Need a bit of help with the stormberg needles and numbering.
the car is running really rich and because the carbies were a mixture, Im not sure of the needles in the carbies . So im just going to organise a new set of needles.
apparently there are two types for the xu1 type engine , does anyone know the numbers ?
thanks G

Not sure what carbs you are using, the 150's had "6E" needles & the 175's had "6D" fitted.

Awesome stuff, its a Goer

Grant I have tuned several cars now with these 175 carbies all had different mods to the motor.
I used the 6D needles in all of them and used the factory mixture settings and all tuned up really nice.
I have a set of 6D needle hear you can lone if you want just to try them and get the car running right until you run the motor.
You have my number.
cheers Dane

Ok,
So i drove it from the mechanics to the pedders, and it's a cranky little thing to say the least.
It's had the wheel alignment and all good.
It's now at the panel shop getting the boot and bonnet fitted.
pick up the new plates and put on the car as well, SWEEET
I'll make it to T fest , but there will be stuff that's not finished , the first bloke that sticks his head around the car and says " that's not original " I'm gona bash him !

The springs under the top cover should have no paint on their ends which indicates a light duty spring, I assume this help make the engine more responsive. Some of the other springs have paint at one or both ends. Red = heavy. Blue = medium. Natural/no paint = light. The genuine set of 72 XU-1 carbs I have here have no paint on the springs.
I think I remember ready a long time ago that 73 Bathurst models had revised needles but the rest of the LJ XU-1's are 6D as already mentioned.
I can't wait to check out your car at Toranafest, well done you must be a very happy man at the moment.

thanks James for the info very much appreciated.
Grant get used to those types mate even when it's finished. If I had a dollar for every guru who wanted to tell me that this is not original and that is not how the LC GTR was. My general response is "I couldn't give a f*ck mate, let's go and have a look at your car". 95% of theses types benerally don't even have a classic car.
You car is looking sensational. I am wishing I had have made the trek to Toranafest. Maybe 2014??
Macka,
come to the nationals in SA at Easter
guys thanks for the comments.
friday - we now have a boot and a bonnet - thanks Grant Jurd - your a legend mate I cannot thank you enough.
I drove home from the panel shop last night on 1/4 throttle as it was not set up correctly, i added the fuel pressure gauge and reduced the fuel to about 3 pound , after speaking to Warren about pressure and being rich , thanks warren for your time.
Sent 2lc's a spark plug photo reading today and it's maybe a tad lean , but the carbies need further set up work and James , thanks for the info on the springs and needles as well.
FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARK ,i fixed the accelerator linkage to open the butterfly's full and FAAARK me , MAN DOES IT HAVE SOME STICK and PULLS like a 15 year old boy !, I'm stoked with the motor
I'm going for a fathers day cruise tomorrow as a present to myself.
thanks guys for your advice and help it's appreciated.
