As most who have them fitted, you need to cut the tunnel to get good angle between engine and diff. The TKO bolts in without mods.

Is that the tko 600 will bolt straight in behind the ls1 with any mods??

I'm half way through fitting my LS1 with powerglide in my LH. Iv used the tuff mounts & re-drilled the holes 25mm forward to clear the firewall. I wish they didnt scollop out the mounts so I could move the engine even further forward cos in running a Harrop 112 blower with intercooler on mine & the rear belt is only about 3mm away. I'v used a camaro sump which iv had to cut up, so in the next few wks I'll get that welded up & bolt it all back in & take some pics if you want to have a look.

Yeah ok nw I have my engine in used the tuff mounts an moroso sump pretty close to firewall. You using th400 jw how much easier an cheaper should be alot cheaper than the manual cause don't have to muck around with getting clutches an clutch setups right ay??

All I need to sort out now is extractors & pipes, prob a smaller starter bcos there's not much room on drivers side, touque converter, run a fuel return line, tailshaft, get a 9" built & a few other little bits & pieces. So pretty much another few grand which I don't have ;( The engine ran 12.01 in my VY SS ute but that was on a 35 degree day, full weight including passenger & spare wheel & the clutch was more than half f'd. so should be inerrsting in the little torrie.

LS1's don't have a return fuel line from factory, are you modifying it like dirtbag did?

What work did you have done to your engine?

Get the MSD 5096 starter and pm fullnoise in here (he made my custom 4-1 pipes - my starter remains on the drives side to)

You can save money in the diff department by running a borg warner 28 spline diff... they weigh a shitload less then a 9" to

Banjo 3.08 open centre, axles and oil, no brakes. 50 kg
9" factory iron LSD, factory 31 spline axles and oil, no brakes 70.5 kg. (Iron housing with LSD centre 32 kg. Housing 22 kg, axles 16.5 kg)
9" alloy Truetrac, Moser 31 spline axles and oil, no brakes 59.5 kg (Strange alloy housing with Truetrac centre 23 kg, Housing 22 kg, axles 14.5 kg)
Rorym's BW M78 Skyline, no oil, open centre, brakes and axles 64 kg. (From this thread)

If you take 8 kg off the M78 Skyline for brakes and add 1 kg for oil that makes it weigh around 57 kg vs 59.5 for the alloy centre 9". Once you add the weight of a decent centre to the BW it will probably be heavier than a alloy 9".

Personally I doubt 15 kg either way would have any measurable effect on performance.

Yeah I thought about a Borg Warner but I want reliability, in case I decide 2 go more power later on. the engine made 440rwhp on the dyno when inside the shop was 46 degrees( it was on black Saturday) so it's already making decent mumbo. The engine was stock, only had pacy extractors, 2.5" exhaust, upgraded valve springs, 10psi pully, extream clutch, & lowerd springs. The combo had more in it when it was 1st tuned but ran out of injectors that came with the kit, they wernt firing anymore at 105%, so couldn't tune it past 5600rpm.

The problem is that there are so many different 9" housings, centres and axles available that the weight and power capabilities vary dramatically. I would not be surprised if the weight of a 9" conversion could vary by 50+ kg depending on the components used.

If I was to build another diff for my hatch I would be tempted to build a BW M78 with a KAAZ. As far as I know the KAAZ is not available for a 9".

I've got a KAAZ for later on, don't expect to be blowing the standard 78 series diff anytime soon though

I don't think you will be getting much traction with the standard BW M78 LSD. It probably won't be any better than an open centre after a couple of weeks.

KAAZ is the name of the manufacturer.

The KAAZ LSD is a cross between a clutch pack LSD and a locker. In a straight line the torque is used to increase the clamping pressure on the LSD clutches. This makes the KAAZ a locking LSD.

The 9" LSD uses a clutch pack but the pressure on the clutch pack is preset when the diff is assembled. The diff has to be able to slip for cornering which means it will also slip in a straight line hence the term "Limited Slip Differential".

A locking diff will not slip in a straight line and will unlock for cornering.

Are you aware that you can not engineer or register the car with a spool?
