Does anyone get about on the street running no bars front and rear?

Anyone know if it's legal?

I know the 2 little nosecone pieces that extend out from the front would probably be frowned upon, but assuming they were shaved.

I have been noticing a few pics in the build threads and kinda like the look. (not practical i know, except for weight reduction and possibly aerodynamics)

One example is this shot of Adrian's AHH.308 LX sedan:

IMO not an ideal image without all the doors and the boot shut, but you get the idea.

You WILL NEED bumpers. Setting them back against or into the panel maybe acceptable, and they would fade-in if body colour.
You will not get a torana registered without them. Even the oldskool bumperettes that used to be the go for the front cannot be used.

I remember seeing Toranas with those and double grille for sale in caryards many years back.

I wondered whatever happened to that look.

I'm planning to make the my bumpers fit up really close to the body. A little bit of cutting and bending to wrap them around nicely. (when I eventually get to it) too much other stuff to do yet. I reckon it'll look cool.

Yeh, that's what i thought.

Wasn't really meaning when going for rego tho, more just cruising around after the fact Posted Image

Was thinking of modified plastic bars for a while, from things like R31 Skylines, VL Commys, Honda Preludes etc.

Still an option i guess, but probably a lot of work for something that might look crap, but i do think that the R31s front bar could look nice if done right.

Thinking of modified original styles recently too, and spotted an old type of Merc that has steel bars very similar to Torries, but about half the chunkyness.

Modding the originals sounds interesting too, or even making new custom ones from steel that mimic the body lines and hug it really close.

Guess i should be speaking to an engineer about these things.

Don't do it, those plastic wrap around bumper bars make the car look like it's wearing a nappy.

Could look good if it was smoothed, gaps filled and the grill extended down all the way... or at least different anyway.

Starting to think it's probably a silly idea though. They are there for a reason and i don't need any more reasons to worry. If someone backed into the car even gently they could smash out a headlight or something, and they are really hard to find. Plus any extra hassles about roadworthyness, not really worth it on a street car.

I already have a set of fibreglass bars too. They wont do much, but should offer some protection from old ladies in parking lots.

What happened to your old bumper?

Bit of silliness on my part led to it getting straightened. But I want to get one back on. They are meant to take a 'bump'
