E30 320i

Its a 320i auto with 165k on the clock. When I got it the brakes were no existent and leaked coolant under the dash.
First job was to fix the leak. It turned out to be a solenoid that allowed coolant to flow into the heat exchanger under the dash. It had separated in half, pulling out the brass rivets that held it together. I replaced with bolts and reinstalled. A fiddly fix but cross that off the list.
I then dumped the coolant and replaced. After doing this I was having over heating issues due to and air lock in the cooling system. After checking the thermostat and re installing I managed to solve the issue by raising the front of the car and running the heater with the bleed screw off. After some fiddling i managed to get a constant stream of coolant from the bleeder screw atop the thermostat and that solved the over heating.
Next on the list was the brakes. I wanted to put some vented x-drilled discs and EBC green stuff pads on. During the boxing day sales I was not able to find a stocked set so i decided to just slap some standard replacement DBA discs and Bendix pads in. Shed still needs a bleed to set my pedal feel but it was a marked improvement, the discs i pulled off looked to be the originals! So the rears will defiantly require the same treatment.
There is a bunch of little stuff i need to sort on on her. Lots of little trim pieces need a clean or fixing but theirs a few of these out there being wrecked atm. To get the car where I want I will put some new carpet in, replace whats broken trim wise and have some dents fixed. Then depending how keen I get I like the Idea of some bilsteins, lowering it it and a set of fake bbs 16/17's. It depends what i can find cheap. Id also like to think one day ill stumble across a wrecked 3251 and manual to go in.
Its a neat little car and im looking forward to putting her back on the road.

Still scratching my head if I will take it off for a blue slip or not.
In the mean time I started buying parts for the 2door.... lol
I picked up:
- 240 getrag 5 speed manual, flywheel and cross member ect - $127.00
- Tail shaft to suit above 1522mm long - (sent over from the uk) $130 deliverd (took 4.5 days ! wow!)
- M20B27 complete engine - $62.77
so plan is to get the 2 door regod and pull the engine and slap the 320i 731 head on the m20b27 bottom end and attach that up to the manual
Obviously there are quite a few cosmetic things to fix in that process to.
still thinking I may sell off that parts car. hmmmmmm

Most fun i've had on 2 wheels is a crappy old cbr1000f i bought for a couple of hungy. I've never been on anything that moves like that in my life and its a 20 year old bike. I could only imagine how a modern litre bike would go! 2 gears get you to something like 180km/h, not sure what the rest are for hahaha.

it has three levels of traction control and three different power settings.
I told the dealer "yeh mate i dont intend on taking it off full abs/traction control and low power mode.....
second sweeper i hit I thought bugger it this is tame. traction off power setting F for FAST. it makes its power up high but wow it winds up.
still think the GSXR will suit me better.AND its 4k cheaper

Its kinda scary that they sell a bike like that with a go-slow mode. If you can't use a throttle then maybe you shouldn't buy a 1L bike hahaha.

gday markelldawe,
is that your car?
yeh ls1's in e30's is becoming quite popular however its a lot of work. Id love to do one (i have too many projects already) but this is just going to be a boring old cruiser.

Yes, it was my car. You are not the first to make this mistake, it isn't an LS1, its a late model Toyota vvti 1uz-fe! It had an aftermarket Link computer on it, hand made extractors, a T5 manual etc. I did not ever take it to the drags but I reckon it would have done a mid to low 13. This engine replaced a turbo 2.7 stroker with 180rwkw. Great fun cars.

Also, who did you use to ship your tailshaft from the UK? Someone I know wants to bring over some brake parts.

Remind me to punch you in the head next time i see you Jim, for mistaking a real mans V8 for a frOcking LS1....

I thought the ls1's had a tighter v (or narrower heads) than the 1uz, i would have thought they would be easier to fit. Not saying its the wrong engine for the job tho .
I think a nice 1gz would be a better way to go .

Both 90 degree V's, but the 1U has the cams in the head, so yes its wider
If you can find me a 1GZ, i'll fit it to the most ridiculous thing i can find....There like hens teeth..

There has been 3 on ebay in the last 3 months. The last one went a couple of weeks ago for $2500ish. From what i've read they share the same crank pattern as the 1uz so 1uz manual conversion bits just 'fit'.
Ahh just found it

Have you seen the turbo 1gz supra, that thing would be fuuuunnnnn. Not sure about the weight distro but who cares... Poweeeeerrrr
