I'm going to give the whole car a buff tomorrow, then maybe add the SL/R side stripes on the weekend. I've got a polisher sorted for the stainless door moulds and a stack of new clips to fit them. I'm excited to get it to that stage, plus glass, which is really not far off.

Getting there with the buff... Had to denib the bonnet and then work through grades of paper, right up to 3000. I find that if I don't, I can see tiny scratches in the buffed finish, and that always bugs me.

Little bit more to go, but you get the idea of the overall look now from this pic. I'm thinking I will leave the stock rims like that. I have a set of mint SL/R hubcaps, but I have never been into hubcaps on any car. I like the mean look of whitewalls on black stockies ;)

When I have finished buffing, I'll do a clear before and after of the stripes with the car out on the driveway. That's a week away I think.

Gday Anton,

Thats a great build thread and cant wait to see the rest of it come together.

Could you let me know the guys you send all your stuff to for the plating as Im doing a UC hatch (yep A UC ).

I hear you when you say its a slow process but i just keep slogging away with the bodywork until I get it as good as I can.Had the rear beaver replaced by a mate and what a bitch trying to fill and smooth all the welds and get the curves right , been doing that for about a month.AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHH.

stay keen

I have been using http://www.eliteplating.com.au/ for about 8 years now. If you clean up your parts well, the finish is excellent. They have a guy there dedicated to automotive parts. I have his card somewhere. Will dig it out if you want.

Paint and a final buff are all done, so on go the stripes. Now, these may not be to everyone's liking, but I am totally digging that original, 70's, retro, cool look, and I can't think of anything more perfect than this!

I had a pro fit some stripes to my last resto, and I watched him closely when he did it. So when it came time for me to do these today... no problems at all. Really happy with the look, and the job I did. Not bad at all I say... for someone who doesn't work in the trade ;)

So what's next? I'm not sure myself... I will polish up the stainless steel trims and fit those... maybe door glass too. I have the trim that can be fitted, but I would rather do the engine now and get it running... so yea, that's where I will go now. Stay tuned I guess :)

Final hand polish done out in the full daylight. That just about wraps up the paint & panel. Just got to paint the mirror satin black and I'm onto mechanical. Can't believe it has taken what, 3 years to complete all that? Still, I had absolutely no help. Did the lot myself, with some good advice from knowledgeable people here of course.

Nice photo while I had it fully out of the garage. Gotta love that fresh 2K gloss! :)
