From reading some info i got a little while back. Holden announced in 1978 that the UC wouldnt be avalible with the V8 option due to the new front running holden VB commodre with all the engine variants starfire 1.9 ltr, red 173,202 & 253 and 308. Its a pitty coz the UC was at the time the best handling holden ever

The 1.9 4-cyl wasn't seen in Commodore until mid-way thru the VC series in June 1980, so it wouldn't have been known about in early 1978 for the UC launch. There was no VB 4-cyl Commodore.

Also the Commodore itself was a closely guarded secret until its Oct 1978 release, so again it wouldn't have been mentioned at the UC launch.

To my knowledge GM-H didn't really give a reason why the Torana V8 was discontinued, other that the impending fuel crises of the era.

Because they had planned to put the V8 Salisbury in it but when GM made them go with the Commodore they didn't see the point in setting it up for both maybe ?

Were there any prototype UC V8s ?

Holy f'n wow! I love the Sunbird and the SL/E badges! Really looks cool man.

Can you tell me about your diff set up? looks nice, and is it a case of mini tubbed, or just shortened diff with coil overs?

Cheers

This is my neighbours rig being pieced together, has a 185kw hsv injected motor t700 9" at the moment but in the making is an injected 355 force fed by a GT45 Turbo

I'm not big on the UC's but this thing will stand out, the FR19 rims and chamois interior really pop with the Ford Atomic blue.
