(it was getting a little dark when these pics were taken thus why they look such a different color to the above)

I had no tiny fish eye problems this time and no bugs!....... I still had a lot of dust settle on my clear  but it will wet sand out pretty easy. The down side is that I am now going to go and drop $250 on a sweet polishing DA. However I was pretty chuffed at how little orange peel I am getting.

Anyway before I do that I will re-clear the boot and fix a bunch of dent repairs (fingers crossed on the whole blending metallics thing).

nah man just winging it.

as i said tho I will need to put some hours in wetsanding it and even then there will be some bit of dust that will live in the paint forever. One day I am going to build a spray booth.

So this week I have been playing around with my panel gaps on the front of the car and getting everything to align. I think I am 90% there.

20131127_205351_zps3e2c7a9c.jpg

The other issue I have been trying to sort out was the front apron / valance. If you look back in the pics on the 1st page you will notice that on the passage side it is bent like a banana. Anyway this was even more obvious when I tried to clip on the lower iS front lip. Anyway I spent a night or two beating the dent back out so that the valance lined back up. I got it fairly close and I will dress up the rest of the damage and respray in due course.

Considering I was intending to throw the bent panel away and get a new one I was happy enough with the result thus far.

Ohh and to keep bomber happy these turned up a week ago and will be fitted after I have gotten the car through rego.

Looking sweet. Are you finding the colour and texture of the metallic between panels is consistent? I would have thought spraying them separately like that could lead to a bit of variance between them. Looks good in that photo but.

Yes this method is not ideal and if it were my torana I wouldn't be doing it like this however answering your question, not that I can tell. I set my pressure at the gun and when I shoot the base so I ensure a constant 19psi and bump it to 22-23psi for the clear (LVLP gun). The other thing I am doing is laying it on quite heavy (for base coat that is) doing three coats. Then leaving the dregs of the base coat in the cup and pouring in some clear.

The down side of putting it on heavier is that I am using more base coat than I would like and that shit is close to $100 per liter.

I try and get a pic of the panel gap between the passenger guard and the bonnet (sprayed at different times).

Nice !! Being raised in a BMW household (mum had a red E30 323i among many others) I have real soft spot for these cars. All my shed is missing is a 635csi and then it will be complete.

Good to see this little E30 being given some love and at $600, you cant go wrong.

The project is coming along nicely Jim. I completed my shed this week. My '86 635 CSi should be on the road tomorrow :D Happy days !!

Shame I had to sell a V8 UC in the process but not to worry, I've still got an LH and LX to play with.

Great project. Where did you get the springs?? I still haven't sorted that part out on my BMW E9 build so wondering if they will fit that model also??

ohhh man Big T I love it.... also macka you BMW is going to to be horn.

The springs are from German Engineering, its just some dude who made a set of coil overs to suit E30s because he owns a few. He had a website and I learnt about him via R3v limited.

there has been bugger all work on the E30 in the last month it needs a little more body work and some primer on the body.

As mentioned I have purchased a new house. I take possession on the 30th of this month. actually getting pretty excited. The house has 3 phase to the garage and its own set of ramps that drive out over a pit, set up in a gully.

Best thing yet my partner wanted the house more than I did aaaand she had said the first thing that needs to be done is a shed built to put my stuff in! Mainly because she doesn't want any car parts around the house or in it... but hey ill take that as a win. Sooo looking at a 7.5x12m shed atm.

The only car work I have been doing of late was cleaning my old ute up for sale..... it came up well I recon:

You scored well on the house man... I would love a shed that I could at least open the doors to my car in hahaha. Ah well, it gives me something to look forward to. The ute came up a treat :spoton:
