Depending on which LH and which LX but just roughly; Spring rates, camber, sway bar, wheels, rack mount and ratio, stub axles, steering arms, discs and callipers, wheels, tyres, upper control arms, lower control arms and even the cross member it's self.
Pretty much the only common thing shared between all 8 or so different models are the rubbers, ball joints and tie rods.

Probably better off switching now and rebuilding the LX front end and drop it in when your ready.

If you are planning on rebuilding the front end then there is little difference between the LH and LX. The main difference is the position of the UCA mount bolts and the thickness of the steel used for the UCA and LCA.

I have summarised the differences between LH, LX, UC and A9X on this page. The information is from this forum spread over dozens of threads.

And the sway bar mounts and possible the engine mounts, we have no idea what two x members you have so better off using the original one to save headaches later.

The UC rack is 9940277. There is contradictory information as to what the ratio of the racks are. I was originally given a ratio of 25:1 for the UC rack however this does not appear to be correct. My UC rack is around 3.5 turns lock to lock which calculates out to around 20.4:1. I have updated the page to make it clear which rack is which.

I am still not sure what the LX or A9X rack ratios are. If someone can measure the travel on an LX and A9X rack for one turn then we should be able to calculate the ratios.

I've read through this thread & ls2lxhatch's link page, however i do have a question i hope someone can answer for me. I have a 1974 LH & a 1977 LX i wish to swap the steering racks over. I know they have different steering arms between each model but will this affect the swap in any way? Oh yeah, i know RTS came out on later LXs but i'm not sure if my LX is an RTS model. It's compliance date is 6/1977. Any advice, opinions would be welcomed & appreciated.

What makes you think they are different?
AFIK they used the same arms, only L34, A9X and UC used different arms.

The LH parts manual lists a different part number for the steering arms although they may actually be the same.

UC steering arm Left 9947249(GM7249) Right 9947248(GM7248)
LX steering arm Left 9928329(GM8329) Right 9928328(GM8328)
LH steering arm Left 9928327 Right 9928326
L34 steering arm Left 9935249 Right 9925250

To be honest, i thought only LX with RTS & UC were different, i assumed LH & pre-RTS LX were identical. I read ls2lxhatch's link page & as he's stated from his research, they have different part numbers so i figured there might be a difference/variation between LH & LX other than the ratio. I also know the racks are usually date coded. I'm only bothered to know as i'm selling my LX cheap to suit wreck or restore but it has a recently recoed rack that i'd like to fit to my LH if possible as it would save me the expense of reconditioning it's original rack.

All the racks locate in the same position, only the ratios and mounting bushes themselves vary, so a rack will technically fit any other model.

I have also read that you can not purchase replacement bushes for the LH rack. They are available for the LX/UC racks.

See this thread.

We have gone from talking mounting bushes to the internal rack shaft bush....

LH/LX use rubber rack mounts, UC use a solid bush mount.

I was pointing out to LH SLR 5000 that it may be difficult to rebuild the LH rack so he would be better off fitting the reconditioned LX rack and selling the LH rack with the LX wreck. The thread I linked to is about rebuilding an LH rack.

I also know the racks are usually date coded. I'm only bothered to know as i'm selling my LX cheap to suit wreck or restore but it has a recently recoed rack that i'd like to fit to my LH if possible as it would save me the expense of reconditioning it's original rack.
