Wasn't sure about the colour when I bought the car, but it was never going to be anything other than original. Now that I see it painted, and the candy wrapper gloss of 2K probably helps, I can't imagine owning one in any other colour. Everyone who steps into the garage always starts with... "wow!" Can't wait to get it out on the road for more of that ;)

Cheers for the comments guys. It's definitely coming together now.

Time flies when I'm having fun... or building cars, as is the case here!

Progress a-plenty on the Papaya. Wow... where to begin....

Boot lid got the paint strip treatment...

Attached File  pic_06.jpg   89.54K   2 downloads

And then the 2K etch and prime...

Attached File  pic_07.jpg   108.91K   1 downloads

And some rich 2K colour... fitted to the car...

Attached File  pic_11.jpg   68.66K   1 downloads

The bonnet got the same strip... Half and half looks nice :)

Attached File  pic_02.jpg   74.16K   3 downloads

Fully stripped....

Attached File  pic_03.jpg   62.76K   1 downloads

Then the prime...

Attached File  pic_08.jpg   51.07K   1 downloads

And painted, then fitted to the car...

... and still going, with the front doors now...

Stripped...

Attached File  pic_01.jpg   149.21K   1 downloads

Primed... although I can't find the pics... but believe me, they got the treatment!

After being sprayed... They look mint on the inside...

Attached File  pic_12.jpg   64.4K   2 downloads

And of course, the outside too!

Attached File  pic_13.jpg   60.62K   1 downloads

And in daylight, for good measure...

Attached File  pic_14.jpg   90.46K   1 downloads

Then completed with black-outs.

Attached File  pic_15.jpg   92.3K   1 downloads

And of course, fitted, both sides...

Attached File  pic_17.jpg   100.22K   1 downloadsAttached File  pic_18.jpg   109.09K   1 downloads

Then, somewhere in there, probably out of sequence, was the front end assembly and installation...

Attached File  pic_04.jpg   97.53K   2 downloads

Attached File  pic_05.jpg   90.59K   4 downloads

Attached File  pic_16.jpg   113.86K   3 downloads

And it almost resembles a car again!

Very soon, like... tomorrow, the front guards and apron will be bolted up, and the Project Papaya is (kinda) whole again. No more painting, no more mess, smell, orange fingernails, etc. Into the BEST phase of the resto now... the BUILD! My favourite time of a quality resto. Lots of exciting pics to come!

Cheers guys. I appreciate the encouragement because it's been a massive hard slog for me, as I have done every single thing myself thus far, with no help from anyone.

Up to this stage now, as of today...

Out of money now... new job is paying 1/3 of what I was on a yea ago.... yep... times are tough. I dare say, progress will slow now, but it's nice to get this far and park it.

[with my shitty cheap ass beer] ... Cheers!

Hahahaha. Nice one!!!!

I reckon you will still be able to find plenty of small jobs to knock over that cost no $$$, just time. But unfortunately have to be done.....

It's going to be a good day once you take it for a lappy. Have you got a donk sorted yet?

ooohhh I like that LIKE button!!! hi5!

Brad, yes mate... got a motor that by casting date and engine number prefix, is PERFECT. Apparently it's a good runner, and even looks good enough to drop straight in, but I'm going to strip it and do the rebuild thing. I might buy a roof lining and have a trimmer fit that, then put my glass in and all rubbers ets, as I have the full rubber kit sitting there ready to go. That won't break the bank, but WILL keep me busy. Then the motor gets the treatment. I have a fully reco M21 box already, so could have this car running soon, in theory :D

I was a bit daunted by the roof lining, but i got mine in no worries, came up a treat!!! Took my time, think it was about a week to get it in and be happy with it. Was supplied by boomfunk. I just bought a heap of cheap pinch weld and cut it into 2 inch long bits that helped hold it all in place whilst glue was drying etc around the tops of the door/window frames. Yeah once thats in, glass in, locking strips in, get the doors/window mechs back in and it will look like a car in no time at all!!!!!!!!!

I fitted my Mini one myself on my resto prior to this car, and it was sh!t. Got my trimmer out to fix it. What he finished up with was way better than my attempt. My lesson learnt was to just get a trimmer out to do it in the first place, so yea, even though I want to save the money, I know I can't do this job.

Great work Anton. I am also doing up my own papaya project only in a 76 SS version. I had the paint work done by someone else and now it's back in the garage ready to be put back together. I was looking for some motivation to get on with the job and re-reading your posts has done the trick. I might even post a few pics myself when I download photobucket and work out how to use it.

That's the spirit Simon! I have gained motivation from others on here. That's how we roll! Look forward to seeing your Papaya progress :)
