I'm another person on here who is glad your project is back on track Grant. One thing I have noticed is that you have a Repco oil filter on your motor. Please get rid of it before your wind it over and fit a genuine Holden one or a Ryco. The Repco filter won't filter much and they don't have an anti drainback valve either.

Hey mate, sorry to hear about all your hassle with the panel shop, I'm glad she's back in your hands.

I'm so keen to see your car painted, I have a lime green metallic lj gtr myself, the paint is a bit faded so I'm anxious to see the original colour as from factory! Are you getting it painted acrylic or 2pac?

Update #90

Well my brain needed some down time from the car after the last few months but today as " BIG KEV" would say " I'M EXCITED "

There has been a few matters turning in the background and they are;

new clutch - exceedy

few new hose clamps from rares

carby linkages - rear parcel shelf and kick panels from brad merrick

got the second boot edges sandblasted

stone tray also blasted

The car is off to the new panel shop today and this feels like a new start to the project.

So today is another step forward again.

Well done Grant, back into it! I got the impression you were keeping a low profile & can understand you wanting to get your head around everything before you carried on with it.

GAME ON!!!....

Good to hear you are back into it and hope you have a better result from this panel shop and hopefully he takes progress pics for you (and us) to keep a record (wish Tony would hurry up with mine).

Hi Grant colour looks good inside floor shouldn't be black though mate. Don't know how fussy you want to be but contact me if you want mate.  & if you have'nt purchased you clutch set up yet i run a extreme in my clubby t56 ripshift of course can handle 310 rwkw & deadset it's like driving with a standard clutch, i could not recomend this brand enough for maybe $200 more + they do their own tough flywheels & arp bolts anyway i will be watching updates closely, what brand of paint are they using? looks really good, Gary.

Gaz,

The floor was not a big issue for colour for me. i did do some discussions with different guys about clutch options, most said that the humble rat trap would struggle with an excessive spring pressure with a hybrid eg V8 springs with normal plates.

I paid $158 for a equal to the Xu1 model in the exeedy. I just wanted to put it in and see how it went, if it shit it self then I would upgrade - i'll how it goes.

John - yeah the car will be a few months away for painting as there is still a lot of fix up work that needs to be rectified with past work that I'm not that happy with,  the lines on the car have errors in certain areas.

The colour was not correct as it's " more yellow " and the metal flake was bigger in the paint so I'm told by the spray painter. The spray painter got the rep out with the colour samples to compare the original colour in acrylic and the new paint to ensure that the colour was correct prior and also to check " his mix" as seen on the parcel shelf. His mix is correct..

Hi Grant, some people might not release but sanding & painting a small area like the new shop has done happens quite fast but after the outside is fixed primed with high build sunk & dried it will most probably take a week to block properly but doing this & taking the time as i'm sure you yourself are aware will give the best "longer lasting" results especially on a metalic paint job. So it's good to see your patience mate you'll be happier in the long run. & i didn't know how particular you wanted the painting mate! I hope that the clutch works well anyway but yeah my friend & myself will definitely be running the extreme xu1 clutch only because i know how good the are & the clamping load change is @ the the clutch it's self not the compentry if i lived near you i'd bring my clubsport around & give you a drive. But this car is going to be very nice when finished i still remember it being for sale & good to see another special car rescued not tubbed gutted & v8 powered ect. Gary.

ERRR yes Grant, seems funny that you can paint an engine bay without the battery tray in, so will have to now sort this out and get the battery tray fitted and then touched up. spoke to another guy who got his car painted there and he say's that his XU1 also was painted in the engine bay without the battery tray !- go figure. rocket science ?

UPDATE # 92 - huston we have a steering column !

Dropped off the fuel tank, second boot , stone tray , bob tail to the painter.

Picked up the other window stuff as steering column

Ok, so spent the arvo in the man shed to put back the steering column.

it's not that tricky but there is one part that if you have removed the ignition pot for painting you will have trouble re assebling this with the compression of the spring.

as photos tell a thousand words you need only the following part,

a 3/4 to what ever the next size up plumbing fitting is.

Grind off a part of the 3/4 end and smooth out the lip in the end of the fitting so it slips over the steering shaft .

use a spanner and also the steering nut to compress the spring

slip the cir clip into position and then release the tension on the nut then create a space and then ram home the circlip

I could not help a bit of testing of the steering wheel

It looks brand new.

one more mill
