It would be interesting to see how it goes on a hot day (40C +). I have a similar setup, hopefully it will be enough.

Not quite 40 out today, but getting closer...and let it idle for 20 minutes in the shed..then drove around for 15 minutes (was just checking another little thing I just did) then idling for 40 minutes again sitting still in the shed...

You can see the outside air temp on the thermometer and as before the engine temperature is perfect.

Oh,and used some other heat shielding around the rear header tube closest to the fuel lines and fuel pressure at idle is rock solid (as it was when running it for shorter periods of time or on cool days) so that hopefully is that as well.

The Afco dual pass radiator and twin Spal fans certainly do the trick in my book.

Oh, and here is the heat shield stuff I used...I had wrapped my headers as well after building them, but just needed this little bit "extra" where I had routed the fuel lines a little too close. Just one of those things I suppose that comes up building a car some times.

I tried to shoot the two different tubes in about the same place, distance wise from the head since the temp goes down sort of quick once you get an inch or so more from the head it seems.
As well, the temperature on the outside of the new shielding seems to be the same everywhere, where as with just the header wrap they vary from about as low as I have showed to mid 300 degrees along it (aside from right near the head that is) so the heat shielding stuff is cutting more temps down too in some areas.

I just have the shield around the rear header tube loosly now, didn't have any extra stainless steel tie wraps left (thought I did) so will grab a couple more of them and tie it to the tube nicer.

And the last picture shows what the stuff looks like. It is ceramic wool of sorts and the instructions mention to wear gloves and breathing protection while cutting and installing it as I imagine the very fine fibers you would get from rubbing it around would not be the best to breathe. The stuff will not burn either it says..

Nice testing there mate!

Did you cover up any of your starter or o2 wires? I have some of that fire proof orange tubing they use on our haulpaks at work.

Is that wrap available ex ebay? Never seen it over here hey.

Thanks Dan!

And on those wires...I used some foil-fiberglass-sorta tape stuff on any wires that were near heat. Basically the same stuff GM uses on the starter wire/crank sensor/etc on the factory F body LS1 loom. But I also tried to route the wires away from direct heat as much as possible.

On the fuel lines, they looked really good and seemed to mount just easily where I ended up doing them, but in hind sight I probably should have ran them against the firewall instead of along the inner skirt/frame rail area. That would have given me another inch and a half or so of air space on them. But think this should take care of things how it is.

Oh, and the shielding I used is here: http://cgi.ebay.com/...=item35ac0941df

If you go the Heatshield Products site you can see they do a heap of different sorts of stuff as well for different levels of heat, applications, etc.

(I wrapped the headers themselves fully in normal 2" wide wrap when I had built them too)

I had a little squeek noise coming from the plastic idler puller on my belt tensioner...the other pulley above it is a billet aluminum one, but the one plastic one had a noisy (when cold) bearing in it...plus it was the only thing plastic on the front of the engine....so bought a new billet aluminum one for it. Just came today and haven't had a chance to mount it, but it looks so nice, I wish I could just mount it on the dash or something so could see it all the time, lol... :badabing:

I got a new fuel sender in the mail today as well.... I am using a tube style one now (like fuel cells use) but it doesn't seem to work all that great with the drop tank and stock gauge on the dash.
I found a universal style swinging sending unit (like the stock design uses) so going to give that one a go...I think I can mount it in the same hole I had the other sending unit (on the top of my drop tank) so will just see how it goes. Will get the pulley on tomorrow too and snap a pic B)

VDO 220.003 10-180Ω will work with the factory gauges F 10Ω E 184Ω. You just have to mount the float on the opposite side of the pivot so when it is at the top it is 10Ω and at the bottom it is 180Ω. It will mount from the top.

It is easier to calibrate in a bucket.

I think I gave the wrong sender number, I originally had the factory gauge but then changed to the aftermarket VDO. I think the sender for the factory gauges is 220.004 5-90Ω. Same design just different ohmn range.

That looks like a nice setup as well...VDO stuff is not as common here it seems though. I went with a universal one in as so much as it is adjustable for all different tank depths but still was the correct resistance for the factory gauge. I'm snap some pictures tomorrow to show just what style it is, bit late tonight to muck around in the shed.

And I made an acess hole in the boot floor so it's easy to get to the sending unit in the drop tank too!

Old pulley off, and new pulley on....looks a heap better, is billet aluminum and no squeek like the plastic one had.

And the new one on.

And the fuel sending unit...

It is a universal length one.. Comes with a chart to set the depth and length of the float arm as well. A picture of how it came, and after I set it up for the correct depth. It fit right in as well!

You've adapted some serious mods to that vehicle Jeff, and it all looks mickey mouse. :spoton:

I gotta say though mate, thats one tidy workshop .... haha... I wish I could keep mine that organised.

While I think of it, was it a tight fit getting the T56 6 speed in?

Thansk! and the 'workshop' needs a vacuum again actually :sucker: :badabing:

Was not too bad getting the 6 speed in..did have to do some floor surgery, but overall not a huge drama and fit snuggly but well!

Did a little playing around while I had some free time the other day....(will be starting to load containers within a couple weeks time, so playing around with the car while I can) and felt like making something for it...a front tow hook.

I know that if anything were to happen and it needed to get winched onto a roll back, the front spoiler would not like that too well with the winch cable under it using a hook under a control arm, etc.

Seeing an old picture of a race Torana gave me this idea. I cut it out of some plate steel and bolted it through the bumper bracket. Should do the trick "just incase" I figure and gives a place to winch from...hopefully I will never have to use it though !!

It's plenty sturdy for the weight of the car I reckon too..and the bolts holding it are grade 8 7/16".

Jeff, great car. Your car is pretty much the exact thing I am looking to build at some stage. My old man always said he wanted to take one of these over to the states to drive one around, great to see a few of them over there.

Thanks guys!

I'm flat out loading containers at the moment so no time really to go for a cruise or much of anything else, but will be back to playing with a few other little things on the car and driving it some more soon as I get this batch of loading done in a few weeks :D

Just wondering, if say I find a car in California and want it inspected who do I go to?
