The guy im giving it to though took the most interest in it and he always has 3 in the shop at all times were as the others had 1-2 and some didn't even have any.
The other guy i spoke to said he couldn't fit me in for another 1-2 years he was that busy with it all but i think he only kept 2 in shop at all times. One of the other ones didn't really seem to give a crap either way. And the other one dads mate had a few issues with. Still talked to him but yea the paint job on it was shithouse and had to be redone. So he got the job!
Luck of the draw i guess.
But this guys taken interest in it which is good in my books, already gone over and looked at it at the sandblasters to see what needs to be done etc etc. Real nice guy.
Plus at the end of the day im happy if it runs over a few more months than what im expecting providing its a good job and im really happy with it.
And yea my patience is running out lol, im thinking of doing the engine now still not quite sure....See how we go. Thinking of getting a new job and moving too which doesn't help the whole thing D:
Chev car show today was a bit of a flop.
someone said chev no longer runs it and someone else does.....Not sure the full story but not as many bikes (most were at phillip island from what i understand to)
Bout 2-3 less rows than last year.
Fare few torana's too. One made his way down from canberra etc.
Dad got talking to one of them for quite a while john someone or something forget his name.

Yea i hope it gets a move on soon. Thinking of buying a daily soon aswell which could put it back a little. Just wait and see i guess.
Thinking of painting the engine black at the momment, still looking at some pics and stuff (wont be pink as dad and he suggested). Hunted around and found the fly wheel he wanted for balancing etc. Take that up to my uncles on boxing day and he might drop it in there for us or we will organise to drop it off at his house no big deal. Or if i feel like driving to goulburn anytime soon we can do that as well.
So much garage space now with the engine gone lol.

Sandblaster rang this morning and said to come over. He has done the doors boot bonnet and a few other little bits and bobs. The drivers side door on the car is rat shit basicly. The replacement i got with the car has only 1 rust spot less than a 5 cent piece no other rust on any doors/boot/bonnet except a tiny dent in the drivers door aswell.....Sort of like a crease mark.
He is comming over for lunch on sunday might be doing the car body next week we will talk about that then. said i can keep all the bits locked up in the shed their until the panel beater wants them.
Pretty happy that their is no rust in anything thus far except a tiny bit.

Need a new engine, guy pulled it apart and said its been done up and has high comp head but the crank is worn for some reason, Said he can do this one up reco etc but he thinks its worth while getting another engine. Friend has one and said we could have it......Burried at the back of his woodshed behind a few hundred logs but it will be ok im hoping....It is also a 202. I can keep the head off the other motor because it is high comp and yea.....go from their so when i get a chance to chase that one up ill get a few pics etc.
Then hopefully things will start running smooth lol.

Mate, this is the last of your worries, after looking at the work you've put into the body etc. rebuilding a 202 is a drop in the ocean. Glad you're getting given one, never pay more than a carton of beers for a 202 unless it's fresh! I wish I'd had as much ingenuity as you do at your age. Keep up the good work!

Yea tyre, i get anoyed easily i guess. I was honestly hoping the car would be finished this time last year, but due to shitty wage and waiting on other people made it take longer. Mind you i can't complain i just need to get out and get a new job but doing that would put the car back more which is why im waiting for it to be finished and shit begins (move out of home etc etc)
To make me more anoyed. Won't get the engine until after xmas now which #@$^%& up my plans completly.

Engine will be around 4k for full reco and a bit of a performance upgrade. (plus 2100 for webbers unless they drop in price by the time i get them)
Panel beater said around 8-12k maybe a bit more depending on rust. But with only 1 rust whole in all the doors, bonnet and boot im hoping it wont go to much over the 12k. Plus now im looking at getting it done up to a show car standard (not showy enough that im scared as shit to drive it) which will make it cost more but its taken this long and im planning on keeping it forever so i may aswell do it now before i have home loans and shit to deal with.
In other news, helped the guy clean out his woodshed today you can actualy see the engine now! Going to leave it there though until dads free (have to use his ute) which is after xmas but i guess its good to see some sort of progress for a change lol.

IMO, you're going about this entirely wrong... Trying to build a chequebook car on a minimal wage isn't the way to go. My LJ owes me ~$10k all up, and that was in a lot worse shape than yours. That's with new suspension all round, straight, rust free, painted in 2K, mild 202, celica 5 speed, new 15" wheels, new carpet, rubbers, stereo, hoodlining, exhaust etc etc etc.
Why not tackle the body yourself? You seem to be handy enough on the tools, and if you frOck up, it's only metal, you can fix it...
Just seems a bit backwards to me spending $20k+ restoring a car that will only be worth half of that...
Like I said, it's just my opinion... I'm sure you've got reasons for doing it like you are, too. I look forward to progress either way.

So the front doesn't need anything really in terms of work for the panel beaters the rear door is about 10mm off the body but i think it was in an accident so im hoping they can fix that if not then booo?
But yea i was originaly going to try and do all the work myself but waiting for other people to help out and teach me a few things just got anoying. The floors were basicly wacked in and dad did majority of the welding.
As far as i know (body hasn't been sandbllastered) the ends of the sills are rat shit but the rest are ok, just infront of the sill ends is also a bit rat shit but i don't know until its blastered. Wheel well in boot is rat shit, i actualy made a replacement for that myself it was smick then all of a sudden i realised i put the grove and hole on the wrong frOckING SIDE. I still might bang that in anyways......like its only a wheel well right?
And we bought the welder with a tig for doing all the window frames so ill have a crack at those ive never even touched a tig welder before so that could turn out pretty bad.
So the plan is to try and get most of it done myself but like i said i was wanting it done this time last year so im kind of getting over it. Im probably impatient but ive been waiting on the sandblaster and panel beater for over half a year plus waiting to save money for a few years.
But your right i should do more myself which i plan on doing (thanks for the rocket up my ass too) Just depends what happens i guess. As i said before we know the sandblaster and he offered to keep it their for as long as we need but he is sick atm.....wont explain it to people on here but he is fine now but its creeping up on him and he wants the place sold june/july next year. So unless i shove a rocket up the panel beaters ass to know when they are ready i cant do much. I don't want it sitting around taking up room in his shed when i know he is sick and he wants to leave.
As for the 202 i was thinking of doing that myself but i don't know if i have the right tools. Plus to be honest i don't really have a clue how an engine works. (hence why i need some more people to teach me) Dad prob knows a bit but he hasn't played with one in 30 odd years and working with the ambulance his shifts are pretty shit. Hell i didn't even know it had a high performance head on it.
As for the carbs......Yea webbers are expensive and prob uneccesary but thats what i want so the people who hate webbers can blow it out their ass its my car after all (2100 is brand new).
Plus im really getting sick of my job but like i said i can't get a new one until its finished (i can but then it will prob never get finished) hence why the impatience and wanting to just shift it to the panel beaters.
But your right in the long run ill be better off.
k im stop typing now lol....

Dont want to burst your bubble but i think 8 - 12 k on paint is probably a waste of money for something that is going to be a daily and not show car, just my opinion. That money could virtually finish the entire car bar the paint.
See how you go!

But yea it wont be a daily but not show room scale either. I would like to get it out for weekend cruises regularly rather than have it sitting in the shed for majority of the time. (i actualy need to get a daily at some stage too)
I would be to scared to paint it myself i suck balls at painting anything.
Ill try get that spare wheel well repair i made up see what you guys think (if i didn't chuck it in rage).
But yea ill try and do most of it myself if i can, if i fail dad can do most of it because he was a boiler maker.....Mind you the size difference in the steel he was welding is a lot different lol. Might even join a club soon even though the cars not done to get around a few more people who can teach me and know what they're doing.
As for the engine, i need a new one anyways the old one was stuffed.....Whats a good price on one already reco'd?
>thanks for repliesz
