IMO the guy selling you the paint would be best placed to advise on primer.

I always use 2k primer, whether I'm top coating with 2k or acrylic. You'll get a lot less shrink back, and it's a much better sealer than acrylic primer. Easier to get a much better build too should you need it. Just my opinion.

?????
i thought you only got that if you didn't let the primer cure?
ie leave it for a week to dry
so what's the go with 2 pack primers and acylic
you not add the hardner and use acyrlic thinners?
or is it the same as normal two pack
ie mix hardner/2 pack thinners and retardner

I agree with Tim. I have used 2K primer under acrylic in the past with no problems. A good mate of mine who is a top class painter is restoring his factory black HK327 Monaro (only one ever made) to concourse has used 2K under acrylic to give it that factory finish. It has to be one of the best black acrylic paint jobs I have seen.

Just finished my first paint job. I took the advice from the paint place (Pro Tec) and people on this site and used an etch and then a primer filler which I thought was easy enough to spray with a middle class gun (Star), with a 2mm tip. Was abit cheaper than PPG too I think? This was acylic done in my backyard shed.
Cheers Dan

Um quaggy Protec is owned by PPG....And there the highest earning division of PPG global per capita....

Protec has come a very very long way in the last 10 years, there products are very very good now days.

You will need to catalyze a 2k primer, and i dont think acrylic thinners will work well in it.

Cheers.

From wHat I know acrylic colour doesn't stick to well to 2pac primers. The acrylic won't soften the 2pac so it won't melt/bite in = delamination. Steps for using a 2k primer filler base. 2k prime, rub 320 wet or if you prefer rubbing dry you will need a different grit note 320 is too coarse for colour but will leave a good key for the interface primer, acrylic lacquer primer wet rub again an apply colour. I am sure many would argue but thats the way I have always done it. IMO do all the prep work yourself super etch it to seal your work from the atmosphere then get someone to 2k it for you. You will be much happier in the long run
Cheers Dave.

Thats actually exactly what i was thinking.

I have never put acrylic over 2k primer and am no real expert, but i honestly cant see acrylic sticking strait to a 2k primer very well.

In my mind im pretty sure i'd do it along those lines.

Oh yeah and i called one of the Protec reps out of curiosity and asked him and thats what he said hehehe.

From bare metal, 429 Paraphos, 443 parafill, then acrylic primer filler then acrylic top coat.

Thats in Protec, use whatever you want, but follow that basic system.

Cheers.
