Dirtbag, how come the Hilux costs so much to register? Thats ridiculous! Is that the same fee as every other car in queensland? Or have they just come up with some 'commercial vehicle' BS?

To answer this question, in QLD rego fee's are calculated on engine size (how many cylinders the motor has) so to reg a V8 up here its a little over $1000 a year which is a bloody rip off..even a 6 cyl is getting up around the $800 mark to reg up here for a year..its bloody ridiculous..i don't understand why they cant just make a universal registration rule for all states instead of charging queenslanders a bloody fortune to own a car..:soapbox:

That's a cool ute i'd realy like one it'd be handy and its a tory. It's in great condition to.

I've seen a couple of modified toranas that yours reminds me of down here one of them's a lh one toner ute a green one looks tough

And a high rise four wheel drive mini monster truck lx hatch back it's gun metal gray with flares.you couldn't miss it you can hear the thing coming like 4 ks away but thats like most hoted up toranas hay .

I recon The paint on yours looks way to good to respray and it dosn't look like it would need much to get it on the road is that your plan after the seat and some where in between all your other projects .

Seen this one?

The back bits fallen off it, like yours. Sounds angry too.

First thing i thought of was that black ute from years ago aswell.

Can't seem to find any pics online, but it was an SM cover car and yeh, it did have a full tilt front end. Looked good in black with chrome bars too : )

Cheers for the photochop with the flares etc. I love flares but it doesn't look right.

I have wanted to do a torry wagon for years. I would still love to see a TD gemmy 2 door wagon, kitted out like a mini-torry on mega dish wheels.

I had a 2 door TD years ago, but i was an apprentice and couldn't afford to do anything decent with it. Posted Image

Absolutely! I've had a torrie wagon in the back of my mind for ages too. There's an LJ with a gemini panel van roof getting around here. It's been done for a while now as I took a pic of it at summernats years ago. It looks great except it has flares on the back but not on the front. Plus a while ago it got T-boned so looks pretty sad now.

I think a 4 door LH/LX with hatch doors and something like a VC commodore wagon roof would be cool. A torana Nomad : )

I bailed him up at the Shell servo coming into Nambour, he was happy show me his car. Bit rough but still pretty cool! I put up a photo around here somewhere...

^ Sounds interesting, would need the front flares too tho i think.

I had a look on the Gemmy forums last night after i got thinking about it again.

There's been a fair bit of interest with people asking about fitting Torry flares to Gem's, but the responses are mostly people saying things like -

"Why do that? Just fit the ones made for Gems" or " Make them out of steel" or "The Torry ones are HUGE and would need to be cut down to size"

And so on. But yeh, if you had the skills, the money, or both, it would be way better to convert an actual LX and that way run a V8 on the street no worries and all the other benefits, like appearing to be a custom Torry wagon and not just a Gem trying to be something that it's not.

Well, it's highly unlikely that i will ever own a house and a shed, but if i somehow end up in that situation, i will attempt that LX wagon project.
Until then, it's just dreams, dreams and more dreams. Posted Image

I reckon some chrome trims around the tail lights are needed...

I totally agree. Chrome bumpers too.

Still not sure what wheels to use. If it wasn't so hard to get old holden bits around here I'd change to HQ pattern and run stock GTS wheels, but there's just nothing around here any more.

Yeah that's the one. Unfortunately it got T boned on arundell avenue a while ago pretty badly. Last time I saw it he'd bashed a lot of it back out, but I haven't seen it for ages so hopefully he's fixing it. (and getting rid of the rear flares) : )

When I saw it at summernats it had jelly bean mags and a VK injected 6 in it. I'd love to get my hands on it : )

Looks like a great conversion ^ .

It's a shame about the front flares falling off and the whole getting t-boned thing. The lines down the side look nice.

Bugger! When i was talking to him he said that he still has the injected 6 and he tried to enter it in the burnout comp at summernats but got knocked back because it had no tailshaft loop, what a downer!

That redneck 4x4 torrie hatch is awesome except for the sunroof and hornet scoop. I'd still have it though : )

Well I've done a couple of small things to the ute.

I thought I'd spend up big and get the bench seat I made professionally trimmed. Does a $30 seatcover from Autobarn count hahaha

I then painted the front wheels black to see how it looked.

Posted Image

I like it much better with the black wheels, so I did the rears too.

Posted Image

The next thing that really annoyed me was the blue bumpers. As much as I don't like painted silver bumpers, I dislike the blue ones more. I can't afford chrome so this was the only option.

They got a few little repairs done where they'd been knocked around a bit, but were a basic sand, prime and paint job.

The paint is protec COB heavy flake silver base. I think it looks OK.

I think the black wheels and silver bumpers break the blue up nicely.
