I am attempting to find the colours and registration of any LC/LJ XU1s used by GMH for PR purposes.
I have A Yellow Dolly LC BHV-955 (NSW reg) tested by Modern Motor Nov 1970, a Lina Mint LC RNW-122 (SA reg) tested by Motor Manual Nov 1970, this was a three way discussion on Bathurst contenders and LC KPN-861 A Vic car not so much tested by reviewed by Wheels in Nov 1971. All pics I can find of this car are B&W but it looks like it could be Salamanca Red.
I know Motor Manual tested the HDT KLD-158 car in Sept 1971.
I suspect there is an AMS and a Sports Car World test but do not have a full set of these mags.
Does not seem to be anything on LJ XU1s but there is the Strike Me Pink car PWH-161 (photo in Dr Terrys book).

Yellow Dolly LC BHV-955 (In the Spotlight On Holden Torana book, this is clearly BHU-955). A "typo" on your part?

I also note a Yellow Dolly LC XU1 in The Holden Hertiage Book, 2 editions (2001 & 2004) I have, but its side on so cannot confirm rego.

Missed one
Modern Motor reported on the LJ release in the April 1972 issue. Stated "there were 3 LJ GTR XU1s and 2 LJ GTRs at Surfers Paridise for ride sessions" Full colour page shows SMP PWH-161.
If any one is interested I will list the GTR listings I have.

I have two copies of "Holden in Aust, one dated 1990 and one (no4) dated 1997. While they contain mostly similar layout and pages there are differences. Both contain the same Torana pages, the lower pic being one ie SMP LJ GTR engine bay and Silver LJ XU1 RTW-905. Can you confirm the top pic of the SMP XU1 is from the same mag or something different.

GTR Press cars
Release Motor Manual Dec 69 & Modern Motor Dec 69 both use Brooklands Blue GTR with number plates blacked out. AMS Dec 69 only has B&W image of GTR with plates blacked out.
Modern Motor and Motor Manual Jan 1970 both have RHV429. Wheels has a Bronze GTR, RHV428 in a GTR vrs Capri GT test Feb 1970. Modern Motor also have a GTR vrs Capri Gt in May 1970 issue, this is Glacier White reg KLL-965.
I did find the SMP GTR UXE-012 in History of Torana - Viva to victory c1986, same mag has LC GTR XU1 KPN-861.

Wheels release story on LJ runs a Green GTR on the cover (plates not visible) and a B&W XU1 inside (plates not visible. The following month they test SMP XU1 PWH-161 (only B&W pics). Wheels followed this story up in the Dec 1972 issue, still using PWH-161 images but covering 72 Bathurst changes.

What Colours were the GTR's at the Ride Sessions,as we know they used PWH161 SMP Brisbane Built LJ XU-1 and RTW905 Silver Adelaide Built LJ XU-1, were any of the GTR's in Strike Me Pink at the Ride Sessions

Thanks for the listing. I would be interested in getting the AMS and Sports Car World performance number from their test 0-30, 0-40, 0-50 and 0-60, quarter mile, top speed and Economy.

There is also a XU1 full road test in Feb 1972 Auto Action but I have yet to see a copy.

the 12-69 motor manual test noted above was the release of the LC story and the Blue GTR was on the cover. Full test of the GTR appeared in the 01/70 issue.

In answer to LJ press drive cars above the other two XU1s were ? Green and Silver Mist.

Hi Norm
this Strike me Pink LJ GTR Press Car with the W.A Number Plate UXE012, is it a GMH Port Melbourne Press Car with W.A number plates, as the Silver LJ XU-1 with the South Australian number plate RTW905 is a Adelaide Built LJ XU-1, but its Dealer Number was 000 M (GMH Port Melbourne) so im wondering was this Pink LJ GTR a GMH Port Melbourne Press Car with W.A number plates ????.
I did a FOI on the UXE012 number plate, but it went missing in the mail, will send a new FOI on Monday, do you know anything about this Pink LJ GTR.

All the press cars would have been assigned to PR dept Head Office or Sydney as this was where the main Office's were. The dealer code does not mean anything as the car was probably shipped direct to WA and registered there by the Holden Sales Office in Perth - likewise the Adelaide Press car were done by the service garage in Woodville. I do not know where the Perth sales Office was but may have been at the Assembly Plant.
The 000 is not a valid code as far as Holden is concerned. It is present because the computer required a valid code in that specific field of data, and to a computer '000' is a valid number as is '123'. The true dealer ID code has been concealed for some reason(or not know when the data was entered). The 'M' designation is for the zone that the vehicle order was placed through, not the zone the 'selling dealer' was located in. So the SMP GTR was ordered by M (Melbourne) not delivered to M.

I found another one.its a first gtr prototype test car rego is KXU-416,
Its got black bumpers,
black outs,
black grille,
black headlight rims,
white petrol cap.

John Was this in local Newspapers as the main mMotoring Mags used RHV429 and RHV428 AMS used KLM802, also KLL965 was tested in Sept well after the release.
Any pics?
