Several members have bought VN diffs and had them cut down, so I'm hoping somebody will know what the rear track measurement for a stock VN is, or what the width of the diff is from the bolt up face of the disc to disc is.

Question, why would you use a VN diff if you have to cut it down? Go to the wreckers there missing centeres and axles missing from heaps of commdores. Every second VL turbo has a 9inch and different box. Must be real good diffs. Why not just put 9inch in and forget about it.

Chopper 1482mm on the wifes VN Wagon (Just went out and measured it). Borg Warner 3.08 LSD.

Why not Ford 9"? Alot of the guys are going to Borg Warner diffs, don't know how they compare strength wise, but I believe you get the strength without the weight. Think that's what the thinking is.

The BW is nowhere near as strong as a ford 9", in stock form the 9" is probably still 100% stronger.

I asked a question about a BW diff, why am I getting questions about a 9" diff? That doesn't answer the question I asked.

Once again, what is the rear track of a VN Commodore? Yella seems to think it's 1482 MM, I thought it was over 1500 MM.

I'm buggered why there is a 2 MM difference in track with Calais Vs. the others. Anybody shed some light?

1482 is what I measured on the car in the driveway this morning, centre to centre. Don't have a manual for that car.

Oh, I'm running 215 tyres, but standard rims, but don't think that has any affect on centre to centre.

Found this for you Chopper, thanks to Dr. Terry's website.

VN Review

Front track (mm) - 1451 (Executive and Berlina), 1453 (Calais).
Rear track (mm) - 1478 (Executive and Berlina), 1480 (Calais).

Now if I can just find some pics of the G-Pak Torries which is what I was actually looking for!!!

I thought somebody else would have picked up on this by now. Did you know that a stock VN axle is just as strong as a 28 spline Ford 9" axle?

Apart from the bearing, the axles are interchangeable. Anyway, thanks for the specs Yella. The difference in track between the Calais and the rest is probably due to the fact that some 15x6 Commodore alloy rims were cast as +42 instead of the regular +43. I have seen a few like that, but never took much notice of it. Why GMH would bother to do that is beyond me.

It wouldn't have taken as many beers as the decision to have a 4 banger VC/VH!

They did.

VB - VK "series 1" rear track is 1414 MM.*
VK " series 2" and VL rear track is 1440 MM.

* A reliable source says that the wagon rear track is an extra 12.7 MM wider than sedans.
