Anything else was a request like to thank Liz for my card etc.

I did that for you fella.

Keep your spirits up.

The other thing, oh well, these things are sent to test us. I made sure I kept him talking as long as possible to spare anybody else the hassle. I'm determined to turn it into a positive and get me off my butt to finally converting to HQ all round. Then I can use Trev's GTS rims!!!! If he will let me of course.

ty for that :)

Yeah, I am even thinking of going soft and getting legal rims - God forbid.. The car will look shite...

Despite this incident, most cops are good natured and good about it all mate. Don't over-react. Like he said to me, its only the 5% that ruin it for the rest of them. Bet you he didn't realise it cuts both ways.

You could understand it if we were playing up, but we were travelling in convoy, 10km/h under the speed limit. Your car was at the end, and he had a look at it. Then he put himself between your car and mine. The truth of the matter is, that he would have gone through the whole convoy till he pinged somebody for something. That somebody that particular day was me. He could have got any one of us.

I put the ticket on display on the day with the approval of the organisers, and most local people who saw it were disgusted.

I might travel to the event via Adamstown/Williamstown next year to avoid that stretch of road, or pick another venue to stay at that has a different road into the event. I will definitely be doing something to mitigate the risk.

For the organisers, the fellow was from the Newcastle HWP, which I believe even though they are all Police, is a separate section of the Police Force.

It seems apparent to me that the copper was unsure of ACT regs?? He sat behind Danny for a good 3k's looking at my car and then passed it to pull you over...I am pretty sure my rims are wider and also sit wider than yours...

Glad to hear that you are attending next year but I know Keith has booked our room already and included you in the calculations. The way the costs have risen at the reg motel maybe a change could be in order? I heard that the Victorians are not happy about the latest charges too although I have yet to verify the statement. 3 years ago it cost us approx $30.00 per head per night, I think its more like $90 now.

THANK YOU for all the totally awesome pics everyone. This is an amazing event, full of awesomeness. Probably the best event in the world really.

Would love to attend one year, we'll see what happens in 2011 and maybe I'll cruise LXCHEV up with the family on board.

Some absolutely stunning cars, and such great variety. Well done to the organisers. It makes my head hurt just thinking about trying to organise something like this.

Once again, cheers for all the pics.

Shame to hear about the cops picking on a few cars, but what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. I've been through the exact same thing with my car.... attending car events, behaving myself, yet getting picked on. Not fair, and pisses you off, but you just gotta do what you gotta do.

I'm not sure if I missed it or not, but what was the official Torana count for the weekend?

Cheers.

I pretty sure it is brett.

There was tonnes of room left though so the cutoff of 280 or whatever it was shouldnt be a drama, they can fit more! haha.

All the Toranas i saw were outstanding in my view, but here are some i particulaly liked as i'm something of an originality fan.

John Gong's LC XU-1 would have to one of the best concourse restored Toranas i've seen. The attention to detail & originality, not to mention body & paint is stunning & John himself is a great bloke to talk to, really knows his stuff. Wish i'd taken more pics of this car.

Ahh ok, bloody low act.

Heard someone got done for reversing a car off a trailer without a seatbelt on as well. Illegal? Technically. Petty? Definitely...

Yella is booked in for it's inspection next Monday (it's a holiday in Canberra) to clear the defect. Yuck, those horrible skiny wheels. I'll take a pic.

Did they only get you for wheels Pat? I think im in for some fun to clear mine :( it says full inspection on it

Yup, from my travels today, I found out that you can't get partial inspections anymore, if you get pinged, you get hit with a full inspection, even though it is only a minor defect. Mine says the same, although I'm not overly worried because the wheels are the only thing not engineered, however I may get them done under the new test in the Light Vehicle Modification code. That'll stump them. I don't believe there is any defendable science behind 1" wider than manufactured track other than RTA conservatism.

I find it ironic that the Hot Rodders aren't restricted. What is the difference?

^^ If all else fails, a few people tell me that the ticket is not filled in correctly, so open to challenge, i.e. no VIN, and the time that the vehicle is on the road hours/days and the time/date are not done properly, so you could get of on an invalid ticket, but you will need professional advice on that.

I think this has to be my most fave Torry of the whole show, although there were lots of great cars there.

Having said that, I didn't get to see Dirtbag, although I heard he was under a straw hat.

A couple of other strange characters.

^ Keith was on a mission to take the honours off Barry for the fancy dress. And he succeeded. Two very competitive dudes.

Here's my new fave pic of Yella.

And for those that thought I only took pictures of the Yella ones, the rest of my pics can be found here:

Yella's Toranafest Pics

Higher res ones are available if there is one there of your car that you like. PM me.

Great pictures guys. I hope to be there next year.

What was the final count of Toranas?

Shame to see the VTC guys had some dramas. I guess I will hear about it at the next meeting.

Did anyone get any rear shots of this car? Looks very like my old car. Mine had straight gas so it had a Gas filler to the left of the petrol cap.

Steve

(Vic Torana Club) My Black Lx that had the cam problem, stopped about an hour out of Newcastle and is still in NSW to be trucked back to Melbourne. Tony's Hatch with the blown diff made it home without a glitch via a couple of laps of Bathurst. All good look much forward to next year.

Regards
Andy
