Simple 10 psi pulley upgrade will see the l67 shit all over the 304 upto around 100kmph. Can get modular hub and pulley for under 200 from the states awesome bang for buck

Well the rego is due sometime in september. Hopefully I can pull both my fists out of my bum and finish the LJ so i can take this one apart.

Sent it to the mechanics to get serviced while I was out of the country. Also had the belt tensioner replaced as it was getting noisy. The noise has returned on the tensioner, mechanic reckons that cause the car isnt running any power steering or a/c and is using a smaller belt, the tension is just too much for the tensioner.

I really want to run power steering and a/c. Im not sure if its better to run a factory ecotec a/c unit or a after market underdash one. Also toying with the idea of throwing a red 308 in their with a lpg set up.

I really have to stop thinking about this car and concentrate on the other first!

So the tensioner is getting louder and louder and is starting to annoy me. Does anyone have any pointers to fix it? As i said my mechanic thinks is from not running ps, ac and using a smaller belt.

Starting to consider throwing a 308 or 304 in, possibly with an LPG set up.

You can usually pick the seal off one side of the tensioner bearing and lubricate it, try something a bit more heavy duty if its got more load than usual and see what happens

Are you sure it's not the harmonic balancer? Common on that engine.

Honestly im not sure. Had my mechanic service it while i was overseas, told him to replace the tensioner. Noise stopped straight away but is gradually coming back. He said that the tensioner isnt sitting in the right postition due to the smaller belt. So i have only assumed that the problem is that.

Rego is due in september so ill get the car fully serviced when i put it in for renewal.

Bit of an update.

Rego is now out of date on the car which has given me an excuse to leave it off the road for a SHORT while. The old man wasnt impressed to hear that i now have 2 "project" cars.

Started looking into fitting a L67. While it should be a simple task of taking the old engine out and throwing a new one in, the price to purchase a L67 is quite expensive (well on Ebay anyway)and most are interstate. Havent checked out local wreckers yet. Going V8 might be cheaper and easier to source.

Also looking at fitting power windows, had a read of the tech article and seems pretty stright forward so im looking to find some commodore window bits. I have thought about looking for a donor car, but i dont want (and my old man doesnt) want another undriveable vehicle around.

Ive given myself 2 weeks to get it back on the road. I have a whole week off uni which i might dedicate to the car if the weather is good. I would love to give it a few body repairs and some paint, but we will just have to wait and see. The garage is full of other peoples shit so if they dont move it out there will be no painting.

The tasks i need to complete are:

Replace Harmonic Balancer
Replace Tensioner
Service
New Tyres
Replace park brake
Tidy up wiring
Fix drivers side window (power windows?)

I know you said u dont want a donor car but it's the cheapest option. I bought a vt Calais rollover write off for 2300, stripped the whole car and flogged everything off on eBay except the engine and wiring loom, not one panel was able to be sold due to damage. In the end I profited 200 bucks and was left over with the l67 and loom. Food for thought

Yeah i know its the best option. Maybe ill put the conversion off until summer when i have more time to do stuff.

I have started some work. Had big plans for this weekend with the recent glorious weather in Sydney this week, but as you would expect it has rained all day today, and looks the same for the next week. Really irritating as i have next week of uni and plan to get this car ready for rego.

Handbrake is still giving me grief, i just can seem to remove it or fix it. Hopefully give it anoth go this week and solve it. The front panels are off, no real reason i tokk them off except boredom. Started to tidy up some of the wiring too.

I fitted a new Belt tensioner, and decided to measure up to see how big the belt should be, and how big the current belt is. The size needed to cover all pulleys is 154cm, while the one on it is 145. Is this too small? How many cm should i take off the 154 to allow for enough tension?

I haven't been on this site for a while, however I have checked in periodically over the last 2 years or so. Time for a bit of an update.

As you may have seen in previous pics the wiring was an absolute mess, so a few months ago I got fed up and decided to rip everything out and do it all again. In hindsight I probably should have traced the wires before I removed the old loom as it would have saved me a heap of thinking, time and reduce some of the mess I'm creating removing tape etc. I have really knuckled down over the last week to get this car back on the road, there is plenty of information on the net about Holden EFI and/or V6 conversions. However the nature of my conversion meant that I needed to use information from all posts to work out how it should actually be wired.

The biggest problem with the conversion to this car is that there was no kit used, everything has been customised. On top of this half the commodore loom has been used and half the original loom has been used, which makes everything more confusing. The biggest hurdle I found was the conversion didn't use the commodore relay box, rather it just had 3 automotive relays, and a shitload of wires everywhere.

Anyway; connected in the new loom and set about working out what wires I need and what wires I can 'disregard'. I don't want to permanently remove these wires (just in case I need them in the future), but I want to trim and hide them at the ECU, rather than have them hanging around in the engine bay. After many hours reading and drawing wiring diagrams and tracing wires I have finally solved the engine wiring issue and got the car to fire up again.

As I have only dummied up the wiring, tomorrow I will be running and connecting wires in their final position. When I do this I will take pictures and post it up here in case anyone needs help or clarification on doing a similar conversion. This is probably not the best way to wire up a conversion like this, but it is probably the easiest, hence why it was probably done in this way. I still have to solve the ignition wiring. Although it all works, it is in a terrible state. There is a post on here about wiring a 304/any Holden with a Pink, Yellow, Brown etc. wire ignition, which seems to be correct as to how my ignition is wired.
