I just got my diff made by Chris at Chris's differential services and it looks awesome, nice mounts, welds look perfect, strange billet 31 spline axles and most important ready for pick up in less then a week

Chris's Differentials
49 - 55 Riverside Avenue
Werribee 3030

He's got a Facebook page too for pictures of there work

Yeah Nick I have seen Chris advertising on ebay as well. I was going to get him to do my axles as he's local but I was referred to pdr diffs in Geelong by Hopper Stoppers so went with them.

What did the billet axles cost you on their own?

For QueenslandAltra 9http://www.altra9.com.au/After contacting this shop and discussing my requirements i feel very confident in recommending him. But its not cheap. To my understanding all components are new, and not refurbished 30 year old crap reclaimed from and old diff.. EVERYTHING is NEW.For example i asked for a Heavy duty 9 inch assembly that could handle 6-700 hp on slicks ( not saying the car has this much but you know )I asked for 1 inch shorter than standard, I asked for it to be using commodre rear brake assembly's, and HQ stud pattern and of course 35 splne flanged axles ( floaters we an option )Was around 5k for that diff assembly With a nodular LSD center but...locker optional if i remember correctlyThey also stock and sell handbrake cable assebly's to suit all brake combination for the rear end.As was also mentioned to me. These guys are the primary importer for most of the diff and billet component in diff construction.. They also resell to ALOT of the places that sell diff stuff ...Like Qpaac, Macdonald bros etc etc etc...As i am big believer of, why talk to the dog when you can speak with its owner.....Hope this info helps

I can recommend these guys as well, plenty of advice, knowledge and can fit in with what the customer needs.

Looking to have drive in - drive out BW or Hilux Diff conversion in an HR Holden.

Will need the whole works done incl. tailshaft/brakes.

Can anyone recommend a shop in adelaide to do the job?

Cheers

I have a ford BW cut down to torana length and brackets all that.

But it still has ford stud pattern with 25 spline centre and axles

I have a commodore center bolted in with the 28 spline and 4 gear center. I have some commodore axles also that would need to be shortened

Will a shop be able to cut the diff flanges off and weld on the commodores and shorten the axles or will they tell me to start over.

Go see Phil Purser at Final Drive in O'Conner, not the cheapest in Perth, but top quality job on my diff.

Any other recommendations for Perth WA? Ideally North Perth.

Final Drive only do 9" Diffs, so no go with the Banjo.

Has anyone used AD Differentials?

Cheers.

G'day fellow Torana lovers,

My name is Caz and I am hoping we could pick this topic up again and discuss the best quality Diff Geniuses in Queensland. I am happy to travel to get the right set up - I mean -  we really are in THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!!!!!!!!!

But my husband is mad for these cars and I truly do love owning a Torana, but really  just want to be able to say - I had a hand at rebuilding the axle and diff housing that I snapped.

I am running a 350 Chev in my 77 LX Torana with a 9" diff.

Axles are currently 28 splines but I am thinking 31 splines this time. Apparently I am set up more for the 1/4 mile and so will get rid of the mini spool and replace with a truetrac for a more relaxed cruise set up.....

My husband enjoys watching me asking questions and learning, not to mention he enjoys telling ANYONE who cares to listen, "Yeah, Caz f*$ked it - so she is gonna fix it!!!"

So goddamn it - I am here asking for help to be ABLE to help fix it.
If you could please guys, help me out and help me find a BANGIN' rear end set-up. that is built well and will really blow minds.

I love learning, ask questions and watch carefully - I don't just want to be the terrorist who breaks her ride all the time - only to hand it over to someone else to fix.........
I would much rather draw from your experiences, learn as much as I can along the way and rebuild something I can be proud of!!

Please help me by recommending someone who creates beautiful diffs.

Thanks heaps for reading - feel free to leave comments on my profile or send me a message if you have any advice!!\

Cheers,

Caz

So you already have a working 9" diff, that's ½ of the work done, you don't need to buy a whole diff conversion.

Next question would be, are you breaking 28 spline axles? If not then it would be a much simpler process to stick with the axles you have and just buy a 28 spline centre to suit.

If you do want or need to change to 31 spline axles then they will have to be custom made, so you will need to know the length of your current axles and the stud pattern or "PCD" of your wheels. This would involve removing them and measuring.

The next question is, are you happy with the current diff ratio or do you want to change the gear set as well? We can work with you to get the ratio you want but will need details of your rear tyre size and gearbox/speedo setup, then I can crunch the numbers and figure out your target cruise RPM.

Question next, is your current diff carrier (the cast 'pumpkin' that bolts into the diff housing) anything special like an alloy one or whatever?

If not, and you want to change ratios, then I'd suggest buying a second hand carrier and having someone in the city setup the gearing and centre you need. If you do that then you can simply swap the carriers as required, all you need is basic hand tools (and the ability to bench press about 40 kgs)!
