Hi Grant, looking awesome mate, can't wait to see your gtr badges on grille ect. in & wheels painted silver hint hint on the last one :) Just wondering if you've seen the boot badge question on lc/lj yet ? hope it helps your boot hole position. Maybe you should put up a photo of the car at the time of purchase below a present one so others can see just how much you've achieved. It's a true credit to you mate. Gary.

PS - don't buy a car in pieces -  OK CHECK !

Ok so the brake booster bracket, the one i got painted is toooo high - back to stage one - got the original one off the 4 door - DOH ! there is different ones with different height.- see photo they look the same but are clearly off a HG maybee ?

Put the pedal box back in - check - no dramas - you need to drill a hole and compress the spring as per the photo and F%#%$#%King Bingo it works

Put the little angles back in the windows - check no dramas

I have four days to of FULL torana HEAVEN starting today

PS - can someone tell me WTF the rubber thing is that is to block up the hole in the picture where the rod goes through the fire wall - in the manual there is a rubber gromit - I dont have this in my shit !

Dane

thanks for that,

- would have thought for $1k big ones the bloody fire wall shit would have come with the full rubber kit.

in fact will check now in the garage  .

i'll tell you the rares story;

the quarter window rubbers were really poor - swapped them for " better auto rubber" - fit like a dream

bought two handbrake cables $90 big ones - they send out a set with " yellow rubber " insulators where they go through the lower rear control arms.

i have spent two days fighting rares sydney as they have said " AAAWWWW no i have never seeEEEEEEN any LJ/LC handbrake cables with YELLLLLOW rubber !

i say well here is the receipt and here is the photo - you guys sent it out in the post  as part of my $1200 dollar buy with your guys

they were rude on the phone, wouldn't give me an email to send the photo to as verification just so i had a point of further discussion.

would only accept an invoice number. no problem with the invoice no and found it.

spoke to them today and said that if  returned them to the shop  then they will now replace. - these items were sent as they didn't have any in stock at the time i bought the kit

buying my  Rares stuff of QLD mob to finish the car.

you will see the yellow in the photo in the corner

dane -  i have to place an order next week and will call lance on this.

the rubber boot for the brake lever is in the bottom of the box.- so I have this.

let me clarify a few things on my post as stuff gets out of hand on the net.

the rares front  quarter window rubbers were faulty - i called american auto's they didn't have a replacement set, ( these were in the full rubber kit branded rares) could not get a replacement set, they  told me to try another rares seller, I said give " give me my money back " so i got my money back and then bought " better auto rubber ones"..

When i talk about rares - I mean American auto's staff were rude and would not give an email - after heaps of back and forth they gave it to me and then sent all the, photos and  info they needed, this was the third time i had rang up to talk to them about the issue and didn't want to waste my time in driving 1 hour for them to tell me " yes they are yellow"

just pi%%ssed me off a bit with the whole rubber kit and handbrake cables issues

Problem,

put both the quarter windows in yesterday and one went in fine, the other i'm having problems with the top of the window.

See the photo it shows that the window will not it up tight.

is this normal, would not seem so as the other one sit's up tight.

I am going to pull back out today and double check that there is no rivets left ,

anyone else had problems with this area

PS; had to pull the other one out as the rubber was not sitting right as well.

one of the doors is a LC and one is a LJ the LC one seems to be wider in the channel than the LC.

would this also be because the LC had a different top detail to the LJ ?

Fairly normal manufacturing tolerances for these old cars Grant.

My LJ 1/4 windows are exactly the same. Drivers side fits great, passenger side has that same gap.

Just make sure the channel of the door window frame doesn't have any crud build up that would prevent the 1/4 window frame from seating in properly.

John , Dave,

it was a combination of a few things and here is what i did,

Pulled it out for the 5 time

tapped down the frame in the right direction - not the paint side

filed down the pop rivets

filed down the " burred edge where the screw goes into" the frame

= NO GAP

I suppose this is what they call fitting the car up, I also had to ease off the quarter window rubber where the bottom spigot goes through the frame.

Both the drivers side and the passengers side fit like a dream now - lot of mucking around but i'm happy and only put one small paint scratch on the door ( black part) that needs a touch up..

the real problem was the hole the old screw made as it was really raised.

the front quarter windows are tricky little buggers to get right.

N/A on the LC to LJ .

Now you only have to remove them one more time to install the windows.

Install all the internal door hardware, exterior handle and key lock , then lower the window glass into the bottom of the door, refit the 1/4 windows and align the glass into the bailey channel and install the 1/4 window fixing screws. Then lift the glass up and engage the regulator and temporarily install the window stop/buffer at the bottom of the door. Now you can adjust the 1/4 window via the fixing screws to give the best window winding operation.

Next step is remove the window stop, drop the glass back down to the bottom of the door and install the inner and outer belt weatherstrips. You're going to love this job, NOT.

Don't forget to contact cement the bailey channel into the run channels.

Cheers

Dave.
