the hole at the back because scoops for 'decoration' don't make much sense to me. I'm sure you feel the same way, dirtbag. Oh wait, no you put a pretend one on your bro's car didn't you! :)

Hahaha Kush, nice little dig there about the scoop : ) No sleepovers for you :badabing: hahaha

Anyway, I still think you should just make one from scratch, not with a UC bit, but make it a bit bigger than normal.

Here's the one on my old LH (avatar car). I had a cain tunnel ram with twin 600s under the scoop. I just had to make the scoop 2 inches higher, and while I was at it Imade it 2 inches longer. Not too noticeable until it's next to a stock one.

I'd say go with the non functional scoop. Real scoops are for pussies hahahah : )

I thought you'd like the dig, Tim :) that scoop looks good and still has the original look to it. But my plan is not tunnel rams and so forth. Im going for conservative outside, 480+ hp 383 carby fed monster inside. I don't want people (cops) thinking I'm a hoon. Basically I want smoothed over flairs, smooth bonnet scoop, shaved handles, smooth minimalist droptank etc. And I think that if I can get the balance right, it will still be undeniably a torana. I don't want to lose the cars essence or image. I hope that I can get what's in my head into the car, but I guess that's the fun, finding out your limits, patience and resilliance. But I reckon you know what I'm talkin about :)

I'm sure you'll get the car to look like it does in your head. Knowing how you want it to look is half the battle already won : )

I'd love to build a hatch. I even have the details in my head, but they're getting too dear for my little budget.

Anyone want to part with a hatch really really cheap??? : )

Funny you mentioned a cheap hatch. One was parked outside a servo about 2 months ago with a for sale sign. So I pulled up and found the guy selling it. $10000. It was an LX sunbird that looked like it had been sitting in grandmas carport for 30yrs. It was that horrible baby blue colour and there was a small tear in the drivers seat. Other than that it was brand new. I went back the next day with my money but it was too late, it was gone :( I had a similar disappointment with an immaculate XB coupe but I won't get into that because it makes me depressed.

thanks, but I'm wanting a scoop made of steel so I can weld it on. I don't want bolts because I want it to be smooth. I asked about fibreglassing to metal in another thread and the general consensus was that fibreglassing to the panels would cause cracks from movement and expansion. I've made two cardboard mock-ups of the scoop to use as templates and they were both a big FAIL. So I think I'll buy more cardboard and keep going till I get it right. :)
are camaro scoops glassed onto the bonnet?
