Hey Dirtbag, go on put tiny bands in the wheel tubs and you'll get 10's in there! I have 2 10's laying around the shed in HQ pattern with 3 and half back space if you want.

Hahah hes mentioned the firebird here and there. Its his wifes car i think

But looking at the camaro thread, im thinking its the other way round and the firebird is on the rotisserie. Or thats just another project he hasn't mentioned.

Hahaha, you guys are funny : )

OK, the car closest in the pic from rodomo is the 69 camaro. The car right in the background with no front panels is the 68 firebird I'm building for my wife. The car on the rotiserie is a 1963 pontiac bonneville 2 door hardtop. Probably one of the rustiest cars I've had to fix, and basically no aftermarket panels, so I've had to make nearly all of it. Good fun : )
Geeez myss427, you sure know how to get a guy thinking. You're a bad influence. I'd still need the skinny front wheels though, cos the 7s I have would look ridiculous on the front.
So tell me, are those 10s a donation? :badabing:

OK. Here's a quick rundown on the bonneville.

Here it is the day it arrived at my place.

Posted Image

This is looking up to the inner/outer sill and chassis rail. Mint condition : )

Posted Image

After what felt like a million hours it was all back to bare metal.

Posted Image

After etch priming the whole lot I unbolted the body from the chassis, then propped the body up on the chassis with some timber to make it easier to get onto the rotisserie. Only problem was the body was holding the chassis together, so when I propped it up on the timber it broke the chassis in two at the firewall. Bargain : )

Posted Image

Eventually I got it onto the rotisserie. It's still on there to this day.

Posted Image

Here's a look at the inner sill. Nice!

Posted Image

This channel is where the chassis runs. It all needs replacing.

Posted Image

The floor and floor supports have a few issues too.

Posted Image

All the grey bits are new metal.

Posted Image

Here's the majority of the floor fixed, the wheel tub has been stretched 100mm to fit 20x16s and the new outer sill made and clamped into place to check fit.

Posted Image

With the lower part of the rear quarter cut off I could make a new lip for the outer wheel tub.

Posted Image

Here's the same channel I showed earlier that the chassis rail sits in. Looks a little different now.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Now with a bit of new metal on the outside it sort of looks like a car again.

Posted Image

Anyway, I could go on for ages about the work gone into this thing but I wont bore you with it all. Basically everything is pretty stuffed and I've been fixing it : )

You are never boring Dr Dirt, and sorry to make this a reprimand but in future we your loyal followers expect to see multiple threads, on the build up of each master piece as you weld your magic grinder, MIG and craft

Another thing I thought I'd have a quick play with was a steel 4 inch camaro/torana style scoop.

I started with some 1.2mm zincaneal sheet. I used the folder to put the small swage through the middle of the piece.

It's hard to see the swage as it's quite small, just like a torana bonnet.

Posted Image

You can just see the swage here. I wanted it to match the torana bonnet really well.

Posted Image

I've got a piece of 1 inch pipe I can clamp into the folder so I can do bigger radius bends than the machine allows. I thought this might be good enough for the side bends.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I just did a few basic pie cuts to get the front to angle down.

Posted Image

I traced the profile of the bonnet onto the lower edges of the scoop, then trimmed it to fit. Once that was done I used a hammer and dolly to put a radius around the base of the scoop, where it meets the bonnet. Then I tacked the scoop on.

Posted Image

I then stripped the bonnet, cleaned the scoop and put a lot more tacks on the scoop.

Posted Image

Because I don't get much time to play with my own little projects I put some rust converter on it so it can sit around for a while.
This is just a trial to see how easy it would be. I think this one looks OK but is a little bit squared off, so if I do another one it will be more rounded. I'll see how it looks once this bonnet is painted.

Posted Image

So what do you think?

I'll put the wheels on the car when I get a pair for the front. I don't want mismatched wheels. Fussy, aren't I : ) hahaha

Looks sweet so-far!

Yes on the more rounded shape. I've never made something like this so you can take this 'with a grain of salt' but would it be easier to get the top shape (like the front sloped section) and use 2 seperate side pieces? :dontknow:

You could make it in 3 separate sections, but then you've got a lot more welding and metal finishing to take care of. Plus the extra risk of it warping. That's basically the point of this exercise was to see if I could fold up something in 1 piece that can still look OK once it's welded on and smoothed in. I'll have to wait and see when this one is primed whether I need to make it out of multiple pieces to get the look I'm after.

Cool. I love the work you've done on the Bonneville. Isn't there a thread on it somewhere already?

Yep, in the 69 Comaro thread
Just confirming I noticed the boot pan in the Bonni is different to the 63 Pontiac Laurentian.

Since the chassis is #@$^%& in the Bonni, aybe an Art Morrison sub frame would be the go, if they make them for this model.

Thanks Herne. People normally just call me an asshole hahaha : )

Bart, the owner of the car has a '62 chassis there for me to play with that's in good nick. I was just going to bring the rear rails in a bit but now maybe we'll go with a McDonalds Bros triangulated 4 bar rear clip instead.

No worries, there were variations in the chassis from 62 on, the K chassis and wide track, the K chassis being the narrow track i think. Im sure you're more than able to buff that issue out
Great work. :3gears:
