Hi Mate, looks great well done, & my advise would be to definately use the 2 pack all the way. I could go on all day of the advantages, but i will say you have to do whole panels with it just like you've allready masked so you shouldn't have any dramas. & heaps of paints give quite flat finishes nowadays ie ( flat orange peel i mean ) not to mention the hi end newer spray guns iwata ect. as for the run in the bay you can just rub down that small area & cut & polish it after 14 days preferably to let all the solvents escape & will help your finish to last longer. I've seen a eh daily driver (rain hail or shine ) in 2 pack last for 18 years before needing a resto including living near the coast & pretty much the only reason the acrylic is flat @ the show room is because they used to buff the living shit out of it with really coarse acrylic cutters & a lambswool pad no wonder the paint didn't last. & i've never seen a company not offer a flatening base for there paint. ie it might not be allready made up, but a proper paint sales shop ( preferably run by a qualified spray painter ) can make these up for you. I would suggest getting the flatening base mixed @ your favoured gloss level in your paint so as it is ready to stir & paint after mixing all ingredients of course prior to spraying. All the best, Gary.

Mine's a 9/76 SL/R L32, it was pre RTS.

It has body coloured engine bay and front apron, it also doesn't have the black Torana 'smile' painted on.

I will double check, but mine is 8/1976 I think. I researched a lot of old photos and concluded that the apron was black, with colour overspray in places. I decided to stick with black, less the overspray. Happy to be proven wrong about that of course.

Actually, you might be right, just had a look at a photo of mine, albeit faded, it does look black.  The smile isn't part of that apron section.

Looks like Sunday could be the day. Spent today getting the area ready. Hosed down all the walls and floor. Tomorrow I am lining every surface with plastic sheeting. Got a mates industrial grade compressor coming, because you can't paint a car with a small hardware job! Paint is here... bought it this week. 2K all the way!

Car looks like this now....

Etch primed, yea... lol.

Agree about the damn rain. Will have the heaters cranking for an hour at least before I spray. Water trap? Yep... got a good one at the compressor, and another at the gun. I painted my concours Mini with the same compressor and gun, so it's not a new setup to me.

My biggest concern is putting a run in it. No worries other than that! :D

Nice one. Get some scrap steel to have a practice on beforehand for a little bit. Just to get into the feel of it!!!

Well, Brad... it's Sunday, and I have an UPDATE.

1 word.... COLOUR!

Attached File  IMG_20130630_152957.jpg   133.39K   3 downloads

Attached File  IMG_20130630_152932.jpg   114.23K   2 downloads

Pics don't do it justice. It's the best 2K spray job I have ever done. No runs. 1 small sag in an inconspicuous place. 1 small bit of fluff or something that dropped in on my party.

It was really hard work, but I nailed it. Totally satisfied, but thinking... NEVER AGAIN! That 2K is nasty, smelly stuff. It's booth or bust from here on! :D

YES! Thats excellent!!!!! Nice one Anton. Its all downhill from here mate! Yes I bet the fumes killed ya! With the garage all plastic'd up and no means of extraction! Was the same situation when I did my engine/engine bay. I did set up my big fan to try and suck it all out, ended up firstly with red blades and then finally black blades! hahahahaha

Cheers guys :) Appreciate the feedback.

I think while everything is masked up still, I will do the blackouts along the sills and rear valance. Maybe tomorrow, while the paint fumes are still smelling out the whole house :D

Anyone got pics of how far up the blackouts come on the rear quarters and valance? I haven't researched that yet.
