Hi Grant...
Looks good, Just need a chassis to put into... Wheres the car? I thought it was getting painted in Sep???????

Does it need repairs or just paint?
If just paint, why dont you do yourself.. After what youve done so far, it would be easy for a man like you!
Its not hard..

Mike,

I helped a lot with the the rear of the car with the new panels for the rear quarters and the A pillars and other sheet work. - there is no other repairs that are needed at all. I reckon that I spent 80 hours at least on helping out on the panel.

We are close, but the boss of the panel shop is the only one at this stage that will finish the car ready for paint, when it comes to this stage he only does the work, so I'm in the queue to get the car painted.

There was a maybe by Christmas.- we will see on this.

I have most of the stuff sorted so once I get the car it will be pretty quick to screw back together.

Update #88 - the new front bumper

got the new front bumper from Muscle Car parts in moorebank - really nice guys to deal with.

Bumper looks SMICK !

A bit of Bling Bling

One bumper down one to go !

1 more mill

Hi Grant,

I'm enjoying reading your thread. Where did you get your headlight and tail light surrounds fixed, polished and painted? They have come back looking an absolute treat!

Good luck with the rest of your restoration and maybe I'll see you out there cruising next year.
Pete

You've great determination and an awesome attitude mate....really impressive.

It makes up for the complete shit you are being dealt by others not named. I feel for you mate - unacceptable.

Keep up the good attitude - can't wait to see your car!

why is it i feel somethings gone wrong at this panel shop??? not another rip off panel shop i hope?

hear is a story for you grant
when i used panel shops to do resto work for me, i would do all the metal work myself drop the car to them to bog-prep and paint and i would still walk out feeling like i had just been raped.

the best answer was to keep doing my rust and refit work getting all gaps and lines right the get a master prep man to come and do the prep work at home and pay him a real good hour rate, then you will still save thousands,,,,

take care mate and keep your chin up
remember just 1mm at a time and if i can help in anyway just let me know.

cheers gong

Hence why I didnt even think of takin my car to a repairer.. I cant trust them.. My rebuild may not be perfect.. At least I have control and dont feel shafted..
My thoughts..

John,

I'm going to keep quiet on this matter until it's all over and then the truth will come out, if it's good bad or ugly. Lets put it this way " I don't have a business repairing cars that requires a GOOD reputation to sustain work coming in through the door" .

I'm just a end of line consumer/ customer. if any one wants a reference to this panel shop give me a call on 0401816661 and I will be happy to discuss the current situation and how the current operator runs his business and your car whilst it's there..

Mike we are still moving forward, sometimes you have to go back to move forward.

I need to do some house cleaning.

G'day Grant, just read the entire thread and really enjoyed the build so far.

One question for you though concerning the motor you're using. I'm planning on putting a black 202 into an LJ and was under the impression that NSW rego required all the emission gear from the replacement engine to be installed. Things like vapour canister and EGR valve etc. Will you be fitting this gear for the blue motor or is there some way around this requirement that I've not come yet come across?

Cheers,
Steve.

Hi Steve,

my understanding was that it's the car year make and model that determine the emissions stuff and not the motor type.

Could be wrong though

I'm pretty sure you have to comply with the ADRs for the motor. But then again are they that clever?

Yeah, Judge is right afaik.

You have to abide by the emissions ADR for the car or the motor, whichever is newer.

Thats what i was going to say, but im not sure if they are smart enough to check if it has 3.3 on the block or use the prefix to find out. But then again i spoke to one of the managers in the records department of the NSW RTA and he didnt believe me when i said that i could identify a motors type just from it's prefix.

I like this one, I guess the only place it would be picked up would be during a blue slip inspection and then only if they did cross reference the prefix. Not sure if they do this or not but the red paint might just be sufficient. ;)

now being notified that each day the dispute goes on it will cost me $30 storage.

so each day i am going to ADD thirty dollars to this thread and add up the dollar amount as a protest to this panel shop !
Last friday was the start and today it's

Total = $150 dollars on top of the over priced work done so far !

Go in with a tray truck and get your car back.
Take a few mates and even a local copper if you know one you can call on.

lets just say the requested bill is nearly double what was agreed to in verbal and in writing backing up a meeting

when i questioned the bill;

"I was told to come and pay the bill and pick up the car and in the same breath come and see me to sort it out !

I have tried three separate offers to the panel shop which I believe are well and truly over and above where the car is in it's current shape. all of these offers have been refused and rejected by the operator.

the car needs about 4k - 8 K at least worth of work done to put paint on it.

so i have lodged the dispute with the CTTT to resolve and have a hearing date on the 17th January 2012

Believe you me I have tried to resolve this with payment of a " reasonable " amount

.

Spoke to a friend who is in the force and he has provided some assistance to me in this area, but i have to do this the right way. I have plenty of people who are lining up behind me on this one.

thanks for the guys who have rung and offered advice and support in dealing with this it's appreciated.

today the storage bill has come to $240.

don't deal with this company at all.

I could go on but i wont in an open forum and after the last email to me he had the hide to " wish me a merry christmas "

your dead set kidding us right ??? i was thinking chrissy was just around the corner, not april fools day, if you still have your tags witch i would think so get the cops to go get your car mate that is theft, and the fellar you are dealing with has is name and buissness published on this forum??? h-g smash repairs aint it, whats going on??? please give more details so other members dont get burnt by this buisness

see mike i told you your better of doing every thing you can yourself the main reson i started many years ago.

here is a bit of info for you grant, when you asked me to restore your car at toranafest a couple of years ago, i was thinking 20k but the reason i never told you that or took on your job was that how do you say that to a bloke and his dream, and now the problem you have is noi one can or will give you a warrenty on the paint work unless you let them start again, so how much have you offered or paid this bloke???

this is why i say every time you leave a panel shop you should go strait to and engine builder and get your asshole re sleeved ready for the next panel shop.

cheers gong

I've followed this thread for ages and your passion is so obvious from your posts.

What has transpired to us reads like total bullshit. It's just not fair on a bloke.
Best of luck. It sounds like you're waiting until Jan 17....christ I hope you win.
What's the best possible outcome from the courtcase for you?
What's the worst possible outcome?

If anyone here can offer legal advice, maybe a few PM's are in order?
