Candy looks great and all but good luck if you ever need to repair it. My work ute is candy metal flake blue and it's a fair pain, but not as bad as straight candy.

Spray Chief do a good range of candy in acrylic, and a lot cheaper than PPG too. Well, it used to be : )

Thanks Tim. I'll have a look.
What's the difference between urethane and enamels? I'm confused.

Ps. Cmon someone! Sneaky SLR needs a pic....... (and me too!)

I painted my big block XC Falcon in candy apple red years ago

Sorry no digital pics, its hard to match a black that goes with the vibrance of the candy and purely comes done to a personal preference

It had the GT style stripe down the bonnet, my painter wanted to go with a flat black, I wanted gloss black, thing was neither really matched

Candy coloured cars look great but totally unpracticle on a regulary driven vehicle, a bit of advice don't do it, leave it for motor cycle fuel tanks

Yeah from what a few people have told me it isnt the easiest thing to fix if you scratch it!

but its still an option :)

Yes Rob there are a fair few : )

Plus with every coat of candy the colour/depth changes. It does look very nice though.

My wife used to have a candy LH and the bonnet flew up on the bruce highway. Was a pain to fix.

yeah thanks i like these more than the xy they just seem to have more style.if you mean solid as in non metallic yes.but as you say depending on how it was painted it is a colour that is open to variation like silver and yellow.

When you paint a car in candy you have to put a silver or gold metallic base down first, then you put the candy on top.
Because the candy is transparent you could paint the hole car silver, do all the blackouts and then put the candy over everything.
I've always wanted to do that to a Torana but that's way to much work for me. :)

I actually painted mine gold first to deepen the colour as I thought with a silver base coat it was a little looked light in direct sunlight

Plus the painter wanted to put as few candy coats down as possible, I guess to lessen the chances of stuffing up the paint job

Where you overlap the paint on a panel it will show up as a darker colour in the sun light.... if that makes sense

Few painters in Cairns would even take on the job
