Stinga, I'm not convinced the scoop will look any good, as I didn't really spend enough time making it in the first place. It was just out of curiosity to see if it could be done easily. If I do another one I'll do it differently, but I guess I have to finish this one to see if I need to do another one or not. I hope not. I'm too darn lazy : )

There were a few little areas on the body that needed a little bit of fixing. I don't have the time to do this perfectly, and I'm not interested in it sitting around half done so it's getting a rush job just so I can drive it again.
I grabbed another pair of 10 inch convos today off a good friend of mine, as they have a fair bit more backspace than mine. I was hoping they would have enough backspace to be able to fit them onto the existing diff. If I raise the car they should fit. It means I can get the car back on the road while I'm making the new narrowed diff. Plus these wheels have 295s on them so look pretty good to me : )
My original wheel is on the left. You can see the new ones aren't as deep, but they still look awesome.
They don't stick out anywhere near as far as the old ones.
They will leave a nice big footprint too : )
Once all the little repairs and the bonnet were done I gave them a few coats of primer.
I don't really like the bonnet. I'll see how it looks on the car, but I think I'll source a 4 inch camaro scoop and bolt it onto a stock bonnet instead. I like the fact that it's got the swage right up and over the scoop, where the torana scoops have none. But it doesn't really float my boat.
One of the rear flares had the bolt holes broken out, so I fibreglassed the inside of each hole and redrilled the hole. I then used some industrial glue to glue some stainless washers onto the outside of the hole. Not sure how it will work but it's worth a shot. Now there is some fibreglass on the inside, I can fill the gap in the edge of the bolt hole from the outside.
Well that's it for another day. Most of the outside of the car is rubbed down, but I still have to do the tray and door jams before I can paint it. I'll do a bit more on the weekend and see how much more I can get done. I can't afford to be spending any more time on this thing, so will have to go back to proper jobs next week.

lookin good mate, you obviously have diiferent idea of a rough rush job to me!
my version is a tin of bog and some satin black chassis paint!
Funny you say that. That's pretty much exactly what I was thinking. Only I'm using epoxy primer/sealer.
First fun job was getting everything sanded down smooth enough to put the temporary topcoat on.
I do like the side profile of the steel scoop.
First things I painted were the inner tray sides, to make sure I was happy with how flat the colour is. I want it dead flat, not semi gloss.
On a sad note, I had to raise the rear of the car. It was devastating : ( But the wheels just wouldn't fit otherwise.
Sanding the tray down was a LOT of fun!!!!
I cheated a bit here. When the car was still on the hoist I painted all the lower edges and under the sills. Much easier. I also painted the door jams, then masked the outside.
Tada!! Dirty old flat black : ) This is a temporary paint job, but I do like it.
These two bits of marine ply are the lift out panels of the tray floor.
The tailgate and cowl got a coat inside and out. Also in the background are the tail lights now wearing some black too.
Here's one of the jams with the door rubber and trim refitted. I hate prepping door jams.
Looks a bit more normal with the masking removed. The windows need a good clean though.
I did nothing to the engine bay. It's already a dark grey so sort of matches anyway.
I still have the flares to finish and paint, then I can drive it around some more. I'll get cracking on the new diff too when time allows.
One day in the future Bomber will hopefully give the car a proper paint job, once I've decided on a colour that is.

Yeah I used sanding sponges. It's still a sucky job though. Especially when the doors are still on the car.
I did a little bit of assembly today.
I finally have a car I can use my old trusty 4 inch K&N filter on.
It looks good through the windscreen. I like seeing the aircleaner wobble around with the engine : )
I still have to fit the tail lights. You can see how big the scoop is from the back too : )

I must say I wasn't really a fan of the scoop but seeing it on the vehicle it actually looks pretty good
Agreed, with some paint on it and on the car it looks quiet good.
Cheers.

looks like it just rolled off the set of mad max! are you putting door mirrors back on it?
Yeah, I'll put the peep mirrors I put on it earlier back on.
You can sort of see them here.

Well I finished off the rear tray today. When I pulled the tail lights out I had to cut the wires as there were no plugs, so I fitted plugs today and fitted the lights back in. I also finished fitting the inner tray sides and tonneau cover.
I'm going to make a drop tank for this too, as toranas with flares NEED a drop tank. I might even just make a fake one yet. We'll see how I feel on the day : )
I also decided there wasn't enough of the air cleaner visible from inside, so I welded a 1 inch strip around the base of the air cleaner to lift it up.
Also, because of legal reasons I dug the old airbox from my avatar car to seal up under the bonnet. If there's a holes in the bonnet the engine needs to be sealed so if there's a major blow up, engine oil doesn't go all over the windscreen.
I also finished modifying the flares and got them in primer today so I can paint them black in the morning. The front spoiler is staying standard so it just needed a rub down.
I pick up my new diff this week so hopefully in the not too distant future I will get some time to cut it down and put it in. There needs to be more hours in a day!

Oh, and at least some aluminium foil glued around those tail lights. Thin stainless surrounds? Some old steel polished and cleared? Or- chrome pinstriping!
I like the look of that scoop now it's got some paint on it!

I was looking at the front of the car and I thought something looked wrong. I'm obviously a mega dumb ass as it took me a few minutes to realise the number plate wasn't fitted. So I fitted it : )
I will pick my axles up tomorrow from George May at Racecraft as he's changing the stud pattern to HQ and fitting new bearings for me. I know it seems silly to be doing work to a diff that wont be in the car for too long but if it means I can drive my car again this week then it's worth it.
I also made a start on the drop tank today. To save engineering hassles I'm just making it as a fake for now, but I'm making it from 1.6mm zinc and will be welding it all properly, so when I have more time I can just weld a top and fittings into it and have it as a proper tank.
I didn't want it to hang down too far, but it had to be wide enough to cover the offset L300 fuel tank that's in there now.
I'm just going to paint the tank the same colour as the bumpers and have flat black straps holding it in.
Well hopefully tomorrow I can get the rear wheels on and get it off the hoist at last!!!!
