Sounds like our A or P theory on the big nut master cylinders date stamps.

James, DA for 2:78/3:08 and i think DJ is 3:36/3:55

Ok, so we have 2809395 DA for a coarse spline std 3:08 housing, how about for the lsd 3:08 coarse spline?

James,3:08 lsd c/spline WJ 2823983

Hey Anthony, that would be a c/spline 3.08lsd in a baffled diff housing (XU1 rear axle assy) would it not?

What would the rear axle assy code be for a c/spline 3.08lsd in a std diff housing?

Dave,I am sure it would be that if you ordered a lsd diff it would be baffled.

My car was built with a 3:08 lsd, but later fitted with a 3.36 fine spline lsd with baffles and after disassembling it the other day they are definitely not factory baffles. So I believe that the entire diff housing was exchanged in preparation for racing as I have receipts for an entire housing with the centre and axles.
If you got a baffled housing with a lsd from the factory then why would anyone have taken that housing out and then fitted this one with ugly welds on the baffles when they could've just swapped the axles and the centre?

So there should be non baffled lsd housing codes also.

Anthony,
My car was a "SVO " and was factory built with the driveline upgrades and due to this my ID plate with the trim details etc also lists all the driveline details, L20, M20 and G93. The VIN disc and the GMH letter also indicate the same details. The GMH letter also indicates the diff as being a 3.08 with lsd upgrade.

The current 3:36 fine spline lsd was fitted probably around 9 years ago by the previous owner.

Now that I'm at home I've checked the paperwork I have and on the BETSBAC for my car I have a "D" in the axle code and the GMH letter says "Axle: 3.08 :1Banjo type -(G93) with LSD (G80)".

Does anyone else have a green paint marking on the back of the passenger side bump stop mount? It looks to be a quality control /inspection passed type of thing.
It's probably not visible until you clean off 40 years worth of grime.

James,There is a number of inspection marks on the diff and housing. With the G80 diff option i am sure that it would be a baffled diff housing what do you think?I would say that most would be optioned on or after the 7 month 1973.

Anthony, would you care to elaborate on the inspection marks as I would like to replicate them whenever possible.
There's also a 34 stamped on the passenger side of the housing.

Hi Gary,With the diff housing stencil, Gary i would try a craft shop or hobby shop and ask for military font cards in the correct size.

Or make your own stencils using the photos in this thread as your template.

I'd assume that code relates to 6/13/73 as the production date. That code would be the one stamped on the front passenger side of the diff housing next to where the centre bolts in.

That code will have no relevance to the ratio or the axles. There would have been an code painted on the other side of the housing next to the diff centre, as shown in the photos earlier in this thread.

James, did you mean 6L3 = 6th November 1973?

Mick, if that date code is correct then that diff housing is too late to be a factory fitted XU1 housing.

If it was a spare part diff housing then it could be anything you want it to be.
