chris that's a great sign " barry jackpot " , sound's like a bingo name !

Anyway update #71 - good year 1971 holden finally made a bit of a weapon with the August CK xu1

back to business, well what's doing this week.
1) the interior door cards arrived from prostich so that's one more part down
2) still waiting on reg at muscle car for the visors
3) vin wire is still making the loume wiring harness

I have to sort out a clutch for the car
Need to order a rubber kit and I'm not quiet sure if i should go with Better Auto Rubber or Rares ( subject to door clarification ) the price is the same nearly - so if anyone has bought off better auto rubber let me know

On the weekend I'm going to send all the brake lines and also the fuel lines to be re made.

Also will re assemble the diff and put the brakes together on the rear of the car.

one more mill

On the look out for some 5.5 wide wheels as I only have 4.5 off the old girl.

Update #72 - great year 1972 as the torana won bathurst, they made my car at Brisbane

Well what's doing or has been doing.

1) i bought some new wheels for the car - great 5.5 powder coated rimes with 95% rubber for $350 i think that it's bloody cheap and I pick these up soon so there is a saving here
2) some new engine mounts have arrived
3) I have repaired the full rat trap clutch from front to back with eg from pedal clevis pin to clutch lever out of the gearbox all tight as a nun !
4) the visors have been done by muscle car trimmers
5) OH and found the front spring insulators in my old tool box - so stoked there - after i chopped up my daughters trike wheel to make a set ( not happy jan )
Still in panel shop hell

lost the momentum this month with stuff, but have just done somethings

one more mil forward

I feel your pain on the panel beater side of things. I took a freshly expoy sealed shell and all the paint to mine " no worries three weeks" it was six months and three grand more than the original quote not happy. Get going son Bathurst isn't that far away. As a rough guide providing everything is restored sitting there waiting to go on the car allow about three weeks for assembly if you're still going to work everyday. That's not silly rushed just doing it all at a good pace and getting it right.

Now get cracking.

Update #73 - the car has some new shoes !

Well not much happening here as we are close to a full hold up on work , I'M STILL IN PANEL SHOP HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!. I just cannot believe that I have completed MOST things and the car at the shop has not progressed at all.

Anyway the latest update for the car is the wheels and here they are, really good buy for the price all done with new tyres that have not been on the road.

really cannot believe that the rims are 5.5 inch and they were just around the corner from my mums place 50 klms away

Update # 74 - the sunvisors and the re chroming parts

ARRRRRHHHH, I'm still in panel shop hellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, quote " yep no worries I'll have the car ready, BLAH BLAH BLAH !!!! - they should just tell the truth and not lie to people or bull shit to them about time.

OK now i feel a bit better, but tomorrow I'm going to pick up that phone and call him again and get a solid answer on time.

so not much to report from last time apart from the following;

1) got my visors back from reg at muscle car trimmers, if your not in a hurry then expect three months but am really happy with the result, they are not like the seam welded old ones, but hey who can get a decent pair for a reasonable price, $160 delivered back to the door OR over $400 for a set on ebay if you can get them. they look really nice and tidy and he painted the parts as well, and here is SAM modeling my new visors

2) also bought the kids a motor bike to start riding on with a local club - go the Pee Wee - near indestructable

3 ) sent off the following items to vinneys in melbourne - rear quarter window locking arms and also the front quarter windows for re chroming

If bathurst is going to happen then there needs to be a miracle with the panel beater, and given upto date performance I just cannot see this happening.

chris - yeah it goes great and even lugs me around, I'm thinking of selling my motard and getting a dirt squirter again, missus is not that impressed with the whole new boys days that are about to occur, nice work with your car it turned out great top marks on that one

Mike - i really wish that i was doing my car from here on in, but i just don't have that skill, it was really fun doing all the panel work and getting it to that stage, but the next stage is really where the rubber hits the road, I have a back up plan if it does not go forward, but a trip to bathurst starting to look like a 50% target. But we will keeping pushing on.

credit to your car re build your getting there.

thanks boys for the gee up on this.

Update # 75 - what rubber you need to re seat the glass in the rear quarter windows

Ok so here is the rubber you need, you get it from america and can search it on ebay. Great guys to deal with and no problems at all.

so these directions are second hand and i cannot vouch for this yet as i cannot get the frames painted BUT it's like this;
use a fly screen roller wheel to push the rubber into the window frame
THEN slip the glass into the metal frame with the rubber in the channel

Then use a cutter to cut off the excess rubber, this is where the pizza cutter comes in

This info is direct from Zoob on the Gtr xu1 fourm - thanks peter or sunbusrt GTR

Have you told the panel beater that the car is needed for the Bathurst event?

Dude, I'm surprised you're getting anything done with a motard sitting there damn those things are fun. A mate was racing the nationals round 07 and I got the chance to go out a coupla times, ridiculous fun.

I feel your pain on the panel shop thing, it's so frustrating.

Im not surprised it takes a bit to get panel beaters motivated to do resto work.. Its fiddly, and Im sure they make more cash doing smash repairs..
Keep the presure on them..
Any window rubber left over.. Ill have some for my windows :)..

Seems there are a few people who might need to eat their words?

Hopefully with the above intervention, people will stop gossiping and more to the point, focus on the car instead :)

In all fairness i don't think anyone knew the affiliation between the panel shop and the forum? Maybe they did but in the case it was not mentioned people are just having a dig based on what they are told so i probably would too much offence as people are just whinging to make the OP feel better, regardless of whether he is in the right or wrong. i guess we can only give people the benefit of the doubt sometimes.

WOW - what happened yesterday !

thanks Craig,

I'll just hijack the post back and set a few things straight !

a) I really didn't think that the car would be ready in any shape or form as i only have about 70 days and counting
B) yes it was a rusted mess but Sarda - Glenn and myself have put in a lot of work into this car
c) yes is was a mess and with a lot of effort by Sarda and myself it's back together
d) yes i understand as of Friday that the car needs the Diff and the front end and this will be out there on Wednesday for fitting - i did call him
e) yes the car has been re built and not without effort from all parties and if Glenn pulls this off then great.

I can say that i didn't ask for external comments from other parties and feel that some of these comments should be deleted and I will contact the forum admin today and request that they are taken down as I feel that they are " not in the spirit " nor fair.

I will ask you all that personal comments not be posted again, some things are better kept off open air forums.

If you all read most of the posts I have commented positively on work done by the shop and what a mammoth jobs it's been.

my beef was with communication - timing and promises.

signing off for now !

the COUNT DOWN HAS BEGUN 70 DAYS AND COUNTING !

the new signature "70 days and counting " tomorrow it will be " 69"
