All done ! (besides bleeding them that is...kinda hot in the shed today so will leave that for a little bit, lol.

So for those following along, ha ha.. brakes are Mercedes SL55 AMG 360mm front rotors with 8 piston brembos and 330mm rear with 4 piston brembos. Overkill ? Sure, why not! :D

By the way, I used VHT caliper paint, really went on nicely I reckon.

Just put the car in gear...

I don't remember ever using the parking brake actually in any of my cars really over the years.

I did think about adding one for the heck of it though and if so, would just use one of the seperate small parking brake calipers you can get either aftermarket or some of the OE cars use as well. Be simple enough to make a bracket to mount it obviously..

All bled up and done ! Took it just for a quick run around just now and so far they are feeling great. They need to bed in the rest of the way I am sure...takes a little while to get a bit of heat in the brakes, even on a real hot day out like today, ha ha..

Hi Jeff
I don't post much but I must complement and thank you for an excellent informative thread. I regularly have square eyes from reading the wonderful contributions to the Torana Forum and yours is no exception.
Your family must be very special allowing you to devote so much time to flying the flag for our Mighty Little General.
(metaphorically speaking) I would kill to have a VB with you LS1 Hatch and Neil, Dattoman (your brother from another Mother) and resolve my front Big Brakes issue.

If you have the time I'm looking for an A,B,C solution to buy and fit, end of story. (not rich if you know what I mean HA! HA!)

Cheers AL

Thanks heaps Al....the Torana is a great little car and I've had a blast with it all through the years and love doing all the mods as they come to mind.
A cold VB sure would be nice by the way...quite warm here at the moment. Matter a fact, think I will give the weekly cruise-night a miss today too...was going to go, but too warm to sit out in the sun I reckon.

And wish I had a bigger shed, I could have a few fun projects that way !

What sort of drama are you having with your brakes ?

Thanks too Peter...I've flown the Oz flag in my cars for some time now, and can't imagine ever turning back !

Thanks Jeff for your response :clappin:
... no doubt about ya, you've even got the Oz Blood in ya ..... helpin' out a Mate!

Don't want to highjack your thread (I think they call it), so any chance you might have a pickie or two of the back of your front brakes to check out clearances lock to lock.

I'll start a new thread .... LH - LX Big Brakes .... if that's OK with you so that you may carry on the good work !!!!
From what I read I think a few others and I will benefit.

Cheers AL

I've used these several times. They work well, cheap and very simple if you need a park brake solution.

Seen those, thanks for that...along those lines is what I had thought of. My mate at the car dealership (mercedes, porsche, aston marin, etc, etc they sell) had taken some pics for me before of some various OE little calipers along those lines too.

Still haven't decided to bother with them as of just yet.

Still working on my shopping list for there though, have a few weeks to go before need to get things together, to get over here, ha ha.

:driving: I noticed in one of your pickies that you used Moog Ball Joints.
  • Would I be correct in saying that they were K5108 (upper) and K5103 (lower)?
  • Would you be using Moog for your Tie Rod Ends as well?
  • If so, what part number etc.
PS Thanks for your ongoing support Jeff.

Cheers AL

I don't remember the ball joint numbers off hand, but they are floating around the forum in general in a few places. When I had originally went to buy them, I had no idea about this forum or that people were using US ball joints at all, ha ha. I just noticed they looked the same as Camaro ones, did a bunch of measuring up and found they were the same so went with them.

On the tie rod ends, I looked and looked and was not able to find one over here that will work for the Torana unfortunately....I did try a bunch of different ones and looked over specs of a ton more while trying to find them. Not to say it's impossible but I wasn't able to source any here to work.

Oh, and a while back I had designed up some stickers for my calipers...the original ones had the AMG logo on them of course as you can see, but I wanted something with the "brembo" logo but something unique as well to go with the car. I figured out what I wanted and got a sticker guy to make them up for me. The only problem was he took a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time... I used a guy who I had used before for custom decals and he did great work and in a quick amount of time. This time around the work is still excellent but the time was just nuts.

Anyways...here is the standard Brembo logo used on thier calipers and such...

And my idea of course took that and just tweeked it a little bit to suit the car. Really happy with how they turned out as well. It's a real hot day here today and I couldn't be bothered putting the rest of them on, but since I got the stickers in the mail today I had to get at least one on! The rear ones will just be straight, since the calipers do not have the curve to them like the big front ones. The brembo logo was always straight, never curved so these really just stand out to me. It's the little details that help to make a project in my eyes..

So what do you think ?

I was actually just confirming that you had used the same as I did .... and my reason for asking about the Tie Rod ends is also the same as yours .... no can find!!!
You see I want to use nothing but "Moog", although most would say, "what the **** are they?".
They are in fact made by Federal Mogul of the U.S. of A. which for us Old School fellas is an excellent quality product that has been around since we were puppies.
I have looked at Summit Racing and have noticed thousands but which ????? ... meets the specifications.
Only your neighbourhood has heard of a Torana hahahaha , so what do you reckon about me sending one to Federal Mogul to see if they can find a match (Camaro/Torana ... ??? / Torana).

You get where I'm goin' ????

Jeff has spare teirod ends and has tried to get them from Moog
They don't have anything catalogued close enough
I've also tried both here and US... with one in my hand

The company I work for deals with 555 Japan... I'm trying to see what I can do with them

Rear is done now too..again, just like those little touches. Of course the car still needs paint and interior work, haha...but little steps at a time at least.

I don't know what I am more jealous of... Driving a Torana in the USA or In n Out for lunch. The perfect combination if you ask me.
