The Gong is the winner,

Great work,i kept showing the bits needed, and you picked it straight up.

as you could imagine, its had some paint repairs, been bumped around i would guess. I found it interesting that the boot was gloss black, read oxide shows the in scratches.

Current owner fitted this suspension when he purchased ,other springs in shed,he also had the other horn in a box of bits, looked new, with correct date code,i,d say was removed early to lighten car maybe.

I think this is an ALJ with 16. BLJ started at the start of '73 or was it during 12/72? I don't have enough HQ's recorded to nail the ADR change to a month or mid month timeframe, I just have the CHQ to DHQ change Dec-Jan compliance. Torana and Holden didn't have an ADR revision at '72-'73 model year change though, but in other years it did happen at or close eg HQ-HJ series change, HX-HX series change

11/72 build Torana will be ALJ chassis prefix. The info I have so far indicates BLJ started around mid December 72, however ADR 10B was not recorded on the compliance plates until Jan 73.

Same as HQ Dave, would be good to know exactly when. Xmas break started just after mid Dec so maybe they started DHQ/BLJ after the Xmas break or even for cars intended to be completed in 1973?

hi craig

the big give away was the clear front lenses and the cut out in the guards, when you put these two together on a original car it becomes very close to a change over.

cheers gong

Hey Neil,

made a bit of fun out of it for a change.

Hi Grant,

The search is on,make sure you share with us.

Just showing this one again, the extra hole near compliance ,was for bonnet pins. Also  roll cage holes in parcel shelf.

In the boot was the tail light surrounds, that were on the car when he bought it,he got brand new ones and fitted, the old ones are painted gloss black between lights and a satin black around lens cut outs.

There is a difference for sure.

Anyways yesterday on my RDO i,m scratching around at home, next the dog is going ballistic ,and i have visitors ,these guys tracked me down through word of mouth.

Once i realise they were genuine good people gave them a look around, they thought they were in paradise and gave me a lot of praise,we entered the shed and the excitement was a laugh. Then this story, his brother bought a 73 XU1 new, then sold for a L34 ,after the problems with box and diff, bought an XU1 again.I found that interesting,as i want a L34.He himself had a Juniper GTR ex highway patrol, and thought our XU was amazing.

This is what they had come for,and will be returning here for many panels they want, for friends also.

I know stuff all about the differences in little Toranas, but I reckon there is a hint in dating it in the shot of the front wiring harness.

That's a pretty clean humpy shell by the looks of it Craig.

Yes it's the indicator wiring harness, 2 wires = 1972 with clear lenses.

2 wires going to the front indicators mean that they have the clear lenses. The orange lenses on the 73 cars only had the one wire as the parklight was moved to the headlight

cheers Rodney

well done that is spot on,,, so you put that with the no reinforcements in the stone tray the 69-70-71-72 rocket cover and none 73 inner rail bumper supports,,, the cutouts in the guards and the 73 style nuts then you have a car that sits on the edge of change over.

cheers gong

because it never had the reinforcements on the inner rails for the bumper it want have the ones under front floor pans or the twin skin tunnel, you will also be lucky if it has the welds on top of guards to scuttle panel.

They don't make em like that anymore.

Actually they never did but someone has done a great job on that.

As for that old wagon, I reckon if I had one of them I'd hide it away from view too, how embarrassing!  :P

I'd grab that wagon tomorrow if I could. Ford blokes talk up how much of a rust bucket some Holdens are. They forget how bad XA-XC were, that is because there are none left that aren't locked away out of the rain! That one would be near unique!
