Blacks racks make the billet bonnet hinges with struts to suit torana, also rocket industries sell the ring bros hinges
Both retail about $950 a pair.

What's ya grans name and where's she live ill send her some flowers and my bank details,

Lucky bastard!

Jeez, they're expensive lol
No way, my gran!

Hi mate, as for colours i'd personally stick right away from any special effect & candy paints, otherwise just pick 1 of a brand new car you like but harder to touch up including stone chips. & also the original don't date as much you see so many fad from 3-5 years ago & once it's over they just look dated & shit, so unless you want to keep spending $$ & changing things a timeless classic to me makes more sense & allways looks good. Sebringn tangerine, indy orange, lone-o-ranger & salamanca allways look good on these cars & new paint allways looks good cyan would be the only blue i myself would consider & theres shitloads of blue lj's being built nowadays but thats just my opinion & $950 for hinges ??? $200 for a set of newly blue zinced hinges max, that's $750 more towards seats mate. I love the look of zinc bits, black engine bays no braid, just neat & clean some cars are allready doing this in show scenes just my view, best of luck mate.

The one on the lj pick is a farely new honda colour.
Not a fan of the black engine bay myself

I was banking on getting it done for toranafest, but after realising i still need to save the money for a new interior prob unlikley.

Be driveable and on the road before then though hopefully.

Engine and driveline are basicly done (except for the webbers, prob run a kit through the holley i got for the time being, if anyone knows were to get them?), might upgrade to a m21 or a 5 speed later down the track, already have a reco'd m20 so may aswell use that for now.
Diff is fine, might change the ratio of it i forget what it was now.

To get it rolling i don't think i have a lot to do, its rolling now but for the slip and everything to make it legal on road again i have a few more things to do. Also i might redo my wiring loom soon some of the wires had a few nicks and cuts in them so if anyone has some tips/ideas or if there is a kit around it would be appreciated.

So, did my money sums again i have $13025 minus the engine so $10525.
2k ahead of my original plan.....goodo.

Possibly pick the engine up on friday....Dad doesn't know if he is working then or not so yea, shame it wouldn't fit in the toyota camry.
Gonna try find my wiring loom, possibly send the dash off to get redone if anyone knows who does it?

Annnd go from there i guess

What do you mean by 'get the dash redone'?

I still can't fathom spending $15k on a $7k car...

Reco'd, some guages are broken etc.

It may only cost me 7k if i want to sell it again (if that's what you are implying) But im building it how i want it and i plan on keeping it for a very long time. You may not agree that a 4 door is worth as much as a 2 door but in the end the car will be worth more to me then a 2 door with some sentimental value attached. I know if i sell it i will probably not get back what i put into it. But that isn't the point, im not buiilding the car to sell it off to someone else i building it for myself and to enjoy it.

only 7k if you sell it tim

Goat

News:
Paid for it all over the phone just then, pick up next thursday/friday.

I realise this, I'm just a big advocate for having a crack at things before I pay someone to do it :)

Probably cheaper and better to buy a set of new gauges... Do you have a GTR dash?

Tarr might chase them up shortly or wait to see how much money the panel beaters will cost me.

Anyways found my old wiring looms. Took me about half an hour, seriously need to start finding were things are now lol.

Assuming the 2nd one is out of the car itself and the first one is the one i got with the gtr dash.
Anyways, currently looking at painless wiring looms etc, don't know if they give me enough length to hide the wires so ill prob drop them an email with a few questions and go from there.

haha yea i got about 100 caps from field days and the like.

Really want to get it finished and running soon!

Pretty happy with the colour too, im sure some people will complain though being a red engine but they can go mow the grass.

They also said it should get to 6k revs no sweat which will be good to test out.

Sounds good mate - & it's your car, you do what you want  ;)

I applaud you for sticking to your guns & saving up what you have managed to, to spend on your car the way you want. I think most of us are guilty of spending well over what the car is worth at the end of the day, but it's what we do! I think the rare thing here is that you've saved your budget first before getting well & truly stuck into it, as opposed to a lot of us (namely me) that just gets things done on the car when the funds allow.

Now get stuck in!!  :D

haha yea, had a go at the engine stand this arvo.

Warning: Terrible welding may be offensive to some viewers.

DSC_0261_zps18393759.jpg

So, this thing is basicly.....Crap put it that way, made from very thin steel (if its even steel) so i figured.....Bugger it ill start from scratch (bar the wheels etc)

DSC_0262_zps45c2ff21.jpg

Prob went a bit overboard but thats the only bit of scrap that was laying around the yard so.....Why not use it? it's free right?

DSC_0263_zps10c34830.jpg

mmm

DSC_0264_zpseffb6016.jpg

When dad see's my welding he will probably laugh and call it bird shit. HOWEVER i hit the crap out of it with a hammer with 4 taks on it and it didnt budge so safe to say it isnt going anywhere.....Just looks horrible lol.

DSC_0265_zps17f0137d.jpg

Handle end done

DSC_0266_zps7c733872.jpg

Might as well use this bit that fell off the old one its pretty thick steel compared to the rest of it.

DSC_0267_zps7a1b6678.jpg

Half looks like what it's suposed to now.

DSC_0268_zpsfed0f9eb.jpg

DSC_0269_zps93165019.jpg

WOO A TROLLEY

Keeps raining on and off so ill do the front wheels tomorrow....Now sure how im going to mount them yet. Also gotta figure out a few braces etc. Figured i would just reuse the old handles. If they break ill just wack up some new ones with my super dooper welding skills.

its about 800mm long, prob could of been less but if i put the gearbox on it then it would be so wobbly.

Think it was around 350 wide.

Anywho finished it today but.....something broke.

I wouldn't worry to much about this, it is about par with my normal hand writing.

So as for the thing that broke. To my surprise it wasn't any of my welds it was the little pissy wheel. As i was dragging it quickly back into the garage (started raining) it got caught on the lip into the shed and bent it. I might be able to straighten it if not.....bugger i guess.

As for the carpet ill cut it into strips and put over each metal part with some rivets or something (no idea were they are) and the big gap near the back is for the sump to fit into as you can see but im thinking i may need to support that in some way....

anyways, bracing will prob be like so

Still need to drill the holes for the split pins in the back handle

and decide if im going to support the sump, still got no ideas on that for the minute but ill get stuck into it again tomorrow unless the rain buggers off.

yea works alright apart from the wheel. Just sucks that i can't put it in the garage and leave it there. shelves on every wall so it will have to be moved a fair bit, hence the trolley.
