Nice Jeff And because the disc is so large it moves the caliper right out of the way of most of the suspension Paint them red though.. .and remove the AMG logo

Yes....doing them in red is a given of course....will probably try to add the BREMBO decal or paint onto them like the red ones have now. (they are silkscreened from the factory I imagine) could even do something custom like HDT or HSV, that would really confuse people here

I have an adjustable proportioning valve already plumbed into the rears (it is a wilwood distribution block/adjustable valve..mounted under the master cylinder) but the rear will need all it can get probably as is, ha ha..

And probably will eventually go with something larger in the rear as well...maybe even run the 4 piston ones on the back (which is what the Mercedes use), just would have to sort out a park brake of some sort if I did that.

WOW! That is bloody awesome! How good is that! I agree with DATTO though, drop the AMG and just paint them Red!

Thanks ! And as mentioned....red is a no-brainer for sure for me...soon as I get my hands on a pair for myself they will go red.

Whats on the back now Jeff ?

330 mm disc with a little baby PBR caliper as used in Corvettes here (and something there no doubt as well.) has internal parking brake mechanism in it as well..has the arm on the back for the cable.

I did the rear way before the front...so didn't really figure into the future what I might have gotten up too, ha ha..

Get yourself a pair of handbrake backing plates to suit 190mm handbrake drums (wilwood does these)
Then you can adapt a number of different discs to the back
Commodore rear discs come in sizes up to 343mm off the shelf (Bigger in VE series)

But you won't be able to use that caliper you took off the front on the back... piston sizes too big

What are the piston sizes on the factory 4 piston calipers the SL55 used then ? (just out of curiosity...since they came with the 8 front/4 rear setup originally)

I could always use the AMG rear ones...they seem to come up more often then the front.

The 343 mm Commodore disc sounds handy, would it suit the wilwood handbrake drum setup ?

(could go with Mercedes rotors for the rear if I had wanted to as well probably..just redrill the bolt pattern like I did for the fronts..but not sure about the park drum use with them)

Oh, and I'll be starting to load containers again in a couple weeks time, and for about 5 weeks then...so I will not be playing around with the rear brake setup any time right away

Just happy to get the front sorted out as far as what to use now...and will just buy the calipers as soon as I (or my buddy at the dealership) comes across some for a bit of a bargin. Will buy them new if nothing else I suppose...

As long as you get the handbrake setup to suit the disc internal handbrake you should be right
Commodore runs a 190mm... I think that might go across the Chev/Cadillac range there too
Or you could get some Brembo handbrake calipers which are purely cable and have them in addition to the hydraulic rears and not worry about h/b inside the discs
Lambos , etc use them

Rear piston sizes should stay under 1.25" or you'll have displacement and overbrake issues

These are nice too (won't fit your mounts)

Those silver rear ones you linked to, I had noticed before...those would be the matching ones to the fronts I will use.

And I have seen those little calipers for park brake as well. Figure once I get the front buttoned up, finished loading all this next batch of containers and settled back down a little, lol... will take a look at what to do for an upgrade package for the rear brakes. (not that the 330mm setup is so bad, but what the heck...haha)

Oh, and my buddy has a spare 6 piston Brembo he could have loaned me along with the 8 piston one...it is a factory Maserati one actually. But just figured since the 8 piston ones fit, then would just go all out for them.

Nah....I just won't park on hills, and it's a manual trans so will just stick it in gear and walk away, lol...

At least with the front setup I will be able to stop quick..

For anyone curious...I weighed one of the calipers today... 12.8 pounds. Not toooooo bad for it's size I reckon. The red 4 piston ones I currently run are 12.1 for comparison.

That is a lot of brakes :)

AMG Disc 15 kg, Caliper 5.8 kg. Total 20.8 kg per wheel.

DBA 5046 328 mm 9.4 kg + hat (?2 kg), CP5200 Caliper 2.6 kg. Total 14.0 kg per wheel.

DBA 502 290 mm disc 8.0 kg, AU Caliper 3.5 kg. Total 11.5 kg per wheel.

I could have saved weight for sure....there are lighter rotors out there of course. Mercedes has a similar 360mm one that is a 2 piece, floating hub sort of design but they are big bucks.
And of course there are any number of after market rotors out there too..or other OE ones (albeit perhaps not quite the same size)

But with bang for the buck I figure it is hard to beat this setup. And at least there is plenty of mass to dissapate heat :)

Hey Jeff,
When I got home today I saw a sight I see now and then...normally this happens late at night when its all quiet...so as I was driving something from your homeland (and is SoCal built) I thought I would share....I am the opposite of you of course with a car like this...I have some LX's in the shed as well, but was driving this today.

Yes that old line about Kanga's hoping down the street is true....this is not photoshoped.

Great pictures ! Sure is a cool sight, at least to me that never see's one like it, ha ha...

I am in the middle of loading containers now, and had a couple customers from there (that I'm shipping a few cars for) stop by the house the other day and they really got a kick out of seeing the car over here too. Even if it is hard to see it at the moment with my shed over flowing with boxes and new tires to ship
