Well its getting very close in my resto to fit the decals to the guards and bobtail looking at the workshop manual it gives you a diagram of the placement of them. The front guard diagram shows you that the decals front gos in line with the edge of the first flute and it says for the height .75 from the bottom of the decal, dose that mean .75 of an inch or 3 quarters of an inch???
cheers Dane

I went through the same dilemma. The diagram of placement by Holden is only correct if you use a genuine decal. The reason being the 3/4 of an inch is taken from the bottom of the backing tape not the XU1 decal therefore the XU1 decal is actually higher than 3/4 of an inch. It only works out correct if the XU1 decal is in the correct position in relation to the backing tape. Hope this made some sort of sense.

Cheers Dave

Aldo I wish I had a scanner but I don't but the way I see it in the LJ Workshop manual is for the front fender it shows a diagram of 2 arrows facing together one is on the line of the guard and the other is inline with the bottom of the decal, then reads .75.So I'm reading this as the gap between the line on the guard and the bottom of the decal is 3/4 of an inch.
cheers Dane
P.S If anyone can scan the diagram in question would be appreciated.

Hi Dave the way I see it is the diagram shows the decal only, so this would mean that the bottom of the decal and the line of the guard is .75.I could be wrong. :dontknow:

Hi all

I have 5 NOS XU-1 decals and I have measured the distances from the bottom of the peel off part to the bottom of the actual XU-1 decal. The distances vary from 0 mm to 5 mm. This implies that the .75" is the distance from the line to the bottom of the actual decal.

Cheers

Hey Dane, I read it the same as Bazza. The measurement is from the guard crease line to the bottom of the actual XU1 decal not the edge of the backing paper.

bazza i have at least 40 genuine nos stickers and they are approx 5 to 7 mil ,same as yours, i dont want dane to put the stickers on the wrong height,
the problem is that .75 is absolutly correct if u own an LC or early72 LJ xu1,i measured the sticker on my 9/71 bath xu1 which is totally unrestored and it measures .75
i then measured 2 of my 73 xu1s again both unrestored cars, one a 5/73 the other is a 9/73and it measures approx 7 to 8 mil as for the later 72 xu1 that i cant answer, i can make a ph call if need be,
dane i hope this helps u i can send u photo if want,
regards aldo

Hi sorry about not getting the photos up yesterday as the camera leed got lost, so i picked a new memory card today,
these are the 2 unrestored xu1s, the photo of the lone o ranger is the LC bathurst 9/71 and the photo of the sunburst is the LJ 5/73 as u can see
i have put a tape measure so u can see for your self. even the rear bob tail sticker is placed differently from LC to LJ if you cant read the measurements
i will print them up for you,
Regards Aldo
