Anger continues
27th July 2010

LAST week, The Reporter broke the news about Heritage Park's Shane Arnold, who was threatened with a fine of up to $5000 by Logan City Council just for working on his own car, on his own property.
We had an overwhelming response from Logan residents about the issue, including from Daisy Hill resident Daniel (last name withheld), who similarly received a visit from council officers.
Last year the officers visited his house following a complaint from one of his neighbours, and investigated whether he was running a business from his house.
When this claim proved false, the Office of Fair Trading were also contacted to investigate whether Daniel was also running a caryard, because a number of his vehicles still had auction numbers on the windows.
"It's the Australian thing to do," Daniel said about working on cars.
"I understand you can't be out there spray painting but I find it ridiculous you can own a car, but you can't work on the thing."
Daniel said the Logan City Council officers had told him they had to investigate complaints, but council didn't go searching for this sort of thing.
The Reporter again contacted council and was told council responded to complaints lodged by complainants and that repairs on vehicles could only be day to day maintenance and the vehicle must be owned by the owner of premises.
Some letters to the paper -

I like the last one best.
My local councillor - a man for the people - has said to call him straight away if they ever try and go us.

But if you try and do that to any part of a car it is illegal

If I was ever 'advised' by the council to cease and desist working on my car at home then I would start beating the crap out of a flat piece of steel and drilling lots of holes in it etc etc etc just to piss off the neighbour that dobbed me in, and there would be nothing they could about it hehehehe

All is okay........
.
.
.
But it's still illegal.
BTW anyone in the Gold Coast area - it's illegal for you too according to this.......
What a bunch of morons - Spray painting is already nationally regulated. Spend my money on something worthwhile. Bet if I wanted to use the local TAFE facilities they'd tell me to get bguck'd!!

Lots of restos and hotrods out that way, and I fear it may be the same.
I believe, but not sure, that Ipswich is free of this insidious evil.......
