DIRTBAG FINALLY HAS A TORANA.....SORT OF?

Anyway, flares are legal as they're a factory option, and even if they're filled with huge wheels the police generally leave you alone. Plus it saves me a crap load of work moving suspension points and making a new diff. I just don't have the time.
A hotrod has to be pre 1948 and have a full chassis, not monocoque like a torana. Building it as an ICV (individually constructed vehicle) would be waaaay too much work.
I'll wait until the new rear wheels show up and have a look then to make up my mind, but I'm thinking with the time constraints the flares will get the win.

3.5 inch backspace means plenty of dish. Lovely!

tim just a quick question with your torry being a ute ........who would know what size tub it ran
because the last time i checked they didnt make a lx ute and as yours is a custom how would they it wasnt done at the conversion time
When this ute was built it had to requalify for 6 different ADRs before it could be registered. I guess I could try and say the tubs are normal, but it is a BIG risk as they will obviously be stretched purely by the size of wheel fitted.

I have the front spoiler that was meant to go on my brothers car before I made the steel one so I'm going to use that and hope they all fit together properly.
Yesterday I got my rear wheels back with the new tyres fitted, thanks to L32M20 for doing that : )
I was thinking about using the 4.5 inch convos on the front just for giggles but I think the 7 inch ones look better next to the 10s.
Then the unthinkable happened!! I was working in the shed, making a large capacity sump for a 1928 roadster pick up, when I injured myself in a way that sickens me to the stomach just thinking about it.
I chipped a nail !!!!!
Sorry for the blood and guts photo. It's pretty gross. hahahaha.
I couldn't help myself there, and besides, you guys already know I'm an idiot : )
Anyway, after getting back from brissie this arvo I thought I'd finally have a play on the ute.
I was going to replace the nosecone and put the front bumper back in the normal position but then I thought I'd leave it for now. Just because.
First job was mounting the front spoiler.
I mounted it a little bit lower than it should be, just so it works better with the lowered front bumper.
Then I could stick the front flare on. These flares are the best ones I've had to deal with. They only need a very small modification to fit how I want them to.
I cut a wedge out of the front of the flare to give the tyre clearance when steering. I just used some metal mend to hold it in place until I fibreglass it from the inside. I'll get all the flares fitted and 'glass them all at the same time.
Next up was to sort out the rear flare.
Note the high tech temporary flare mount. I go all out : )
You can also see how much I cut out of the front guard in this pic.
Hmmm....nearly fits : )
Choppie choppie : )
It looks pretty cool with the wheels on. When I make the diff I'll make it 2 inches narrower each side so the flare doesn't just sit on the tyre.
This shows how far the tyre sticks out.
Now it just wouldn't be me if I didn't put some nutserts in there to hold the flares on : )
I only have to trim a bit out of the back of the rear flare. I hope the flares for the other side are as good as these.
The only problem that annoys me is most of the bolts holes are broken on the rear flares. I'll have to fix this when I glass the modifications.
Well that's all I got done this arvo but it's a start at least.

i wasnt a support of the flares when you first threw the idea out there. but after seeing these few pics its going to look tough! what are you going to do with the 4.5'' convos? what stud pattern are they?
oh and how you get all that done in a day is beyond me. does your watch only have 12 numbers on it??
Not sure what I'll do with the 4.5 inch convos. I stuck them on ebay but they didn't sell. I think they;d look good on the wall of the shed anyway : )
Oh, they're multifit, chev/HQ and falcon stud patterns.
I'd like to say I did this in a day, but I didn't get to the shed until 12.30pm and left again at 3.30pm, so it was more like 3 hours : ) I need a life......

Bobtail spoiler on the tailgate?

They looked OK before I took them off & before a few bolt mount pieces fell to the floor. I'm glad the front ones fitted well though.
You don't muck around! Great work!

After fully welding the right rear guard I put a bit of metal mend on it to make sure it was fully sealed. Because it's a ute now water can get inside the wheel arch much easier, well when the tonneau is off anyway.
With the guard now cut and welded I was able to stick a back wheel on and lower the car back down to see if there was enough room for the wheels. Unfortunately I'm going to have to raise the car a bit : (
It sticks out a tad too : )
Next job was to fit the flares to the other side.
After finding where I wanted the front flare to sit I drilled the holes and marked out where i was going to chop it.
I had to alter the front of this flare too, but other than that it's good.
With the front of the flare changed there is now plenty of room for the tyre.
Of course for the rear flare I went with nutserts again : )
I used the small flange nutserts on this car. I hadn't used them before but they seem to be good. They sit flush too.
I'm quite happy with how the flare sits. Considering it's only my car so I don't have too long to spend on it so it's getting hurried a bit.
With the flare sorted it was time to chop the guard.
Here's some of the welding done.
I love the speedway look of torries with the flares taken off : )
Next fun job was fibreglassing all the flares.
One of the rear flares needed the bolt holes reglassed, but other than that it was all pretty basic.
I don't have a pic of it finished, but I've finished all the welding on the steel scoop too.
That's it for another day.
