Took it around the block today for the first time with the new calipers in place :)

It pulls up pretty dang good ! I did notice you have to stand on the pedal pretty hard to make them lock up, think I might have a little bit of air in them perhaps still ? (there are 4 bleeder screws to do of course..) so going to give them another bleed up just to be sure, then should be good to go! (or they just need to bed in more as well) They will certainlly pull the car down from any speed I can find myself at no doubt :D

(Oh, and no stickers for them yet...the guy who is going to custom make them is flat out in the middle of restoring a car for a customer, but says he will get them done for me ASAP when he gets a chance..)

Great build thread Jeff, plenty of info and pics, thanks. Your LX hatch is awesome and the new AMG brakes are unreal, would have thought the AMG logo was worth keeping on them though, but I like the red. The locals over your way must think they are looking at a really weird Chev Vegas or Monza done properly, with attitude and menace. I got up close and personal to the channel 9 Camaro when it first showed up in Oz at Bathurst in 1979 and thought it was the greatest car on earth. Fat and low and tough, we had never seen anything like it.The A9X Torana was still unstoppable and uncatchable that year, but I had caught the american muscle car bug. http://www.youtube.c...h?v=ruMvhNtfBms

It's great to see that our home grown Aussie iron has made an impression on an American. Do you know if there are any good car shows on the West coast coming up in September-October as I am bringing my tribe over on a much anticipated family USA holiday and want to see some American street machines as well as some football if it's on while we are there? :dontknow:

Thanks guys !

I was at the local cruise night last night (it is every Friday night and worth checking out if you are in the area, and when you are over there is always swap meets to check out if you wanted as well!) and one guy checking out the car kinda looked down a little at the wheels, and then noticed the brakes and was kind of blown away by them...haha..was a cool reaction I thought as he looked at them.

And they sure would have been good to have back in the Bathurst days no doubt, but they did pretty dang well as it was anyways :)

The AMG logo was ok, but my new decals will be pretty nice hopefully as well. (Should have them soon)

Oh, and I had rebled the brakes as well and pedal feel is great I reckon now...

Here are the rear calipers I am going to run...just need to find a matching other side to this one now !

Mounting looks pretty straight forward as well. Will use my existing 330mm rotors with them. They are the matching rear calipers for my front ones..off the same sort of car SL55/S55

Getting ready to load a container again back this was from there in a month or so...

Any ideas what I should spend some money and bring back? lol...

Hmmmmmm..... Door trims come to mind first off. Maybe some rear springs? (like to lower the rear of the car 3/4" - 1" or so. Then ?

Love the car and the work you have done but PLEASE do it justice and paint the bonnet red or lose the chrome around the windows.

They are mad wheels.

Noticed a few cars in the back ground. Car show?

How do you go at the US muscle car meetings? With out looking at the plates what type car do yanks think the torry is?

Yep, that was at the local cruise night (I've posted various pics from there before in another thread)

And you hear all sorts of odd comments about what the car may be. It's funny just sitting back and hearing all the odd ball, off the wall comments about what it is, ha ha..

Now and then though I'll come across someone who might think it's a "Holden" at least. No one has actually known it's a Torana, all though last week had the closest guess yet when a guy asked if it was "one of those Monaros from Australia"

Have had a fair few Aussies see it at the local cruise night too..guess since there seem to be alot who come over to this area to do car stuff, etc and check out the cruise night. That is cool seeing thier reaction too !

Finally got my rear calipers today! :D

I had that single 4 piston AMG Brembo above for the rear and have been on the look out for a matching other side to it. Got lucky today though and stumbled across a killer deal on a pair of them :) So will have a spare one it looks like, lol. Have to start on the mounting of them tomorrow...pics will follow of course.

Did your disc on the front fit the hubs without hitting the control arms ?

I had to machine the center bore of the rotors slightly to fit over the hubs, along with changing the bolt pattern, and it clears the arms, yep.

And worked on the rear today too... got the brackets made and calipers mounted up just fine :D

Here is a picture without the rotor to give you an idea of it all. I haven't played around with the brake hose yet, incase I need a different length banjo bolt and being Sunday, the place that sells them is closed so just left the old caliper still plumbed up (and it's sitting on the lower control arm)

I'll slide the rotor back on tomorrow and be good to go pretty much ! (short a couple of bolts for finishing up the other side, and will grab them tomorrow too)
