Start her up big guy.

Nate's pretty keen to get it all sorted and take it for a drive. He will probably have his licence by the time it's all finished Ha!

update # 93 - the front quarter window re assembly

One of the biggest challenges facing any person doing a car restoration is " where the F#%K did i put that F@#%$@king thing, I just had it in my F#$%#king hand and put it down for a F#%#$5ing second and cannot F#$%#king find it " F@#%$K it .

AHH yes the cry from the shed. Well it's starting to happen at my place and a bit like above.

so did a bit more on Sunday arvo and got the window back together with minimal fuss AND finally found all the little bits that go with this window.

I'm piZZed off as the new rares rubber that i got in a " full kit " has a defect in one of the rubbers for this quarter window and they have no stock left and cannot supply a replacement part. will not be available till June as the tooling broke " F#%$#%K it , F#%#$K me !, what the F#%#$k are they thinking no quarter window rubbers for F#%$#ing 4 months !

so now i have to ring around all the rares suppliers and see if there is a rubber in someones F#%$#$king shop in another state !

Rares - cannot do a car up without them " quote un quote " F%$@#k

was going to go with the company called better auto rubber, but decided to use rares in stead in case there was issues with the product. should have used the other guys. F#%#k it !

I had to wait a while for rares to get me a front valance. After 2 months and nothing i went somewhere else (they had about 10 in stock). They don't have very good buisness skills these days. Atleast when i've delt with them they haven't. I gotta get new rubber for my car soon, the rest of their rubbers no good?

Cars comming together good though, MORE PICS!

Hayden,

not sure but rares in on back order and the kits will not be ready for 5 months , so rares in not an option at the moment. try the guy from better auto rubber.

the problem i have now is that the other side may be different and I don't want to swap the rares one.

Lucky Green....more likely lucky they don't a swear jar on this forum  :stirpot:

Keep up the great work Grant

yep there was some swearing on sunday when i found out that the rubber was damaged.

But let me know if you need me to check buddy. I think my friend got some rubbers from betta auto rubbers, i think that's what they're called. Good to see your getting the sh#ts mate because i was begining to think you weren't normal being so relaxed lmao, wish mine was @ that stage. Did you find out what brand of paint there using yet mate? 2 pack on everything i take it? Gary.

Isn't there a joint called Bill Thompson auto rubbers, I coulda sworn that's where mine came from. Some of em were in rare spares packets so I don't know if they make em for rares or how it works, I do remember em being cheaper though.

They would buy the ones in Rare Spares packets from Rare Spares.

John.

could be soon - it's getting blocked back and the moment and fixing the lines up.

Yep,

it's just a bugger that i have to pull out both of the rubbers and then go to the shop to dispute this and then get a refund on both AND then go to better and buy theirs and also postage.

i'm going to try to do it over the phone with photos tomorrow.

had a mad weekend at the Phillip island historic races with the Club ( gtr and xu1 owners ) top trip down.

heaps of racing and really recommend the weekend

Hey john,

Flat out at work at the moment and have left all the work with the panel shop, which have been giving me updates on all the bits and pieces.

both rear quarters needed fixing again for lines. It's been blocked back in 240 at this stage all over.

Last of the parts have been painted. At this stage i'm not in that much of a hurry as I'm flat out at work. Torana Fest is the next gig to try and make it to.

ordered some new number plates as all of the other plates were taken  so got the following plates that were order yesterday in black and white

72 B GTR - pretty stoked with this purchase.

1 more mill

yep,- b stands for brisbane

my car  build plate is 10/72 so trying to get anything close to this requires a special cost and all the current Number first plates have been taken up.

so gtr 72b was gone, so when the " numbers first " came out  i just reversed it. i tried to by this plate off a car that was for sale about a year ago but it never happened. funny the torana that this plate was on was a xu1 mock up and not even a gtr.

so 72b gtr it is now.

Update #94 - rear window re assembly

Well I had the following;

1) advice on the rubber thickness 1/32"

2) the window surrounds - all painted

3) the method in my head - when over and over the approach

4) did a test run on the short frame side - it worked

5) applied the " rares rubber spay "

What when wrong;

Well the rubber fitted the short side, but it was not tight but it seemed the right fit

then started to mould the rubber the whole way around and get the shape - see the photos and you get the picture.

slowly removed the pegs and sprayed the whole rubber with the rares rubber spray.

slipped the frame onto the glass and instead of " hey presto " the larger frame was not as tight on the rubber tape.

I got 1/32 and it depends on the amount of paint that the frame has

I then doubled it up and this should give me about 1/16.

so i need to order another role.

bugger

1/32 0.03125 3/64 0.046875 1/16 0.0625

PS; if you powder coat your frames you need the 1/32 if you just paint then either go 3/64( probably the right size)  or 1/16 will be really tight.

Update # 95 1 more mill with the paint shop

there has been a few things going on but we are getting closer. the car has been getting it's final block and also the there was some final checks of the lines on the car and some rectification works.

But we are  more mill closer.

just thought that i would post a picture of where we started.
