Toranafest 2011 the best so far. Already looking forward to 2012. Mick you've got the trophy and you've had a few days off now back to work. To all the entrants a job well done in the quality of your cars. It was great to put faces to forum names and meeting up with old friends. and yes Gene you are allowed back next year to keep Big T under control. Lastly I'd like to thank the members of the HVTC for their amazing effort and hospitallity in hosting Toranafest and the members of Canberra Torana Club for their outstanding effort in winning us the 2011 club display and to all other trophy winners a well deserved recognition for your hard work.

See you all then if not before on the road somewhere.

Cheers

 At the Stockton park on Saturday arvo when Bev was walking around having a look at our Toranas.

Posted Image

Bev stopped and asked about my health problems and some other stuff so evidently she remembered me from our drive back from last years cruise.

We are extremely lucky to have such a gracious lady who gives freely of her time and who basically is a very nice person.

Hi All

Here is the lis of trophy winners at Toranafest this year.

Posted Image

To all of those that won Sponsors Trophies, Congratulations!

Although, to us, every car entered on the day deserves a trophy, and we have been fortunate over the last two years to give every entrant an Entrants Trophy. It is great to see some individuals, etc recieve some regognition from our Sponsors.

On the subject of Trophies, I have had two emails sent to me talking about the way trophies are done at Toranafest.

I will not name who the emails came from but I will show some excerpts from them here..

The first one came from an entrant and some of the things that were said were;

"The very number of cars in attendance this year would suggest that certain models are over represented compared to some making the possibility of winning an award a spit in the ocean and this can be discouraging when its an one in all in system that you currently have."

"If you are to have various model breakdowns i.e. HB,LC,LJ,TA,LH,LX & UC for your best in show awards as it is termed why is it that stock / original cars are up against the Modified versions of their former self".

"With out the original and restored versions for which the modified cars have to thank for their being the general public and Torana enthusiasts would in time loose what its like to see a Torana as it left the showroom".

"To further encourage and strengthen your event I ask you and your event organizers to asses this distinction between Stock/Original and modified versions if you are to hand out awards at future events".

"There are owners who drive them to work every day, drive them on the weekends, restore them, and leave them as they are original , show them & wish to be rewarded for having them as they see fit this is the other side of the scales for the owners and sometimes when events get as large as yours this is lostthe very name of the event captures what should be A FESTIVAL OF ALL TORANAS not a sub category of Street Machine nationals".

It should reward the battler of a piece of @#$% to the very best of the best .Not every one at the event is or wants to be a member to the hand full of Torana car clubs and as a outsider to this culture the presentation ceremony yesterday showed that it was of the club persuasion

This is one possible configuration for categories it defines the models and the body styles.

Also the split of say LX Toranas to LC Toranas would have been massive so you need to monitor how many of each you will have
Pre entered to have placings if required in each category.

Yes this does create more work for organizers and bodies on the ground but in all fairness I didnt see any one actually look at my car
With any judging criteria in hand?????

The growth of an event like yours is dependent on Volunteers , Funding & fundraising ,sponsors and entrants fees. The bigger it gets, the bigger the beast. Share it around. Have the other clubs offered to host this event to give you a breather??????
To get ready for the next one you hold.
This formula works well with other model Holdens

Before you all comment on this, here are my thoughts on it..
1. It is "Sponsors Choice". Has been that wya for the past three years and what we say to the Sponsors is this.. "Whatever floats your boat!"
2. There simply is not the time, nor the people, to go around and judge that many cars in that many categories. He is suggesting 50 Awards and that does not take into accoung the Competition awards, display awards, furthest distance, etc. And it doesn't include Runner Ups!
3. The amount of awards would see the presentations ceremony go into at least 100mins!!
4. The cost of that many tropies would be in the region of $3-4000!!
5. The comment of Toranafest going to anywhere other than Newcastle is just beyond me.. I mean it's been here since 1994 and hopefully it will still be here in 2044! It's not going anywhere soon!

I can only say that I feel that 98% of those who attend Toranafest, do so for the atmosphere, the friendships and the chance to see the many and varied cars that Toranafest attracts! If we were to start going down the path of all these trophies and what have you, what effect would that have on the majority of entrants? I know that we still get guys and girls say to us "oh, my cars not good enough for Toranafest".. That is not what we are trying to achieve.

I know, that we have a lot of award winning cars. One example known to all is Howard and Litre8. I know that Howard comes to Toranafest to enjoy the weekend and catch up with alot of people as does everyone else. Trophies are great, don't get me wrong, but I had people come up to me and comment on how theyregards Toranafest as their "Christmas"!

While we cannot go to the lengths that 'ol mate has suggested above, we are looking at this within the Club and it maybe that for next year, we may have a special group of Trophies for the LC and LJ GTR and XU-1's because that will fit into our theme of "Celebrating the Giant Killers!". We will see.

As always, your comments are welcome,

cheers

Its been in its current format for many years and, from my perspective, if it ain't broke....... As I see it any award achieved is just icing on the cake, the event is all about bringing out your Torana, mixing with the like minded masses and having a great time.

Mick maybe its best to not have any Trophys, this is more then a Car Show that awards Trophys. Its an event that raises money and a get to gether for people that loves theses cars.
I reckon theres more satisfaction with a stranger coming up and commenting on your car and giving it a rap then any Trohpy.
Just my thoughts anyway.
cheers Dane.

Hey guys just thought I'd check in & tell you of today's events.
I'm sitting in triage @ the local hospital, A learner driver with no passenger arse ended me in the HB today :-(
Pretty devastated, to the extent I kindly asked them to let me cool down before we talk. She got a fined so hope she loses her learners
Thankfully !!!! At Torana fest I increased my shannons policy by an extra 5 grand or they would have written it off.
I'll get some pics when I'm outta this crap hole.
