Tony at Rares Brisbane is a top bloke.
I didn't know they now have all those rust sections though. They should save some time and frustration in the rebuild.
I wouldn't mind nipping up to yours one day and see the Monaro when it's finished, if that's OK with you?
Cheers
Dave.

Feel free to pop in any time. As for seeing it when it's finished I guess that depends on if I have to give it back to the owner or not hehehe : )
Thanks again for passing on Tonys number. These panels will save a heap of time.

Hi Dave. Yeah I'm impressed with the range of parts rares does now, and you're right about Tony, nice bloke and happy to help.

Thanks Tim I would if only I knew where to go. Well I actually do know where to go, the wife keeps telling me, LOL.
But your address would be handy or do I just enter dirtbag into the GPS?
PM it to me if you want.
Cheers
Dave

Would a club run or a garage day be possible? I'm sure there would be a few of us keen with that idea! I'll even bring a tin of biscuits if you buy the Bushells.

Tim, how about a box of crispy cream doughnuts & a packet of family assorted biscuits?
Will that sway you to say yes? Ha Ha!

I'll bring the crispy creams, just can’t guarantee Tim will get them, it’s about a dozen donut drive.

Well It's been a while since I posted in here, as there's been other projects taking up time, but there has been a little bit of progress.
The front end is all wire wheeled clean now. What a crap job that was. Took nearly a whole day! The powder coaters wont sand blast anything with gunk on it. What a bunch of blouses. I don't care if it clogs up their machines and ruins all the abrasive. No really, I don't care : )
I also made the first cuts into the old girl today.
I started with the rear of the roof on the drivers side.

Pretty : )

A bit more chopping!

A bit of a dodgy rust repair at the base of the wheel tub. Some nice cobwebs too : )

Here's the inside of the front of the rear quarter I cut off. This is a good example of what NOT to do when doing a rust repair. Look at those overlaps. Not good.

Here's part of the rust problem. This panel inside collects crap and moisture and rusts out the quarter panel.

Easiest way to fix the problem is to get rid of the problem : )

Even though apart from a few cobwebs it looked pretty clean in there, but I thought I'd give it a good clean out just to be sure. Nothings beats bare metal anyway.

I'm glad I did because it exposed a bit more rust that I can fix before the new outer panel goes on.

I think it's clean enough in there now so tomorrow I can start on the actual repairs.

Just so you know, I've been keeping what's left of my sanity listening to this album. It's the new one from Amon Amarth. Good old Norwegian Viking death metal : )

Hopefully be some more interesting progress soon!

Are you welding it back on? Or is it stuffed?

So I did a bit of fixing today. I started on the bit up near the roof gutter.
I cut the crusty bit out and cleaned and rust converted inside the cavity.

Here's the bit I cut out.

And here it is with the new piece welded in. I didn't bother putting the big hole in the new piece I made. Figured it wasn't important.

Next job was the bit of rust along the lower part of the inner wheel arch.

I started by folding a piece up then using the shrinker stretcher to get the basic shape.

I wasn't going to bother putting a swage in the new piece, but I did anyway. It's not a perfect match to the original shape, but it's good enough for an inner panel.

Choppie choppie!!!!! hehehe.

So now it's ready for a little bit more cleaning inside then I'll etch prime in here before the outer skins go on.

More next week : )

I finally took all the front end bits in to the powder coaters this morning to get blasted and made pretty : )
I also prepped the inner rear guard and firewall for etch primer.

Then I coloured it in. Seems to have come up OK I think.

Ford vs Holden : )

Well I've had a 4m skip bin delivered to my old place so I can start the big clean up as the new house is hopefully only a month or so from being finished. Can't wait to finally be moved in!!!
Unfortunately I only have the skip for a week so wont get any more car stuff done this week : (

Im guessing you cut a peice out, used the brake or something to put the bends in then used your shrinker/stretcher to make the curve?
Thats my rough guess but yea would be good to see how that sorta stuff is actually done, and what tools you use (more importantly what ill need to buy)

First thing I did was remove the last piece of the old panel. I cut the panel off leaving the lip here, so today I ground all the spot welds off. I love spot welds. OK, no I don't : )

Then I trimmed and slightly reshaped the new gutter piece and tacked it into place. It fitted fairly well only needing minor adjusting.

You can see in this next pic where I've drilled a line of holes so I can plug weld the new piece onto the existing roof piece in the window opening. I've welded one, but will leave the rest until the rest is welded on.

Then after some more trimming and adjusting, I tacked the lower piece on too.

Then what felt like 5 hours of slow welding it was all joined together.

Then some grinding and sanding.

It turned out pretty well. Wont need too much filler either which is nice.

Here's all the plug welds done.

Then just for something different I smothered the lot in rust converter.

That's it for now.
