Hi Grant,

Keep in mind that without the self adjusters you might get knocked at RWC time.

Hi

See below. The gasket is critical, otherwise water will sit permanently behind the boot catch area (and cause a rust hole like the one I had).

Cheers

Bazza

Never knew they had a Gasket, who sells the gasket ????????

Hi Dave,

You seem to be a expert in the mechanic's.

In my field of mechanics of 30 years or more,my field was, brakes, steering and suspension, and you believe what a book says to you.In theory the book is saying you use your depress foot pedal while reversing backwards.

On torana rear brakes its a little different, the handbrake leaver on the inside facing the backing plate, conects to the brake shoe, which on the other side is the automatic self adjuster, which works of the reaction arm, to the self adjuster, when appling the handbrake while going reversing backwards does adjust the brakes up.

Regards John.

I see your point John, theoretically, either method will work for adjusting the rear brakes, however there is no need to use the handbrake as depressing the brake pedal performs the same operation with the benefit of the front brakes applying also.

God knows that when driving at speed in reverse you need every bit of braking effort you can get.

Update #103 Another day another problem solved

OK so I found out in this tread http://www.gmh-toran...e-goes-through/ that you cannot get the rubber grommets for the heater cable.

so went to PLAN B - the local ford wrecker

Found these and they all fit like a glove - problem solved only they belong to a ford and not a Holden, they wreck everything else but Holden !

so if you need these grommets to put in your fire wall you can get them off a ford wrecker - DOH !

Not sure of which rubber style/ look is the correct look but if someone has a photo can they put up so I can get as close as possible.

Chris,

  • I'm sort of stuck for the following reasons;
  • need to change the front  cross member
  • the engine builder has two race cars there
  • they have their own issues and i cannot get this hoist
  • the engine and drive line will go in as well when there

Apart from that, I've got no mates, three kids, babysitting the friends dog, building a yabby tank for nate, misses just went away on a five day holiday, don't have " reversing depress pedal " super duper brake rear  adjusters, my Man cave is rally cold this time of the year and before my missus went she gave me a list of SHIT five miles long that i have to do while she is gone !!

Apart from that, I'm fine !

But yesterday I - got that grommet  and that put a smile on my face !

Bro, I swear that If your not at Torana fest I'll see you at the nationals

John, I'm interested to find out if you can get the grommet off without tearing it, cutting it or cutting the cable and casing.

Cheers

Dave.
