Hi All!

I am currently on the search to get some low profile tyres for my 73 LJ Torana.
I have gone through old threads on what manufacturers still make, and a lot of them are irrelevent now, as lots of those manufacturers have stopped making those models.
This thread is for anyone to post up their reviews on particular tyre models that suit the 13" size, and also to post up any information on anyone that still sells low profile tyres for the 13" (that I have missed).
I have gone through them myself, and I THINK I have found most if not all of the 205/60R13s that are still being made;

205/60R13s:

And available in the 185/60/R13:
  • Hankook: Make a 185/60/r13 : "Ventus HR II"
There are also various other manufacturers that make 13" Tyres but they are not low profile and tyres arent as wide. Some of which are:
  • Sumitomo make various 13" tyres
  • Bridgestone- 175/70R13 (VERY CHEAP)
  • Kumho: 185/70 R13: "PASSENGER CAR RADIAL - 758"
I personally want to go for the 205/60RR13's, but depending on availability, I would then go for the Hankook 185/60R13's because at least they are low profile. Please post up any of your own recomendations if you have any, I am going to make some calls this week and work out the best prices available for these tyres, and I will also post them up. I really like the look of the BFGoodRich Radial T/A Tyres posted above, please let me know your thoughts on these, I rekon they look awesome, but havent seen them on many toranas. Let me know which tyre set you think is the best quality, and that is currently available.

Cheers,

Salts

I bought "Hankook Radial 866" tyres in 205/60/13 about a year ago and they were still making them then so there should deffinately still be some around.

Hey Salts,

Check out the Mini shops, they stock 13s that are rare sizes.

Check these for the front of a Torana, sticky 175/50/13s

http://www.minisport...au/prod1415.htm

Here they are fitted to 13 x 6 (mini rims)

http://www.minisport...au/prod1941.htm

Also these,

http://www.minisport...au/prod1413.htm

And Sime, but I've never used these

http://www.minisport....au/prod646.htm

At the moment I have 205 60R 13 Nankang Remex on the Sprintmasters on the LC. Have to say
They are pretty good for a cheaper tyre. They were from Bob Jane, $112.00 each around 12 months ago,

Regards Simon

They look decent mate, thanks for the tip off of that website, will certainly go through those. That first set looks awesome, but $275 a tyre hmm lets just say I was not looking to spend that much lol! Other 2 sets look quite reasonable though. Didn't know you could get the 175's in such a low profile, they would look good.

Thanks Rodomo, I actually had the Advan AO48 on my original list on paper, don't know how I missed it, cheers. The AO48 Advan also comes out in a 175/50r13 Debkar if your interested :) (I think this is what Rodomo meant to say when he replied to your post) But either way they make both the 205/60R13s and the 175/50r13s.

Keep them coming...

HI

Yes, freight can be very high from the US

Freight from UK is quite high, but still cheaper than over here as we don't pay VAT on them, 17.5 % currently.

Below is cost 4 x A539 175/50/13, in Australia same tyres are quoted as $636 (for 4 tyres).

I have had parts arrive from UK for my Mini from this company via DHL Air (door skins , bumpers etc) in just 5 days,

175 -205 is a good width for the 6 inch rims Salts, even 215s. I've seen 235/50/13s on 6 inch rims in the 1980s, looked a little too much for the rim,

Just remember to keep an eye out for the tyres load rating. It must be equal to or greater than the minimum load rating on the tyre placard. This applies to cars built after 1/1/1971.

G/day Salts

Check your tyre choices on this tyre calculator. It has a comparison tool that will give you all the specs and even tell you the difference between your speedo (theoretically accurate) reading and actual speed.

13" x 6" XU1 Sprintmasters were fitted with CR70H13 tyres, that equates to approx 195 to 200 mm wide tyre with a wall profile of 70%. So input 195/70/13 into Tyre 1 on the calculator and then input your proposed replacement tyre specs in Tyre 2.

This might help you choose a tyre size that will be reasonably compatible with your existing speedo gearing.
http://www.exploroz....s/SizeCalc.aspx

I was surprised to find that a 225/60/13 is very close to a 195/70/13 for rolling radius, diameter and circumference.

Cheers
Dave

P.S: There is a tyre sizing calculator in the pinned threads but I like this one.

Thanks a lot for that dave, thats awesome cheers!

Just an update on things: Although the Yokohama Y352 is listed on the Yokohama website as available, there is in fact no one here that is selling them anymore. Called around here a bit, and then when I had no sucess I called Yokohama themselves, and they said the only place that may still have some is "Traction Tyres and More", Rowville. Called them up and they don't stock them anymore, so that ones is off the list!!!

I called up 'the Tyre Factory ' and they could get 2 different kinds of 205/60/r13s: (both $130 a tyre I was quoted)
  • Maxxis-UA602
  • federal-595: http://www.federalty...performance/595 -Have a look at the link on these tyres, they look quite good to me, what does everyone think? Would they suit a daily drive, or are they more of a track/drift tyre?
  • Bob Jane can get in a Hankook 866 in the 205/60 R13 (Quoted $169 a tyre)
  • "Traction Tyres and More" can get in the Falkon ze912 in the 205/60/r13 (quoted $159 a tyre)
  • "Traction Tyres and More" can also get in the Yokohama Advan AO48 in the 205/60/r13: Quoted $242 a tyre (but was told this is only if I am in a car club)
Those are basicly the options I am left with: Recomendations from the above list, or any other suggestions? I know there are other tyres in this size available, but I am finding it difficult to find places that are actually stocking them anymore, and that is the problem. Really wanted the Yokohamas, but after being told I cant get the Y352s, the AO48s are a bit out of my price range. I think the Falkon ZE192 offered by traction tyres and more would be the next best available, but I really like the look of the federal 595s-but don't know if they are good or not.

Thanks a lot...

The Maxxis, Federal and Hankook are all cheapies. This doesn't mean they will or won't be suitable for you. My choice would be the Falken or the A048 if you were doing laps.

Lol i ran Federals in that size waaaaaaay back in 2005.

They were shit then, my very mild 173 used to bag the backs and my stocko spek disk brakes used to lock the fronts.....lets not talk about when you hit a corner. I'll assume they havnt changed.

Went to 15" after that so cant comment further.

Cheers.

If you drive a 244 Volvo to lawn bowls, the cheapies will be fine. Otherwise, use them for burnout tyres.

I have the Hankook 866 on my 73 LJ and I'm very pleased with them. IMO an excellent mid performance tyre for the price. Surprisingly capable in the wet I may add. They also sit quite nicely on the Sprintmasters with no clearance issues at all.

The Nankangs are a very nice tread pattern and look like they would perform quite well.

After a lot of calling around, the best tyres I have come across that will suit me I think are the Falken 912's in the 205/60/r13s so I am gonna go with them.

Before I order them though, what is the minimum load rating on the tyre placard for a 73 LJ Torana? - Does it say on my car somewhere?

Also, will I have any trouble getting the Roadworthy and taking it to Vic Roads, will they care that I am running 205/60/r13s, and they are slightly different to the original tyres?

Cheers

G/day Salts

'H' rated tyres, so 'H' or better.
205's shouldn't be a problem, the original tyre size for the Sprintmaster rims was a CR70H13 which equates to a 195/70H13 or 200/70H13.
The 205/60's have a slightly smaller rolling radius than a 195/70 so the tyres being too big in diameter shouldn't be an issue.

I'll be interested to find out what you think of the Falken 912's. I'm prob going for the Kumho K11R 205/60/13. Been quoted $110.00 ea fitted and bal.

Cheers
Dave
