Very sorry to hear I hope you are OK and your car makes a speeding fix/recovery.Hey guys just thought I'd check in & tell you of today's events.
I'm sitting in triage @ the local hospital, A learner driver with no passenger arse ended me in the HB today :-(
Pretty devastated, to the extent I kindly asked them to let me cool down before we talk. She got a fined so hope she loses her learners
Thankfully !!!! At Torana fest I increased my shannons policy by an extra 5 grand or they would have written it off.
I'll get some pics when I'm outta this crap hole.

Noooooo!!
I really hope that they can repair your car and bring it to the standard that is was on the weekend.
It's such a lovely little can and it would be a shame to lose if from our community.
We at the HVTC sincerely hope that you are ok and that the HB makes a speedy recovery.
regards
Mick
Its been in its current format for many years and, from my perspective, if it ain't broke....... As I see it any award achieved is just icing on the cake, the event is all about bringing out your Torana, mixing with the like minded masses and having a great time.
Thanks Howard,
your comments are very much appreciated!
Mick maybe its best to not have any Trophys,this is more then a Car Show that awards Trophys.Its an event that raises money and a get to gether for people that loves theses cars.
I reckon theres more satisfaction with a stranger coming up and commenting on your car and giving it a rap then any Trohpy.
Just my thoughts anyway.
cheers Dane.
Thought about that Daneo,
but the Sponsors do get a kick out of it!
and yes, having someone compliment you on your car is, IMHO, worth more than a $30 trophy!
cheers
Mick

Once I'd calmed down I spoke to her and said you do realize what you've just hit right ?
Ditzy blonde had no idea they tried to brush the fact she didn't have a passenger under the rug but I made sure she learns her lesson.
Took me half an hour or so to talk to her and I cried for an hour. I'm just so so lucky my kids weren't in there or then I would have put her in a hurtlock.

on the subject of trophies it doesnt worry me either way the trophy is in being able to participate.but as you say it is impossible to get around to every car.have you considered a peer voting form included in every bag with the categories listed out and just requiring the entrants number which you could supply a numbered sticker (shannons have these so no cost to you) on the cars windscreen and the number is simply entered in each one and handed in by say 1pm and this gives you time to count the votes.this removes any flack that you may attract with respect to how the winners are decided.
Rob,
Over the years, we have gone down many paths of how we judge trophies and we have tried them all.
From before 2007, we had Entrant Voting;
 took an absolutely sh!t load of time to tally votes (about 3 hours on 100 cars) and usually the club with the most cars entered, voted for their own club cars.
 Our poor blokes didnt get a look in because we were all too busy on the day to worry about judging!
In 2007, we had had the Australian National Street Machine Association Judges;
 That was a waste of time and money that was!
 We had Historic, Modified and Original Categories.
 They picked modified cars and awarded them Original trophies!! By the time we had realised, it was too late...
 Nevertheless, there were arguments over why a car got a trophy and another didnt!
In 2008, we tried it again and we got people for the other Clubs to do it;
 Only problem was that it tied them up for the whole day and they didnt get to enjoy the day at all.
 Again, we had issues with people saying their car was original when it was plainly Restored" or "semi restored". Again more arguments!
From 2009, we decided that it would be Sponsors Choice;
 That means if the Sponsor sees a car that he really likes in the category that he has sponsored, and he deems it his favourite, then so be it.
 To date, we have only ever had three four people complain/ question this..
 Pretty good when you consider that we have had an average of 265 cars over the past three years.
cheers
Mick

im sure youll have a small army of helpers.
good luck with it all.
yeah well mick looks like you have tried all avenues .you have probably the best system in place and it isnt fair to have your club members tied up in awards they have to be able to enjoy the day as well.perhaps you could ask for people from other clubs who wish to offer you their services to help lessen the load of your members like a shift arrangement.i dont think people from other clubs would mind helping for a few hours here and there with the various /numerous tasks you do so that some of you can go and enjoy the day .

winning a class is always a great thing and I suppose people just want to have a "fair" (remembering everyones perception/view on whats fair will vary) chance at winning.
Whats the answer? #@$^%& if I know. You are never going to keep everyone happy. the local show here (500 cars) has a judging panel from the club and a few different "crowd judged" awards, but again, takes some logistics.

If you only go to these events to win trophies you are going for the wrong reason
The idea of the event is to raise money for Ronald McDonald house so that families with sick kids can be near them.
Remember how lucky we are some of these kids are not as lucky spare a thought for them and there families

To us Toranafest is all about spending time with other Torana enthusists and catching up with friends NOT ABOUT THE TROPHIES.

Why do people get so hung up over a piece of wood & plastic (trophy).
Get over it
This show is for Ronald McDonald House & sick kids.

couldnt agree more there
there's only one thing better than a trophy and that is stone chips.cant understand why people wrap there cars in cotton wool,at the end of the day its just a car
like what you said above this show is about the ronald mcdonald house and all of us torana owners getting together to raise money to help sick children

Cant wait to hopefully make it again to T/fest at Newcastle soon.

Seriously though the whole weekend is for charity, catching up and having a laugh with some new and old friends(and some extremely old) and being able to enjoy owning a torana. I had someone mention that my hatch had been a inspiration to them and that felt better to hear than receive any trophy.
Good times , great friends bring on tfest 2012

Says he, happily, with a new trophy on the mantle piece.Toranafest has never been a "trophy show" as long as I've been goin to it. It's all about Toranas. That's one of the great things about it. My cars have always been rough as when I've taken them in but I don't care.

just a comment regarding sponsors choice..
ive been a sponsor for the last few years.....i must say i enjoy judging by doing the float my boat rule.
its still not what i would call simple as i am into original and radically modified as well as all in between.
this year i was given the task of doing lx....damn it was a hard decision to pick 2 toranas that floated my boat..the quality and quantity of lx by themselves was staggering.
next year i want to do something simple like hb or uc...
miss lc..im sorry to hear about your hb as i was admiring the little torrie at the fest..if you need a new old stock rear beaver i believe i have one hanging on the wall...
cheers to all the entrants of toranafest your all winners..greg..classic oz wreck

Darlin i'm shattered for your incident to your car , i was admiring it from early morning & damn its a real nice original car .
Talk to Greg at Oz Wreck i'm sure he will help you source the original bits you need , damn shame that , just good thing the littlins weren't in the back.
Makes you wonder though how some of these younger peoples' minds work Eh...L plater no one in the passenger side (don't have to have a long neck to be a goose) i say....
Hopefully the law makes her think twice next time round....hope she's got a fine pair of walkin shoes...
Cheers
