"back to the sand blasters"? Yikes!!! I don't know a lot about panel beating, but I know a few guys who do, and unless they are VERY good panel beaters they will still need to skim with bog at least. Like I said, I'm no expert. I've done most of my panel beating myself over the years with the help of the previously mentioned mates. They explained what I needed to do and gave me a quick demo, then turned me loose. Hitting things with a hammer is both fun and rewarding. But everything they showed me pretty much involved the skim of bog. Another option is spray bog, or polyester sprayable putty if you like, same thing really.

Technique= hit car with hammer and dolly, fill dings with skim of bog, rub and repeat till happy......... then spray whole of out side of car with spray bog and let dry, wet rub entire car then paint.

Result= pretty much the straightest car you could hope for.

It's not cheating because it it pretty much just a heavy primer filler and by the time it's rubbed back it's 2/5 of frock all thick and gives you a nearly dead straight base to paint. It's been known to be used to repair hail damaged cars so if the rest of it's been done right it will only be a Micky whisker thick when you spray it on anyway. I know I'm going to do it on my cars, as I intend to do the whole thing myself. Remember I'm old, you're still a teenager and I thought you guys knew everything! Hahahahahaha
But seriously, it's only paint, nothing sandpaper and patience can't fix and you seem to have a lot of patience.

I know what you mean. I'm getting itchy fingers too. I was going to take a week off about 2 weeks ago and get stuck into the car while the boss was at work and the kids at school. Plans in place and then the Sunday morning before at about 0200 (no one ever calls at 0200 with good news) my brother calls to tell me about a death in the family. That obviously comes first, so cancel one set of plans and then frantically book flights for the whole family so we can get to the funeral. I'm not looking for sympathy or anything it's just another example of how life can change any plan you make if it feels like it and usually does! Guess the best plan now is to work out exactly what I want from this car put it all on paper, photograph the shite out of the process and then just do what I can when I can, time and finances allowing. I'm not very patient either Hamo I'm just old enough now to realise that the harder I fight against things the harder they fight back. Doesn't make sitting on your hands any more comfortable though. Lol! Oh well, what I can when I can is better than selling them both because it just seems too hard. Stick with it mate, I'm sure it will be a real head turner once it's done.

weee update:

I might need to get new grease nipples for the tie rod ends, one of them is #@$^%& and the grease comes out underneath rather than filling up the bit its meant to.
Do you guys think it is worth getting non grease ones?
the other ones are a bit rusty now sitting out in the weather for a bit so if people think non grease is the way to go ill just get a full set of new ones. no big deal.

Truck driver is comming around tomorrow to see if he can fit up the driveway. His crane would prob be the only issue with the power line up the middle, but it has a 30m Reach. So im guessing he should be able to get it.

Sand blaster has cleared away the bulk of the jeep and is ready for my car.

Have about 7500 and owed a bit more, Parents might give me a bit of money if i run a little bit short.

SO HOPEFULLY it will be at the panel beaters within a month or two.
(fingers crossed)

Been delivered, be finished sandblasting within a few weeks, gonna wait until we have a weekend off and help him do it. So within 5 weeks it should be done, then to zee panel beaters.

I think i picked the panel beater, they are the ones who seemed most interested and had a farely long chat with them the others didn't really give a shit. So hopefully he can fit it in soon.

Front end is going to ray shelby (if i can find all of it) New springs wont fit into the tower etc so he will put it al back together for me and ill just bolt it up to the car.
Booked into panel beaters, they currently have 3 in the shop (corvett, ford cobra and a rod of some discription) and 1 more in the waiting list xy ford or soemthing then mines in. Soo a few months which will give me time to sandblast it and get some of the bulk panel work done.

There are a few in google images. I just did a quick lj Torana search and went to images. They don't look too bad, I'm putting mine back on though. I just think it looks.....right I guess.

Thanks.
There has been a couple of ebay recently.
Just have to try and inspect it before you buy it, which most sellers let you do these days.

Hey hamo,
The strips over the doors are just crimped over the drip rail. I pulled mine off in about 5 minutes total. There may be some adhesive under it too. I think mine were glued on from factory by the looks, but don't quote me on that. I just used a small flat blade screwdriver to pry the edge up a little and then in between the join. They don't come off very straight though, so reusing may not be an option. Replacements are everywhere though if you decide you do want them. I'm replacing them, but ditching the rest of the strips.

I think those and the chrome stip in the windscreen rubber will be plenty for me.

Cheers

Yea ill pull them off give me more of an idea of what it looks like without. Prob in need of new ones anyways so it doesn't matter if they get damaged.

Thanks moose.

Put most of the front end together and im 90% sure i have everything. (thank frOck i labled it all lol)

Going to rays tomorrow for him to sort out the spring issue. I think he has some new old stock of the lj stuff aswell used to make springs or w/e i dont know the full story.

thanks judge.

Bought the new welder today. Unimig, got the stick, mig, spool gun, tig, tig wire gas and gasless wire gas bottle etc with it.

Has a play this arvo but dad being a shit boiler maker can't remember how to set it up properly with the settings so if anyone has prefered amp volts and wire feed settings it would be appreciated. (mostly for just thin metal, basicly whats on the torana.)

Also took the front end to ray shelby, he is going to fix my stearing rack and see what he can do with the springs aswell.
