Shame you're in QLD, otherwise I might be interested in the van in the background.

Are you going with a HZ replica sandman or WB sandman replica (holden did build a WB Sandman prototype but it never made production)

The WB prototype would most likely have been a HJ or possibly HX with WA or WB panels. Just like the WA Kingswood sedan in South Australia.

It's in the Birdwood motor museum. To describe it in terms that most will recognise - A HJ Statesman body with WB Kingswood front panels. I've got photos of it at home, will post up a few when i'm at home.

That would be worth a good long look. The phrase "you learn something new every day" just slapped me in the face with a fish! ive never heard of a wa holden. very interested.

I'm trying to remember the specifics but I think WA was originally intended to follow HJ, Dr Terry might expand on this if he reads it. Which would have given us T (Gemini), U (Torana), V (Commodore) and W (Holden) sized vehicles. GMH stuffed this up a little and called 4cyl Toranas U and normal Toranas V but from LH and HJ you see this info reflected on the BODY plate (eg in Torana - 8VC69, and in Holden 8WM69). Once UC and VB were released it was all fixed up and we had T, U, V and W sized vehicles available. The WA was meant to be a complete fullsize range just like HQ-HJ, and the Kingswood sedan was obviously going to be a mid wheelbase variant and not the short wheelbase variety like it (and the coupe) were in HQ-HX. The "WB" Sandman that gets talked about was probably a WA like the Kingswood at Birdwood. Again i'm not sure on the specifics but I think WA was supposed to be released instead of HX and HZ, and then WB would follow. I don't know what was in mind for the WA Statesman, since the WA Kingswood (and presumably the Premier also) were to use the HJ Statesman body. Possibly it was always going to look like the WB Statesman ended up as?

The WB Sandman prototype iv seen pics of just looked like a normal WB ute with normal painted WB mirrors (not the GTS syle ones)and the wheels were the Statesman SL/E style ones. Pics in Streetmachine early 2000ish.

As above, it will have probably been a WA prototype. If it had N67 rims it was possibly a HZ Sandman with WA front panels as N67 rims were standard on HZ Sandman from around mid 1978 when they replaced the N66 (GTS) rims. People often call N67 rims SL/E rims but they are really GTS/Sandman alloy rims as they were first seen in 14" on HZ GTS, XX7 and XU3, and not used until 1979 on SL/E when it was released. They appeared around the same time in 1978 in 13" on UC, Gemini and 15" on VB.

Top bit is, base is different. You can convert WB Kingsood mirrors to remote type using TG Gemini internals.

So was the WA a prototype that didnt make it? A base model statesman or a new model Kingswood?

Also different rear bar to normal Statesman, looks like a wagon rear bar. I'd really like to know what is on the compliance plates, or at least what the firewall looks like so I could pick if it is HJ or HX.
