Leave the paint as is and just paint the wheels as has been suggested already - a nice light greyish colour. That and the bench seat is all you have to do to it IMHO

As for the bench seat, using a torana bench will leave me with the same problem I have now - no head room. I'm going to build one from scratch to suit me.

I've got a Calais rear seat here with the fold down middle section if you want to experiment :spoton:

its a no go on those widened gts wheels, mate, long gone now. but was worth a thought, Im still liking the idea of the LH stripe on the guards though, and Kev's(Gml-31) idea is pretty cool to, the "sandboy" I like it

The ute looks nice mate, But i still think that torana ute that was half Hq and half lx in streetmachine from tassie a few years back is the best one ive seen, Come on dirtbag time for an LS6

yes it was awesome. But........... Big blocks in a torrie in Queensland are a big no-no.

Yeah, I remember that thing. Had a flip front too didn't it? My only gripe was the big HQ swage in the rear guards didn't really line up with anything, but the proportions on that car were spot on. I'd have it any day : )
As for an LS6, not for this one I'm afraid. Between the new shed and trying to get the new house underway, I have very little time and even less money. I'm quite happy with the 253 and 4 speed. One day I might even steal the old 308 and T5 that came in my brothers car originally : ) Don't tell him that though hahahaha.

Yep it had a flip front as well as a normal bonnet. I've got it in a mag somewhere.
That's just made me think of something.
Dirtbag, what rear suspension does yours have? That other one kept the Torana set up.

Any idea on what it weighs???

Power to weight over a stock lx.

Wouldn't weigh much less than a stock one I wouldn't think. It's really only the weight of a couple of windows and a bit of roof. Then there's all the new metal that's been put into it to take into account as well.
It goes a lot better than my hilux, even though they're both 253's.

It's certainly a creative way to cure a rusted rear screen aperture in an LH lol. It's a very well crafted car & a credit to it's builder, congrats on becoming it's new owner, i'm sure you'll make it even better by adding your own individual ideas to it.

What A great little ute!!, Someone's done a fantastic job on the conversion and put in a lot of work to do so= Id change the wheels though..

I dont know how you find the time to work on this and the Hatchback!?,I reckon you'll get carried away and go the Whole Hog on the ute too LOL!!

It's not so much a case of working on this and the hatchback, as there's also a 69 camaro, 68 firebird, 75 firebird, 63 Pontiac Bonneville and V8 TC cortina I'm doing as well. This basically means the ute wont be getting much attention for quite a while yet : )

I have an idea- put flares on just the rear?

Then you only need 2 fat big$$ wheels?

Would also be a compromise for Bomber and Kush...

Or you could put flares on just one side. Then you could have a picture from either side and keep everyone happy!
(Especially anyone seeing it from the front - haha)

Shoosh, silly brother!! : )

Well I did a little bit to the ute this week. I just want to get the bench seat sorted out.

My old V8 hilux is coming off the road. Sad day, but the asshole government want $1017 a year to register it. Stuff that!!!

Here's my two blue utes.

I just like this pic.

Well for the seat base I bought 2 pieces of 19mm MDF - 2400x600mm.

Posted Image

Here's the woodwork in place. I aslo fitted a centre lap seat belt.

Posted Image

I bought some high density foam, 52/500 or something like that. It's fairly hard, which is what I wanted. I used 50mm for the main pieces, and 25mm for the top layer. I thought I'd add some shape to it by cutting bits out of the top layer. It feels quite good.

Posted Image

It's the first bench seat I've ever made, so I'm sure it's a bit crap, but it's really comfy even with no trim on it. I love it!!!

Posted Image

Well that's it for a while. Can't really think of any quick and easy jobs I want to do.

Perhaps another layer of that foam?

Maybe cut out 30cm square holes in the bottom MDF bits and fit some springs across for bum relief?

I'm thinking a pothole or hard bump and your back will end up shorter?

A shorter back would fix the problem I have. Apart from wanting my daughter to be able to ride in the ute as well, the reason for making the bench myself was to get my head off the roof lining. More foam and springs will put me right back where I started : )

Cars that ride rough are fun. It's not going to be my everyday car, so the more entertaining it is, the better : ) Plus the suspension is pretty good. I've driven it around the property with just the wooden seat bases and it didn't feel too bad.

It's nice to not have to slouch to drive it now, that's for sure : )

Dirtbag, how come the Hilux costs so much to register? Thats ridiculous! Is that the same fee as every other car in queensland? Or have they just come up with some 'commercial vehicle' BS?

By the way nice job on the bench seat. Love how you just get in and do stuff.

I'm thinking the flat 's' shaped springs mounted underneath the board. Old seat springs strung across?

That 19mm you gain and another layer of bum compressed foam and it'll be about the same height as it is now.

BTW, how tall are you?

I'm 6'4" and can fit in my LH Ok(ish) though mine is a sedan not a ute...:blink2:

I reckon to keep the base it is but have a slightly darker bonnet, guards, cowl and window surrounds.
