Put a little lip spoiler on- the removable wagon top!

Blu-tac some bolt heads around the factory flares just to keep people guessing...

hahahaha I love the flare bolt idea : )

Well, I think I'm going to let the cost of the flares make the decision for me. I've had a long hard think and I've come to the conclusion that flaring the car is doing a LOT less damage (for want of a better word) than mini tubbing. Plus, in Qld anyway, mini tubbing is illegal. If I cut the guards for flares and keep the bits I cut off, then it's really easy to convert it back to unflares. Tubs on the other hand are a totally different story. In case you didn't notice, yes, I am trying to talk myself out of mini tubbing the car, even though it would look awesome : )

So, if flares are too dear it gets a tub job. Simple : )

Tim, Ando on here (John) is taking his old flare kit off his hatch and replacing it with a Wilsons kit so you may be able to pick up his old kit at a good price

The ute looks nice mate, But i still think that torana ute that was half Hq and half lx in streetmachine from tassie a few years back is the best one ive seen, Come on dirtbag time for an LS6

The Torana Ute is still in Hobart,i think the Guy that Built it still owns it

Dont flare it. P76 and shorter diff ftw. Car looks so cool unflaired.

Cheers.

Another vote for unflared, tubbed, matt black and lots of chrome.

It has already been highly modified from standard so cutting it up a bit more won't make any difference

If you feel the need to bolt something onto it you could rice it up by bolting a couple of verticle smoke stacks behind the cab ie. mini truck style.

I'm still going to see how much flares are. As for gloss black, I think not. I know it looks amazing but my workshop and eventually my new house are on a dirt road so black would be a nightmare.
As much as I'd love to mini tub it id be really annoyed if I got defected. Cops around here seem to know a bit about cars unfortunately:-(

And what, you dont think you could tubb it without anyone noticing???

Cut the wheel well out, including shocky mount etc. Move it in a few inches, weld back in, fill in the gaps, adjust diff mounting points to suit.

May also need to move the LCA foward mounting points for clearance.

I recon i could do that in a fassion no one would pick it, surely you can oh great tim.

Wala.

Yeah, that thing looked really good side on, but the HQ swage in the rear guards didn't line up with anything on the torana in my opinion. But hey, it's unigue with a V8 and manual, so how can you go wrong? : )
Yes Bomber, I know how to do mini tubs, but the police around here know a 10 inch wheel with 265 or 295 tyre wont fit on a torana without flares. It's a big risk to make that mod as it may render the car unregisterable and I'm not sure I want to take that risk. Whereas welding the wheelarches back into a flared torana is a day job, should I need to.

The ass end of my LH nearly tucking rims with 13" rims isnt legal either but i seem to get away with it......

And thats noticeable before they pull me up and pop the bonnet.

If your going to tubb it it needs to be real low in the ass, with your 15's it should tuck rim. If your not willing to lower the rear that much then i will allow you to flair it :tease:

Cheers.

hahaha. If you tucked rim with 13s around here you'd disappear into a pothole : )

Thanks for giving me your blessing : )

It's spelt flare btw hahaha

265 fit under the guards of an un tubed car don't they I know 245 do easily and 245 50 on a 14 in rim look pretty good un- flared and on a low torana ute I think would look pretty hot

I had 245 under the back of my LJ, they fit very comfortably, surely 265 would fit under a LH/LX.

Problem with the 245's under the LJ is i couldent get the rear low enough to be acceptable.

Cheers.

Nice in theory, but I have 15 inch wheels, and you can't get 245 50 15s any more.

I don't think a 265 would fit without rubbing, and I hate it when tyres rub : (

Bomber what you say is so true. If the car has to sit high and gay looking to fit the wheels and tyres then they're the wrong wheels and tyres. I have about a 2 inch gap between the top of the rim and the guard lip, so the tyre is fairly well stuffed in there. I will NOT be raising this car for any reason : )

Yep, i could show some picks of how my LJ used to sit to prove Tims point of high and gay in the rear but im not sure i should :tease:

I was 17 at the time and didnt know any better....Nough said.

Cheers.

Your being irrational Tim! this talk of flares is madness..i'll call Russel Ingal and get his car abuse squad onto you! :spit: flares arn't going to be any more legal then if you stetched the rear tubs a little anyway and doing it that way would be heaps less noticeable and give the car a much cleaner look! STRETCHED TUBS AND CONVO'S you know it makes sense! :tease:

This is what people think of when they imagine that ute without flairs sitting real low over convo's.

Don't know what modifying laws are applicable or not but could you get it engineered as a hotrod?

Could maybe get it classed as a 'one off' vehicle and do what you like with the rear end?

Mmmm, 335's...
